Last week, we reported that FFCC: The Crystal Bearers managed to sell 26,000 units in its first day on the market. Not exactly amazing numbers. The total amount of the first shipment was 75,000, and this week we should see what The Crystal Bearers managed to do in its first 7 days. For now, let's take a look at the first-day sales in Japan for other FFCC titles.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates (DS): 123,000
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time (DS): 62,000
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time (Wii): 14,000

Why the low numbers for FFCC: The Crystal Bearers? Does it have to do with the type of game it is? Do Japanese gamers have no interest in Wii installments for the series? Will the title end up kicking butt in North America and Europe?

Maybe Japanese gamers are getting bored of generic Squeenix JRPGs? Oh wait that'll never happen.

@Shovelware

Thats the thing.. FFCC isnt a generic JRPG its action based unlike the main FF games, and Japanese gamers really really REALLY love their turn based games.

Will we ever stop freaking out over short term sales numbers?

@joedick

Nope. That's all these people care about anymore.

Not enjoying games, knowing that they sold well.

@Deitylink101

Recent polls showed that they like Action RPGs just as much as Turn-based RPGs. :P

low sales or not it's easy to see that this didn't meet expectations

love or hate the japanese market, the same thing happens here (The Conduit, Dead Space, Madworld)

I think its partly due to the title being released too close to FFXIII in a couple of weeks, and the Famitsu score

Famitsu score sank this and FF13's release in a month killed the hype for it IMHO.

Yes. This is what happens when you don't listen to the fans (which would be the Crystal Chronicles ones, who wanted a simple multiplayer game with character customization). Square-Enix better not complain about piss poor sales, because they brought this on themselves.

@Shovelware

Of course it won't. That's like American gamers getting tired of first person shooters. /sarcasm(slightlylol)

@MrBubbles

For me, yeah it did. I was going to buy this game, but I seriously expected better rankings. But then again, I enjoyed other games with average rankings.

Actually Crystal Bearers forgot Poland.

Kidding. First-day sales don't exactly guarantee failure. However Squenix needs to understand the Wii deserves more than just more Crystal Chronicles games and VC rehashes.

Oh, and before anyone asks, there is NO secret contract with Sony.

Because the obvious hasn't already been pointed out...

Handhelds >>>> Consoles in Japan. For what it's worth, I would expect reasonably higher sales in America.

I have to say that the game is really nice, but the graphics are not what I expected. The colors are way too bright, some character models look awsome, with shiny textures, but the models are way to edgy. Still a nice game, but not what Final Fantasy fans would expect.

Japanese people spend more time outside of their homes this days, they care more for handhelds than consoles.

The spent about 3 hours on a train (average) and only like 2 hours on home, and only to eat, take a bath and sleep, maybe study and do homework and thats it.

I know, cuz i have a few japanese friends and also my best friend sister married a japanese guy.

they care more for handhelds, no won ds version of echoes of time sold more than wii, given they are the same thing (sadly, its true. I still cant understand why they didnt went with better graphics on wii version).

Pretty sure Crystal Bearer will do better over here than over there. They have a solid sell with me
