I remember being so excited about this game before it came out. I loved every second of it, and I'm dying to play through it again. I know it was a collect-a-thon, but I don't care! It represents a time when RARE knew what it was doing...and was actually with Nintendo. Thanks to AusGamer for the heads up!

I never had a N64, but I remember playing this game at a friend's house and loving it. I hope it comes to the VC sooner or later.

This was the first N64 game I ever owned.

I got the Jungle Green N64 bundle. It was gorgeous.

One of the best Rare games I own. And now it'll be the closest we'll ever get to having Banjo-Kazooie on the VC.

A fantastic game. Loved it so much. Great music as always too.

It's one of the few Widescreen-enabled N64 games, although it is a little wonky in its execution(you have to set it again each time you turn the game on, and every time you enter a new area, you can see it widening out the view). If it ever came to the VC, it might actually be the only VC game to be Prog-Scan AND Widescreen......yay, I guess.

I think it's an awesome game, but dirt hard in some areas....the little banana barrel mini-games can be pretty tough. Some are timed to the point that you have to do the game EXACTLY right in order to have maybe a second to spare. And then there are those stupid beetle races that just murder you left and right...ugh, that beetle. But it was a good kind of difficult, so I liked it...I actually have it in my N64 right now, I just haven't had the chance to play it for a while.

I had this game. It was pretty good. I don't think I ever beat it though.

And to this day it remains the only game I have ever traded in at a used game shop.

While this game was hyped it really started to get dumped on within a week after its release. Too much collecting things for most I guess. I loved it though, I remember beating it at 100% or 101%, whatever it was and then playing the whole game over again. I rarely do that with games.

A VC release would have been a great way to celebrate. I wonder if this will ever be on the VC.

This was a huge game, wasn't it?

Each world had absolutely tons of things to do. Races, platforming, collecting, exploring, fighting...

I liked it =)

Odd, I just busted this game out yesterday for a bit. Was testing to see if my consoles were hooked up to my smaller TV for old school gaming and this is what I played for a bit on the N64.

I played DK64 again recently. As a kid I didn't mind the collecting aspects of the game since I was just playing to get to have fun and beat K. Rool. As an adult, I've become very OCD with this game. Now I actually sorta hate the constant switching. Makes me wish there was a quick switch feature. If I could stop being OCD with this game then it probably wouldn't bug me, but alas sometimes when you grow older some things just aren't the masterpieces you remember (like Banjo-Kazooie, I've gotta admit that despite still being a good game some aspects about it just have not aged well, the sequel is still superior in many ways). Not saying the game's suddenly become "bad" to me, I'm just saying I've unfortunately developed a small sense of OCD that causes the switching aspect to become a bother. Game's still great though, I did beat it on that said recent playthrough.

Anyway yeah I remember this commercial. Would be nice for the game to hit the VC so more people can experience the fun of DK64. I still have my N64 cart so I won't re-buy if it does hit the VC, though.

@Burgers

Me too. Which makes me cry that Nintendo shoehorned DK into a bongo game thereafter and have just plain forgotten him since [re-releasing a port of a GC game hardly counts for much]...

I want a new 3D platformer and or a new DKC on Wii/Ware, it's about time either was unveiled for the Wii console!

Rare peaked with Jet Force Gemini, minus the mandatory collecting of every hostage. What was WITH Rare and collecting during that time?

Nah, Rare peaked with Killer Instinct 2/Gold, and for some reason they never elaborated on in the time I used to follow their blog, they won't ever revisit the Killer Instinct franchise again.

I enjoyed Jungle Beat GC immensely, and when compared to 64, I'm glad that Nintendo's in control of DK once again. I never kept a save file of it because it was just the kind of game you want to play from the beginning every time. It had an arcade appeal in that way.

I loved this game, still do. It needs to be on VC, my N64 controller's analog sticks are pretty broken.

Shame it's been 10 years since a proper DK adventure...

"It represents a time when RARE knew what it was doing..."

It's funny you say that, since I consider this the point at which RARE began its fall from grace.

This game is second only to Zelda:OOT. Honestly, it's such an awesome game (and I love the DK rap!).

LOOK WHAT HE DID TO MY TAH-KSI (love how back in those days Rare wasn't afraid to use the indian accent, now days it's seen as racist and to some it's like committing mass genecide- those PC self-rightoues people are idiots).
