A portion of a GiantBomb review...

Darkside Chronicles is a fine fit for those enamored with the fiction of the Resident Evil series. It's competent enough as a guided shooter, even if it doesn't do much to improve on the hoary old format.

I am so glad I've stopped reading internet reviews from random sites/writers/editors but sometimes it really is worth a good laugh. I'd call reading this one a waste of time but it's so tiny it would seem silly to sulk over 30 seconds of lost time. Please tell me this guy doesn't write all of his critiques like this. There is nothing in there to support the idea he even played the game.

You guys mind expanding those sentiments please? As I said, I don't read internet reviews much anymore but "hoary old format" caught my attention in the excerpt above. I may have come off a little grumpy in my first post though :lol: I wasn't actually accusing the author of not playing the game, just commenting on the lack of finer details.

I just finished Darkside Chronicles today. Mr Davis' review is indeed extremely vague. His impressions only cover the most superficial characteristics of the game, characteristics that could be gathered just by watching a 5 minute video of the game. How about talking more about the scoring systems, online leaderboards, framerate, individual story arcs(only 3 of them), additions/improvments over Umbrella Chronicles, the 4 different difficulty levels, the unlockables, the control options and how long the game will last on your first play through.

I do wonder why this part was in the review:

"The flaw in this line of thinking is that all that camera shake makes it harder to draw a bead on a target, something that seems to run counter to the premium the game puts on headshots."

It's taken in context of the camera movement in the game being realistic. This is a guided experience, an on-rails shooter. It's not supposed to be easy to shoot people. The difficulty comes from how difficult it is to cap a zombie in the head.

From his description it seems like it's a fair use of the camera to add difficulty.

@yomanDS
I believe the lack of details simply comes from lack of interest. If he even had the slightest amount of passion for the story, sound, etc. it would've shown in the review. It seems like the ambiance of the view is the only thing that left an impression on him. He must dislike the game quite a bit. It seems like it all comes from the view of a person that hates those kinds of shooters.
