LOS ANGELES, Calif. — November 12, 2009 - GameTrailers.com (GT), the premier provider of video for gamers and a division of Viacom Inc.’s (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B) MTV Networks Entertainment Group and Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games today unveiled a new, interactive trailer for Resident Evil®: The Darkside Chronicles at http://www.gametrailers.com/video/experience-the-darkside/57808. The newest survival horror arcade shooter for the Wii™ system, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, will hit store shelves on November 17. The latest chapter in the acclaimed Resident Evil® franchise, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles sends the full cast of characters - Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jack Krauser, Steve Burnside and Chris Redfield - into a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred and the potential to go to the dark side lies within all of us.

In the interactive trailer exclusive to GameTrailers.com, the audience will be given the chance to be engaged in a totally new way by being able to participate in the trailer. This new immersive experience will let the audience watch and then begin to play the scenes by actually shooting the zombies with a click of their mouse. Using the reticule to shoot, the trailer will mimic the gameplay used in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles giving players a taste of the survival horror gameplay before it hits stores next week.

Gamers will be able to watch Leon and Claire fight their way through the zombie-infested city as the undead spill out of the video viewer, clawing and fighting their way towards the viewer across the page. As the action and horror culminates, players are instructed to hold off the enemy onslaught by shooting them with their cursor and the fun begins.

“Interactive trailers are a highly engaging form of marketing. By allowing gamers to both watch and interact with the gameplay footage, they get a more immersive and connected experience,” said Brad Winters, general manager of GameTrailers.com. “We are happy to have partnered with Capcom to offer our community the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles interactive trailer. We can’t wait to see zombies spill out of our site and into gamers’ homes.”

“Good marketing should always strive to engage users in new and unique ways,” said Mona Hamilton, Vice President of Marketing, Capcom . “For Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, our goal has been to emulate the actual game experience online, and the interactive trailer is Capcom’s way of providing fans an innovative and accessible way to get a taste of the gameplay before the full game is available on November 17th.”

The next chapter in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles retraces the steps of Leon S. Kennedy, Steve Burnside and Claire Redfield through the terrifying ordeals of Resident Evil® 2 and Resident Evil® Code: Veronica, but this time from an all-new perspective. A vibrant new South America part of the story pairs Jack Krauser with Leon S. Kennedy as they hunt down Javier Hidalgo, a drug lord connected to the Umbrella Corporation. A keen eye and a quick trigger finger are a must to stop the undead onslaught. The events that unfold will recall a dark journey into the past where the betrayals and horrors come full circle. Can memories of the past help stop the biological terror that has resurfaced to threaten the future of humankind again?

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will be available for purchase on November 17th for the WiiÔ system. It is rated M by the ESRB. For more information and press assets, please visit: http://www.press.capcom.com

Overkill came out in Feb didn't it?

I don't think we are flooded either but I -know- I will LOVE this game!

I am sure I will prefer it to Extraction.

Gah your right. I thought HotD was last year. So there's 3.
Probably some shovelware ones, but we won't count those obviously. lol

This trailer genuinely got me excited about the game. I don't know why this isn't used more often. How expensive can it be?

@spiracy

Yeah...one is description of what it is (on-rails shooter) while the other is a catch-phrase used by developers to try to make people think the game is something other than an on-rails shooter. One is propaganda, the other is an accurate description.

@Hami83

More then you would think. A lot of people think it is cheap to localize a game when it cost over a mill or two or more if there are some licenses and a lot of languages to translate into.

Welcome to forever ago.

@Jet Pilot

In reality, Dead Space itself is on a rail, but you can choose to get off of it.

And at least DSE does something different with the genre, a little.

@tootiredtothink

He's talking about making a trailer interactive like that. Has nothing to do with what you said.

@WiiLikeSportz

This. We only had 3 and people are acting like we got too many.

Meanwhile, the other consoles got multiple shooters (even, I believe, two Halos this year). 3 rail shooters over the span of 10 months is not a lot.

Especially considering:

1 is House of the Dead, a series that's ALWAYS been on-rails, and always had fans.

1 is a prequel that, even though on rails, tries to do new things in a basically dead, and stale genre.

1 is a sequel to another on-rails game, but fixes everything that sucked about the original and actually has amazing graphics.

I don't know how people can be disappointed about Darkside, really, other than not liking the shaky cam thing.

Everything about Darkside is a million times better than Umbrella.

@MoldyClay

And Umbrella was one of my fav Wii titles, if not just because my GF actually played all the way through it with me!

:) I hope the shaky cam doesn't make me sick, is all. I don't think it will.

I like how you took the idiot's route and completely ignore how original the trailer is.

Wario Land Shake it was cool, but this outperforms that much more.

damn. you are right, though the trailer is pretty badass. I couldn't shoot the one zombie on the netbook i was on so i moved to the PC. the result was pretty cool. I have to give it to capcom's marketing.

@Jet Pilot

are you saying its not possible to invent new genres?

so i suppose all those "interactive movies" at places like disneyland are just multimillion dollar on rails shooters renamed for propaganda purposes?

come the f**k on

@WiiLikeSportz

I think the shaky cam toned down from previous showings and I HOPE they follow EA's concept of changing how shaky it gets.

I actually haven't finished Umbrella Chronicles, because:

1. I had to play the whole game by myself.
2. I haven't played in a year.
3. My girlfriend is too afraid to play.

Keep in mind, not afraid because of being scared. Afraid because she doesn't want to suck, lol.

I liked Umbrella Chronicles for what it was.

The only thing I hate about that game is that it literally RUINED Resident Evil 3. And there's no Barry. Rebecca gets a whole, extra, unnecessary chapter, and Barry is only a File in the game. D:

That and the hit boxes are depressing. So many times that I'm just plugging away at a zombie, getting nowhere. Other times, I shoot a crapton in the head and just swiftly move past them.

by yourself? man, you need to learn to hit the sweet spot or lessen the dificulty, lol, i guess youll hate playing wesker in the final chapter, cause you usually have to fight the final boss with just your default pistol (took me 2 hours on the second hardest difficulty, but i some how actually beat the whole boss with that pistol and what ammo was in the room)

but barry? i LOVE barry
******HUGE SPOILERS IF YOU SOMEHOW NEVER FINISHED RE1 SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT FINISHING IT IF YOU DIDNT, ANYWAYS, SPOILERS:but you cant make a whole chapter of a rails shooter based on him being a traitor, lol, he didnt even really even get to fight anything till the end of the game (if you give him his gun) END OF THE NOT REALLY SPOILERS, BUT YOU KNOW HOW IT IS, SOMEBODY IS ALWAYS SITTING ON THEIR COPY, AND WONT FINISH*******

but yea...
