River Raid may not have started on a Nintendo platform, but there have been countless ports over the years, including a few that hit Nintendo's side of things through compilation discs. Whenever you're playing old Atari games, you notice that there's a whole bunch of nothing to do. River Raid seemed to somewhat buck that trend, as it was a tad more complex than the average title at the time. I bet someone could make this into a really great WiiWare title if they put their mind to it.

This and Keystone Kapers I still enjoy today on both the Activision Anthology (Available on GBA) and my Atari 7800, which still works like a charm! Timeless classics, I'd say.
Would be interesting to see if Atari system games (200pts?) make it to VC or DSi.

Activision would never touch any of their original franchises these days.
Note the emphasis on "original".
I second the Atari 2600 on the VC.

Kinda say the same about EA, I just hope that Activision can back to how they were before like EA did this year.
