The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask just so happens to be my favorite Zelda game ever. It's a very close fight between The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Wind Waker, but in the end I just can't deny how much I love the different vibe that Majora's Mask offers. It's amazing, because somehow...some way...a ton of story managed to make its way into a Zelda game.

Yea, I'm the same way, RMC -- Wind Waker and Majora's Mask are extremely close. But I think that overall MM wins out by a hair.

Dunno what my favourite Zelda is. Not that much of a fan to be honest.

I finished Wind Waker and A Link to the Past. I'm in the middle of Majora's Mask. Gave up on Ocarina of Time and didn't bother to buy Twilight Princess.

I always wanted to play Phantom Hourglass and The Minish Cap but so far it never happened.

So for me... The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask...the best GAME (not only Zelda) ever made? ....uuuh NO!

Never could get into MM personally. It just seems archaic to me now. Maybe I had to play it when it came out instead of now on the VC for first time.

Funny how some months ago, this guy (RawmeatCowboy) was saying how he played Majora's Mask just once in the original N64 release.

Great article!
Gotta say this past year has given Majora's Mask some long overdue love from all over the web!
And rightly so!
Although Oot will always be my favorite for nostaligic reasons, but WW and MM are very close to being the best Zeldas.
TP had a single problem and that it played it WAY too safe.
Every console Zelda was innovative and stepped outside the norm in some way.
The original...was the original! Not much else to say!
Alttp laid the ground work and solidified the basic Zelda formula and greatly expanded upon the first Zelda.
Oot brought us into the realm of 3D a set the bar for 3D action/adventure titles.
Majora's Mask gave us the whole "Masks" element and used a 3 day cycle. Plus we got to play has 4 completely different characters. Link, Deku, Goron, and Zora.
Wind Waker stepped out of the norm with it's visuals.
TP to me didn't step out of the box at all. Nothing about that game really jumps out at me as being fresh and exciting as great as the game was.

@Burgers

I feel the exact opposite. I played it this year for the first time and it quickly became one of my all-time favourites. I felt Ocarina of Time was the game that had to be played when it came out.

I'm glad to see Majora getting the love it so richly deserves after so many years of hatin'. Although I personally like Wind Waker more, Majora is definitely number two.

I think I loved Majora's Mask out of all the Zelda Games. It was in an entirely new region of the Zelda World and had so much stuff aside from the main quest. I got all the masks but I still need to get the rest of the Pieces of Heart, and god knows how many quests I'll need for that.

Ocarina of Time is my favourite zelda game, no matter how many times I play it, I still get that same feeling of wonder and excitement.

MM is my second fav.
WW is my third fav.

The title of this story is misleading. In the article, it's arguing why it is the best Zelda game. Reading through it, the person makes a lot of awesome points. In fact, Majora's Mask is better than Ocarina of Time to me simply for some of the reasons that are posted in the article. It was something different and something that didn't follow the same old, same old. That's probably the reason why I LOVE Link's Awakening over A Link to the Past. Both Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening did something different, and it definitely paid off. A shame that no other Zelda game has yet to do a different take on the series like both of these titles, but I'm sure they'll be an obscure different Zelda in the near future.

This, hard. I'll jump on the bandwagon of opinions that the more Zelda gets rid of the whole Hyrule-setting, the more interesting and enjoyable the games become/became. Although I am among the people who did enjoy the vast, blue ocean thing (zing!) they tried with Wind Waker.

Majora is probably my favorite Nintendo game to date, due to its powerful scenario and NPCs, while Awakening and the Oracles are prime examples for how this formula can work out on portables, with much more varied gadgets - the whole "All temple treasures are elemental arrows." thing is probably Majoras biggest and only letdown.

@yomerodes

MM is the Zelda title I have played the least (and I did it recently), but it is still my favourite by some margin. So I can understand RMC's sentiments.

Best game ever made? I personally could never make a decision like that but damn... , it sure is one of them.

I'm gonna disagree with both MM and WW as being my favorite zelda game.

for me it is either TP or OOT.

I did not enjoy the sailing at all. horseback is so much more fun to me.

that and the time limits in MM made it feel less like a zelda game. (yeah I know you can rewind time as much as you want)

Both Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening did something different, and it definitely paid off.

I can see Majora's Mask being quite different to other Zelda's (3 day cycle, atmosphere is greatly emphasised, use of 5 characters, etc) but aside from taking place on an island LA isn't a whole lot different then the other Zeldas. (Still one of my favs.)

@Mcj Metroid

OOT has very many fanboys, those that worship it include even those that aren't even 'into' Nintendo anymore, this is all because of the incredible impact the game had on its release.

Don't get me wrong, that game is amazing even now and deserves all the praise it gets. I think however that it has been surpassed in every way by various titles in the series. The thing is with these people, is that they can't even truly describe WHY it is so good aside from the effect it had on them, unlike those that champion MM like myself.

For me, Majora is the very zenith of gaming as art.

Oh man, how hilarious. First, people hate MM, now years later, everyone loves it for what it is.

People initially hate WW, but now everyone loves it for what it is.

What's the best, in 7 years time, everyone will confess their secret love for Twilight Princess?
