November 20, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: Nintendo in general

Wow...talk about a shocker. I'm posting up her entire 'goodbye' which comes in as an IGN Minute piece...

I know how your readers like me to reveal news and surprises in my Nintendo Minutes, and I'd say that today definitely qualifies as my latest surprise.

It's a fact of life that job and family often pull us in opposite directions. As regular readers of this feature know, this has proved particularly challenging for me, as I've spent the last two years commuting almost constantly between San Francisco, Seattle, New York and my home in New England. It has been a fantastic adventure, but the time has come where I need to choose one over the other … and I have to choose my family.

So, as a result, this will be the final "Minute" that I spend with you all, and my last day with Nintendo of America.

During my time at Nintendo I have developed friendships with so many wonderful people, from my co-workers to people I have interacted with along the way, including reporters, bloggers and video game fans like all of you. Those memories simply can't be replaced, and I will take them with me. What I leave behind is a great team that will continue to tell the story of Nintendo's pipeline of wonderful products.

There are hundreds of people I hope I will run across again – and trust that I will. So instead of considering this "game over," I look at my choice as really just finishing one level … and moving on to the next.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to answer your questions and talk so directly with Nintendo's fans. For now, my "Minute" is up.

No word on who is going to be taking Denise's spot at the moment, but I know that it will not be a position easily filled.

It's no secret round these parts that I really loved Denise, as she was a very down-to-earth person. She helped us out such a great deal in so many ways. I wish the best to Denise, and I hope that some day we get to bump into each other once again. Thanks to all that sent this in.

UPDATE - Nintendo has issued this statement...

"Denise Kaigler has been a valuable part of the Nintendo of America team for the last two years. She’s made a personal decision to spend more time with her family in New England. We wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life, and we look forward to continuing to deliver great Nintendo experiences to people of all ages as we head into this holiday season".

This a shocker. I wonder why she had to leave? I bet it was something else. Well Denise, it seems lots of people hated you, but I didn't. You'll have a special place in my heart. Like the time at E3 when you sucked at NSMB Wii.

I wish her the best though! :)

I hope I don't come off sounding rude but since she's not a dev like Miyamoto, Aonuma, or Sakamoto I don't really feel very concerned. It is oddly nice to know that she left because of family reasons, and not because Nintendo's cutting losses.

Once again, I apologize if the above sounded rude. She was one of the better PR people from NoA so I do hope she finds a nice job to help support her family, and that whoever replaces her is also good at PR.

Oh, WTF.

I just had a fine day/night in the city, and now I come home to this news. :( Aw man...she was so awesome. Every bit as cool as Perrin Kaplan and George Harrison if you ask me. Still, I can't blame her. I can understand the demands of the job and the need to support her family...I'm pretty sure her family doesn't constantly whine about everything she tries to talk about! I just hope they find someone good to fill her shoes. Another "Nintendo Minute" kind of person. A pretty cool guy/gal who gives us insight and doesn't afraid of anything.

This is sad, but, I'm sure her family is happy she has chosen them over a job. There are lots of people who would not make that decision.

That said, lets bring back Perrin!!!! Ms Kaplan rocked as a voice to the Nintendo audience and personally, I miss her a ton.

f*** IGN readers scared her away. Bunch of a******.

Have you ever read the comments section of those Nintendo Minutes? It's horrible! Those people are ruthless. And the sad part is that they're doing it even in this departure minute (and Matt preemptively asked them not to!).

@Jet Pilot

Actually that guy would do too good a job.even better than Reggie? LoL)

He would have the revised DS peeping out his pocket..someone would point it out and he would say NO NO NO there is no new Nintendo DS. LOL

I mean damn during that war...during the defeat this guy STILL kept up saddam and simply would not admit defeat...lol

I found him hilarious(I know it was a serious situation but the way he just would not admit defeat even in the face of it..I seriously burst out laughing when he kept denying defeat on the news)

...its almost like he would stand infont of you and drink a glass of water. Then you would say...I see you are drinking a nice glass of water...to which he would reply...no no I am not drinking water, thee is no glass of water I am telling you..I have nothing.

LOL Chemical Ali? that his name right?

But anyway funnies aside...aonther leaves the Nintendo Ship (anyone remember another lady that left Nintendo in recent years? Perin Kaplin?).

Anyway Good luck Denise with w/e you endeavor!

Best of luck to her. I hate to see the good ones go, the ones that can connect with fans as much as she can. In the video game world, connecting with consumers is a lot more difficult than in other aspects. In movies you don't talk to fans much- you do what you do and try to keep the public happy. You do the same with any food product out there.

With video games, there's a fan base. Sure, you have it with certain franchises in film (Star Wars/Trek come to mind) that connect with fans. But video games- that's got to be the hardest one to connect to- besides Miley Cyrus fans...

Best of luck to her, and Nintendo as well for finding someone to replace her. (Which uh hey, if you want someone connected to the community give me a call)

well obviously Denise is no Miyamoto, but it sucks because she was one of nintendo's better personalities and her leaving was really sudden and I dont think Denise has been with nintendo for very long. we were just starting to get used to her and she leaves.

but now that you mention it, I'm getting scared for when the day Miyamoto calls it quits...

I see how it is: Rather than confirm a new Kid Icarus, she'd rather quit her job and head to the other side of the country. THAT'S loyalty!

Seriously though, I don't envy her position. She probably did want to share some news with people, but was probably shackled by so much Nintendo secrecy and official speak. She seemed like a nice enough person.

Well, time to brainwash the new replacement.

The day I feel sad about anyone from a PR department leaving a company has yet to come. The skills they supply are only of importance to their employer and even if they are charismatic and know how to keep the customers mostly happy with pre-written speeches that mostly follow the same pattern, they really are just a face on the wall between customers and company.

It is a necessary job in big companies, but it has no influence on the quality of product at all.
