“At Resident Evil 5’s launch, it was announced that a Wii version was not technically possible. But after some of the work that Cavia has done (with RE: Darkside Chronicles), the producers of Resident Evil 5 over in Japan now think it is possible. Some of the light effects in the South America stage are pretty incredible. Whether it is going to come, I don’t know the answer to that question. But, it has been said that now at least it is possible.” - Product manager Matt Dahlgren
That sounds like a really positive statement to me. In my mind, there was never any reason as to why Resident Evil 5 couldn't work on Wii. Just bring the graphics down a bit, and you're set. Capcom sure has come a long way with the possibilities of an RE5 port to Wii. Remember when they said that Wii couldn't even handle the RE5 title screen?

I'm playing the Assassin Creed PSP game, and they did a wonderful job recreating the 360/PS3/PC game on the PSP while keeping an open world feel (albeit, more restrictive and more loading times). This is just one of the game experiences that 3rd parties claimed was 'impossible' on the Wii, but somehow are possible on the PSP. It's further proof that they just don't want to develop worthwhile games for the system, yet cry when their inferior Wii 'support' doesn't sell a million.
I'm content with RE4:W, RE:UC and the upcoming Darkside Chronicles as far as the RE franchise goes on Wii. I'd rather have another new RE title than a port of RE5, tbh.
Here's another example: During several shows over about 2 years Sony showed off Little Big Planet and there was always statement in their lines somewhere that went "This is only possible on PS3" (they meant the Wii can't handle the engine or whatever).
But lookie now, what's this? Oh yes, a PSP version.
We should be used to this by now.
Either way, I wouldn't buy it again on account that it's a broken, crappy mess of a game. Biggest disappointment of 09 for me hands down.
ports = fail on wii. just in case you haven't got that figured out yet
I played RE5 on the other systems and I was not impressed with the controls...there was nothing special about the controls over the PS2/GC RE4. Since the Wii version of RE4 is considered the definitive version as far as controls, I'm sure people will welcome that in RE5 Wii. I just hope it won't be a 2yr wait like with Modern Warfare.
By the way, the RE5 grafix are not that great for a corridor based game.
RE:DC has a great engine, why not use it in 3rd person action-adventure?

