Nintendo is a very odd company. For example, let's take some news that just turned up a second ago. The Big N has confirmed that, after years of waiting, Super Mario Kart is going to be available on the Virtual Console this coming Monday. On top of that, they've also confirmed Pilotwings and Super Smash Bros. for release during this holiday season. Why now, Nintendo...why make us wait so long, and then randomly dump these games on us?! Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy. I just don't get the way you work! Thanks to Ilikebacon and KingBroly for the heads up!

Mode 7 is a killer.
Bit. Trip VOID and Super Mario Kart on the same day! Never played SMK before.
Can't wait for SSB too! Never played that one either. These 3 are must haves to me!
Dunno about pilotwings. I never played that one either, I've heard only good things about it but I dunno if I would enjoy it.
"Where's Star Fox? WHERES STAR FOX?! RELEASE STAR FOX! Ah I can't think about this any more. Do music. DO MUSIC!"
Great to have an official confirmation though that we'll be getting them before the end of 2009. Europe's had Smash Bros. and Pilotwings for a good while now so obviously this is something of a big deal for us in NA. Out of all of them, though, I'm only getting Pilotwings for now. I never owned Super Mario Kart, but I do have nostalgia that stems from playing the game at my cousin's. I'll have to give it some thought. I still own my original Smash Bros. cart so I don't need to download the VC version.
Now when do we get Star Fox and Yoshi's Story?
LOL! damn Podcast are great.
where are you!!
I've been waiting forever for Super Mario Kart!
Malstrom will be pleased.
This is way awesome news though. With this, Nintendo will have nearly the entire core of its back library available for download. After this, the only conspicuous absences will be Star Fox and Yoshi's Island (and EarthBound, but we all know the circumstances around that).
I do believe I'll go ahead and download all three. Man...I should ask for some Nintendo points cards for Christmas.
*deletes SMK ROM*
Anyway, I wonder if this is the surprise NP mentioned.
-Super mario kart
-Castlevania rebirth
-Cave story
Since I missed SNES era!
Wow Nintendo you sure took your time..and whee are the other big classics!
Bring them!
The SNES Pilotwings blows away the far inferior N64 version. Also, Super Mario Kart is fantastic.
Cause the lead angel is playing a b****' sax solo right now.
SUPAHH SMAAAAAAASSSHHHH BROOTHERSSS
The Big N wants to research and analyze what happens to the Wii Shop Channel when they throw down their top dogs. It's probably a way to test and also drive new Visitors to the channel. Just know that NCL is going to be doing some serious number crunching here.
-now back to some New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Smash was my most wanted and I'm grateful it's finally coming out.
I might check out pilotwings though.
They were sitting on this just for surge of moneys; now that they saw that they didn't do so well and since ppl are going to buy Wiis this winter, why not couple it with some retro games? Oh, Nintendo.... I love you but stop allowing such crappy games on the damn machine.
Can we please have Yoshi's Island, and maybe some more N64 games, and that includes 3rd party ones FFS?!
Where the hell have you been, Yoshi's Story has been out for almost 2 years.
It is very easy to get Yoshi's Story and Yoshi's Island muddled up.
As for SMK...no way. I predicted this as last Monday...(you know NSMBW and Mario on VC but at the time of the prediction I had forgotten about Metroid Month being before MP3)
If Nintendo had "blown it's load", releasing ALL their classic hits for VC within the first year of the system's release, then you people would be whining that there wasn't anything GOOD to look forward to. I think the way they've handled VC has been just fine, and these games will be perfectly welcome additions.
No other console offers ELEVEN consoles' libraries of games all in one. That's NES, SNES, N64, Commadore 64, TG 16, Master System, Genesis, Neo Geo, and Arcade, PLUS GC compatibility and the Wii library. Plus MSX even, if you live in Japan. NO other console offers that. And while certainly the console entries for some systems so far are thinner than others, we're talking about literally THOUSANDS of titles to choose from. And I think they've done a pretty good job handling it.
