This could work in NA if they got better stuff to watch. But knowing Nintendo of America we will never get this. Because people there don't know how to do work.
Just downloaded the update here (at 3:30am) and ran through it quickly.
@ Game_Locks Yes, you can watch the videos/movies in full screen. I believe the small screen where you can see the Miis sitting on the couch is only for previews, and even then you can click on the "movie screen" to enlarge to full screen.
Right now there are 100 selections in the rental shop, but it is almost entirely kids fare (anime, Sesame Street, English lesson programs, etc.), with a few sports compilations as well.
I watched the trailer for Gran Torino (I think the movie itself isn't available yet). I had actually rented and watched this movie on the other movie rental service on the Wii in Japan, and was somewhat impressed with the quality of the image (SD of course) and very impressed with the streaming quality (started immediately, no delays or hiccups). However, the trailer for Gran Torino in Theater no Ma seemed to have a worse picture quality than what I remember from the other service. I hope this isn't an issue once they get the theatrical movies actually available for rent.