With VERY few exceptions, ANY game is possible on Wii. Is the port going to be "downgraded", sure. Of course. That's just technology speaking. But, a GOOD developer can find the best ways to use Wii's hardware, and still make the game shine (both figuratively and literally).
And with RE4 Wii's controls, RE5 would likely sell over a million on Wii, easy. So, A) Capcom hates money, and B) they're just damned lazy.
we spend good money on them for them to just lie to us!!!
This gen is a sad gen because we are told what can't be done instead of what could be done.
Think of what we could of had, But instead they milked us like cows, lied to us and tricked us in buying consoles that stop running just so we have to buy up anouther one so they can double their profits.
Many of you should be raging!!!
but are you??
RE5 was a good game on the PS3/360/PC. But I don't want it on Wii. Give us an original, made-for-Wii title. Maybe RE6 or some other spin-off with "traditional" RE gameplay.
The question would be, is it worth buying if Capcom couldn't get split-screen multiplayer on the Wii? (as the game is terrible single player)
Yes sir I remember that "can't handle the title screen line"....its sticks out in my mind like a fork in tea cup with tea in it, turned upside down.
Anyone with a brain knows the game can run on Wii.(better from the ground up and not having to skip anything)
I had a long right up but I deleted that wall of text.
EDIT....
It can. Do it. So I can continue where I left of in RE4.
Those who don't want it? You are stupid. Wii needs this support.
These type of games shouldn't be tucked away from the Wii?
The fact that it wasn't that taxing on capcom dev team..they PORTED RE4 with barely any improvements not they were necessary) and yeah they have the RE spinoff series going on Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles)(but that is no excuse to say oh...Wii gamers get THAT game because we have made those spinoffs and that RE4 port..so much ...well still...no RE5?
I hope that isn't the way you see it Capcom. That way what you are doing is alienating the same gamecube audience of years past.(Yes some people are Wii only)
Basically your TELLING them you HAVE TO(demanding much, mandatory?) buy another system besides your own JUST to play this game? (not me, no way..have you seen RE4 Wii...do you see how much fun wii motion controls brought to a relatively old game from gamecube..ha..need I say more))
Also by what alot of gamers say...they didn't even like RE5 that much or at all(look at some comments above...and er I have seen such comments before too)
So much for HD RE eh?
But nah don't bring it to the Wi...it won't sell...it can sell now its kind of too late..(i still want it though, cant speak for other *ahem* gamers)
Do it at the same time like with the other platforms, put in the same amount of man work like you do with the games on the other platforms and dont dumb it down, and release it at the same time as the other games.
We dont wanna wait 1+ years for a watered down version of a game that's been out for so long
Those of you who are saying you don't want an RE5 Wii Port because you already have RE5 for the 360/PS3, a Wii version wouldn't be aimed at you. It would be for everyone without a 360/PS3 who wants to play the game.
Food for thought.
Yes!!! me too.
And, Sgt Scyther:
RE5 is a just a copy/paste for RE4, nothing new, so if you have the RE4 there is not need for RE5 in wii.
Rather I would prefer for Sega to made a port of "Condemned: Bloodshot"; a horror game with "Punch-Out" integrated.
It just might be a totally different experience. Graphics are only part of the equation though.
Just make a brand new, original RE game instead.
I played RE5 first and then Dead Space and I must say that I found Dead Space's controls to be superior.
(oh yeah and I'd like to add that unlike other people here I'm someone who actually liked RE5, even though it really is a shooter/action game and not a horror game [at least RE4 still retained a horror atmosphere despite the new action gameplay; RE5 seemed to just lose any horror aspects somewhere along the lines of development]).
I agree. RE5 wasn't a very good entry in the series... Just gimme a new title any day. In fact, I wish that they had just released the chronicles series as intended: RE4 style chapters.
- @Sgt Scyther This.
- @Devil_Rising This.
Fact is:
- That's great you don't like RE5. You're not everyone. I loved RE5.
- That's great that you played it already, most Wii owners have not. RE4 Wii Edition gave Capcom lots of money, so why ignore a larger audience?
- Some people may prefer RE5 Wii Edition alone for the aiming.
- While old now, it'd be the perfect time to make the port while RE5 is getting the extras added for the PS360 and using motion controls.
- RE5 is like the 2nd most selling RE right now, I think. So why you think it would bomb is beyond me. All of you bitter, butthurt Wii owners who are clearly not huge RE fans to begin with seem to think you're part of some majority or something. If this were true, I'd feel afraid for modern gaming.
Agreed. I'm not buying it (unless it has the extras like the new scenario), but unlike everyone else here, I don't see why people who HAVEN'T played should miss out.
Leave your opinion on the game at the door. This isn't for you.
Just take a step back, Capcom. RE4 worked didn't it?
Besides that, I worry that the almost mandatory co-op play will ruin the experience. The partner AI was crap on PS3/360, and I doubt it will improve on Wii. Without a robust online mode, this game would move from partial to complete failure... and I'm not confident that Wii's online is up to the task.
A new RE game would interest me. RE5 port, not so much.
I still don't see why people who already played/didn't like RE5 think that this game is for you.
It's for people who:
- Didn't play it, because they only own a Wii
- Didn't play it, because RE4 Wii spoiled them with Wii controls.
- Liked the game, but would like to use motion controls, and don't want to use Sony's lame-ass wand.
Also, am I the only person who just handed Sheva the cattle prod and pretended she wasn't in the game? I had no problem and I never played the game in co-op and I still liked it.
Not going to drag this out, but:
- RE4 = Fear? Maybe Regenerators, but that's like saying OoT was scary because of ReDeads.
- I honestly hate Chris, in every RE game.
This is possibly the only time Chris didn't seem as retarded to me, despite looking like a pile of watermelons with a head.

Anyways, wow. Looks like Capcom has a change of heart!
If Activision can port Modern Warefare to the Wii with downgraded graphics, then Capcom can surely downgrade Resident Evil 5 for the Wii.
