"It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise. So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version. I hope that we can show you something at the E3 show next year and it is something we are hopeful will be surprising." - Eiji Aonuma

Oh man, don't start hyping up E3 2010 now! It's so far away! I'm already jumping out of my skin to see what Zelda Wii looks like. Now that wait is going to be even harder! Thanks to Robert and Kankki for the heads up.

Probably means that it won't be like "go to three dungeons, get Master Sword, go to 6 more dungeons, collect crystals/medallions/whatever, go to Ganon, beat him, day is saved." Maybe it'll be something like you start out with the Master Sword immediately? We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

I would like to see someting in the like of Oblivion, not linear with an open world edge that don't tell you what to do next. A game were you don't need the boomerang of dungeon 2 to complet dungeon 3. Enough of the same rearsh (?) structures.

You could be right considering the concept art has that mastersword person, plus motion plus would benefit sword fighting the most so they would want a lot of the sword instead of a little of it.

Wait a minute Twilight Princess came out in 06 and this one will probably come out in 2011. THATS 5 f*** YEARS! This better be the best Zelda ever made, better than Ocarina, Majora, Twilight, A link to the past, Wind Waker combined. For this long of a wait.

I remember the last time Zelda was changed considerably... it was with Windwaker. Oh, wait... crap.

I kid. I love it that the series is getting some fresh air! :)

@Eternal Rain

I totally agree. That was my first thought too.

And if you really have the Master Sword from the start, it means you're basically cutting the set-up and getting on the action right from the beginning, much like the original NES Zelda. Could be. :P

Oh, and guys... I wouldn't hold my breath for E3 2010. I would like it more if the game was shown when it was nearest to completion, evading a "TP Effect". :|

Oh so you get the bombs first, eh?

I joke... but seriously, I hope this is a genuine statement as opposed to the usual phrase that sounds really good when said in an interview, but ends up being the same old thing we've always had and Aonuma and Miyamoto just shrug their shoulders as if we're the ones too dumb to notice the difference. It's like someone telling you that Batman is hanging out in his basement, you go down all excitedly only to find no one, but they keep pointing at the furnace screaming "OMG! SHOW ME HOW THE BATMOBILE WORKS!"

Aonuma is just most likely comparing the structure of Twilight Princess on the Wii with this new Zelda Wii title.

Good to know that Nintendo acklowedged that Zelda is in need of some change and they've done something about it.That alone with MotionPlus support has me even more excited.

E3 2010 is going to take place on July 15-17th. It sounds like the game will come out at possibly the end of 2010 at the earliest in my opinion.

How about a game where genders can swap on the fly. A female Link and Ganon. A Prince Zelda. A doungeon that's really a giant penis turned to stone. I'd buy that game if you could look at the doungeon from the sky. How about a game where Link can fly? Maybe he could ride on a dragon. How about a Zelda with a dedicated jump button? What about Magitechnology? That could be fun. How about Zelda being a black princess like the chick from the latest Disney flick. How about a search for Insectopia? Maybe Link's boyfriend breaks his heart and he embarks on a quest for a ppotion that will make him straight, but instead turns him into an ugly woman, and he has to escape Ganon and make it to paradise before Ganon tries to impregnate Link with a demon baby who will explode in the womb. I have good ideas.

Glad to hear they're attempting something different. TP was a good game but it didn't evolve the franchise much [even if the spinner was an awesome, underused item].

I hope this new direction, personally, also includes a Ganon no-show this time too. Would like to see someone new, but not shown up [like Zant]! :-)

Still love that Project Deluge approach, though...

What I posted from the other related thread:

I am ready to revisit what made me care about the inhabitants of Hyrule - Majora's Mask. Please bring back the bomber's notebook or something that will draw me into their lives.

I don't want an "alternate world" mechanic, but I would love a time travel mechanic that actually had real consequences on past-present-future.

Ultimate Zelda game = OoT + MM = win!

I hope to God that they get closer to Zelda 1's set-up. You get the sword immediately, you can go anywhere, there are tons of enemies to fight and tons of secrets to stumble upon, and you can go through the game in whatever order and pacing you like.

I'm just happy that they're finally breaking the formula for 3D Zelda. It's been getting *really* old.

"Twilight Princess was beautiful, it just came out too late and played the safe card."

It was probably only because everyone b**** about Wind Waker's graphical style and sailing.

Personally I think they're all wonderful games. I've never seen a Zelda dud on a Nintendo system. They don't exist.

But breaking from the formula is a good way to go. More innovation I say.

I have a great picture of it in my head [well, it does to me at least], which I wish I had time to illustrate [but I don't, being on a graphics design placement, lol]. Most original idea I've heard for Zelda, so yeah... just good stuff dude. :-)

Nintendo could unveil WiiMusic 2, WiiPlay 2, WiiFit PlusPlus, and Vitality Sensor: Hospital Simulator next E3 for all I care... all it takes is the unveiling of a Zelda game to crown them the winner. Seriously.

I think Nintendo is going to DOMINATE next year... Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Zelda Wii. HOLY CRAP!

You sir, fail miserably.

Zelda 2 was an absolute classic, and was daring for it's time. You're likely one of the people clamoring for Zelda to be "different", and yet you probably condemn Zelda 2 for being just that, different than Zelda 1 or A Link to the Past.

And Twilight Princess, worst console Zelda? You may not like it as much as, I'm gonna take a stab in the dark, Wind Waker. But that's YOUR opinion. To say it's the worst console Zelda, seriously smacks of bitter fanboyism. Ocarina of Time is viewed by most gamers as a true classic, legendary game. Twilight Princess takes everything that game did, does it WAY BETTER, and manages to add a lot to an already amazing formula. Twilight Princess basically perfected the Ocarina 3D Zelda formula. The only way Wind Waker was "different", aside from graphics, was that you sailed. A lot.

Twilight Princess is a classic in it's own right, and certainly the best 3D Zelda Nintendo has made, in MY opinion.

So if they want to try some new things, fine, so long as they don't completely f**k up what makes Zelda ZELDA while doing so (see Mario Sunshine, Star Fox Assault).

oh no ! now it's jinxed!!
so the next three titles line up next year will be mario galaxy2-vitaly sensor-zelda wii with other m as the usual august september metroid release.
I hope mario galaxy2 is still on track for may june, it might sell more on october close to the vitality sensor .

That's great after smash brawl-wii fit-mariokart and wsr-wf+-nsmbwii . Although i would prefer if they add something like wii sport winter resort or something else with motion+.

Obviously the vitality sensor might be a dud , but it doesn't really matter because as of right now nintendo still think it's up to the two previous three-hit games.
