Castaway Boy Keith was a Game Boy adventure game, much in the style of Zelda, which was set for release on the Game Boy. For whatever reason, the game actually never got published. Even weirder, Epic and Sony were involved in the development of this title. Man...when you look at all the variables on this project, it's no wonder that it never saw the light of day!

Interesting how the times change...
Epic back then: "Hey lets make a game for the black and white Game Boy instead of the graphically superior SNES!"
Epic today: "Lets make a realistic game on the highest powered home console tech available!" (oh no wait, they develop mainly for the 360 and not the PS3, so maybe some things haven't changed that much...)
You can pretty much tell in an instant that it is a Zelda clone, but hey it might have been a good one (key word being "might" since it's unreleased).

Epic can still whore out the engine to everyone so all games look and play alike.
And "programmers" in the industry only need to make sure that the main guy is bald, 6ft 6in tall, and 380 pounds. You know instead of doing actual programming.

They're NOT talking about Epic as in Epic MEGAGAMES.
They're talking about the label "Epic Records Japan" which is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. It's not uncommon for a music label to publish a videogame either. Pony Canyon has a few titles on the Famicom like Dr. Chaos and Attack Animal Academy (a Space Harrier clone).
Also Sony has done games for Nintendo systems before. Hook. Skyblazer. Those ring a bell? Okay then.

I don't understand what "variables" make sense that it wasn't released...
And anyone that supports this, but not 3DDGH is just a hypocrite, lol.

@DeAngelo Guillory
It's not Eternal Rain's fault. RMC says "Epic and Sony" as two different entities and says it was weird that they were making the game.

Well really everyone commenting could have done the research as well really, not just RMC.
Eternal Rain's comment just took the article's mistake to a degree to joke about history with a company that didn't even branch from PC to console game development until the PlayStation 2 era.
I'm just saying couldn't hurt to look into these things before taking it at face value.
This is labeled "weird" for the wrong reasons and a slight misconception.
So congratulations these two tropes apply

I didn't think that Gear's Epic was around back then but if RMC were a bit more specific you wouldn't have to be searching on two or three other sites at the same time before posting a response..
On topic: Look, another game that copies Zedla.. Burn it at the stake!!!

Hey RMC and the article he linked to weren't exactly specific as to which "Epic." I didn't know it was "Epic Records Japan" until you just now mentioned it. When most people refer to a company with "Epic" in the name and they're talking about gaming all I ever hear about is the company that made Gears of War and the Unreal series. There didn't seem to be any extra research to be done, what RMC said in the heading and what the article he linked to talked about seemed to be all I needed to know. So give me a break, making a small mistake is commonplace. Like the old saying goes "nobody's perfect."
In other words, what @MoldyClay and @NeroSuferoth said.

I love how many games try to blatantly rip off Zelda. It's flattering and all, it really is, but it also can come off desperate. Imitation is the best form of flattery, after all.

Well I kinda knew about Epic Megagames for quite some time and I know they didn't touch consoles until the PS2 came out off the bat.
So um ... yeah.
Then the part about Sony making/publishing games on Nintendo systems, that's something I've known about since I was seven because I actually OWNED a couple of those games.

Snottieness is totally why DeAngelo Guillory is on my foes list.
He was a total jerk about grammar to someone who clearly was using english as a second or third language like it made DeAngelo really smart.
Congrats on your ridiculous 'winning.'

@Ash_Pokemaster
Same thing really, the Japanese label is Epic Records Japan and it's still a subsidiary of Sony.
Unless you entirely missed my point that Epic Megagames is NOT the same company as Epic Sony Records/Epic Records Japan.

"He was a total jerk about grammar to someone who clearly was using english as a second or third language like it made DeAngelo really smart."
May I remind you that this is the internet.
What I mean by that is that people have bad typing and spelling skills even if they ARE native English speakers. Yes that even goes to the point them of being native residents of England.
Stop assuming what people MIGHT have to feel sorry for them to make you sleep at night to throw a villain label on someone.
There was NOTHING that proved said user had English as a second language or was from a foreign country, so drop the lie already. Clearly your heart was bleeding for the wrong reasons.
I mean for god's sakes, it was native English speakers (if you're posting on Yahoo Answer's ENGLISH site, chances are you speak English or live on soil that does) that typed up crap like "How iz babby formed?"
This is stuff any old bloke would recall just by having GAMING magazines back in the day, particularly the multiplatform ones. If not that then there's always GDRI, the LostLevels, GameFAQs or MobyGames to check this stuff.
Is it really THAT weird Sony published/developed games on a Nintendo system despite the fact that we KNOW Ken Kutaragi designed the SNES sound chip (there was an article on that here), Psygnosis (another Sony affiliate) published Lemmings on various consoles INCLUDING Nintendo's and finally there IS a GN article on Skyblazer, last I checked was PUBLISHED by Sony.
I'm holding my SNES copy of Hook right now, know what I see on there? A logo showing a little rainbow feather saying "SONY". Even though this game wasn't released, there's still a slew of games released in Japan by the "duo" (the quotes because they're both in the same company) of Epic/Sony
Don't get me wrong, this is somewhat an informative article but it couldn't hurt to do some fact checking before posting is all I'm saying.
It IS a journalist's (this blog is more commentating on news than delivering it really, but I don't mind) obligation to check their sources after all and honestly I respect GoNintendo a WHOLE lot more than IGN as journalists.
If you're 'press' enough to attend E3 and GDC, you should be 'press' enough to scrub a little more credibility in your blag (intentional). Just saying :/