Add to that, WiiWare, which also happens to have, in this man's opinion, the best NEW DLC games available on the market, and that's one swell deal. Plus, VC and WiiWare actually update EVERY WEEK with new content. To my knowledge, neither XBLA or PSN do that, not every week. And yet, people still find something to complain about.
I mean goddamn people, the VC service has some of the finest games ever created, all there at your discretion on ONE console, if you so choose. And more games, like these announced, are coming every single week. And I find the fact that people actually take the time to b**** in a given week when Nintendo hasn't given them something they "wanted", even though they got something awesome the week prior, or have something awesome coming the following week....nope, DAMN NINTENDO for not having something they wanted THAT week as well. lol...as if they have that kind of cash.
Whatever. I'm happy with it. That's all that matters to me.
Did I say Story?.. I meant YOSHI'S ISLAND of course.
I probally can think of more but if anyone of these came to vc it'd be cool.
*It may be really easy, but I still like it.
Finally, my Mario Kart Collection will be complete! Now, here's the real question: how good is that game today? Has it stood the test of time? I don't really know, as I haven't played it in quite a while...
I'll find out soon enough. As for SSB64 I feel like I ought to own it on VC but know I won't get $10 of play value from it because I'd rather play Brawl, which is a better game in every imaginable way...
Once I get a Wii, I am going to download all the Super Mario Bros. games, the Donkey Kong Country games, all the Genesis Sonic games, and I don't know what else.
Where is DK64?
Well said. At least someone has some sense here. Just letting you know, XBLA and PSN do get new games every week btw. I wonder what people will be complaining for after Star Fox and Yoshi's Island are released(LOL SMK, PilotWings, SSB64 aren't out and people are already whining for other games). >_>
Its funny, I just saw PilotWings at Goodwill this week, but didn't get it since I have no SNES. And lo and behold, it is coming to VC soon.
@tendoboy1984
DK64, made by Rare, published by Nintendo.
It ain't coming to VC anytime soon.
DKC TRILOGY SAYS Hi.
I am working on a new Site layout for my website at the moment.
If i am complaining then it is the fact that Gamespot said that Super Mario Kart is coming Monday.I want real proof so maybe i could e-mail Nintendo and ask them myself.
Nintendo owns donkey kong, not rare. This is like saying that zelda minsh cap will never be ported because capcom developed it.
my remaining personal requests:
- starfox (snes)
- earthbound (snes)
- glover (64)
- wipeout 64
RARE never owned the Donkey Kong IP in the first place. Miyamoto created DK in 1981 and Nintendo's owned the IP ever since. Besides, by that logic you're saying the Donkey Kong Country trilogy should have never come to the VC because RARE developed those three games. Well check the SNES section next time you're on the Shop Channel and you'll see all three (they came out in 2007).
I'm pretty sure I'll pick up ol' Pilotwings too, though I'm not sure what to expect from it cuz of never really heard of it that much believe it or not.
May as well say that I'm also waiting for EarthBound and Mischief Makers to make their way on the VC, but I'm happy with these big 3 for now.

Rare could at least release golden eye/perfect dark on another download service like they did the bango games...
Well it is Monday now so at least we can hopefully put this Super Mario Kart Rumor to rest very soon.Afterall why would Nintendo tell Gamespot of all places when or if Super Mario Kart is coming without posting it on their own website's Press Room or sending Club Nintendo members or other site owners confirmation as well? I mean not even Go Nintendo was informed of this.
Also if this is true then why not major gaming tv shows know it too?
We will find out soon enough or see if Nintendo is pulling a Hudson, Capcom, and SNK Playmore on us like that one time.
Yeah..........you must've missed the memo.
Because Nintendo owns ANYTHING Donkey Kong related. Hence the reason, oooh I don't know....DIDDY KONG, for instance, a "Rare created character", appears in Mario Kart and Brawl.
So yes, eventually you will most likely be seeing DK64 on VC.
