Nintendo has been making money off of their video games and platforms for quite some time now, but they've really showed their dominance in the portable space. Ever since they launched the Game Boy, the Big N has been number one in portable gaming. There have been numerous companies that tried to take on Nintendo, only to see their handheld fail. Even with the success of the PSP, Sony is yet to see anywhere near the level of acceptance that the DS has gained.

nintendo really is an amazing company, they can sell crap and still make money.
i don't mean that as a joke, but simply the truth. their portable systems have been nothing but trash, we didn't even get true color until 2001 or, or a screen that could actually be seen until 2005. it's almost a joke that they were able to sell what they have, for what they did, for as long as they have.
the only real innovation has been touch screen, the rest of the portable line up has been a joke...and yet some of our best memories have been on the gb, gba, gbc, ds etc.

the psp has failed not because of its hardware, software of anything of the like, it's simply that sony has mishandled it on so many different levels that it's not even funny.
god of war, GTA VCS, portable ops, crisis core, are amazing games. they oddly look better than most wii games.
sony has truly dropped the ball on the marketing, with the crap UMD fail, the battery life etc. if the psp had touch screen it would be FAR better than the DS on every level. it IS a better system, just the screen size alone is worth taking note of.
DSI has come along way, but i'm still iff about it, and the DS games tend to be weaker. they fall into the GBA+ style of game develop, vs that of an updated N64 title. it's a shame, because the DS can do WAY more than developers are letting it.
other than psp games being very short, it's as close to a console/portable feel as you're going to get.
