Even though the newer version is a bit more generic, I actually like the fresh version of Maxim better than the original design. Then again, I'm a big fan of anime, so that might be playing into it.

Check out more comparisons here

The newer designs look more douchey. Kinda cool, but very douchey. I'd take the older designs.

old one looks like old FF art rip off and the new one looks like KH art rip off.

Totally messed up the woman though.

Almost reminds me of the transition from Yoshitaka Amano (FF1-6) to Tetsuya Nomura (FF7-today [both are Final Fantasy character designers; Amano still works with Square but all he seems to do now is logo art]). The new art's more anime looking, and while it's definitely not bad art it's not quite as "artistic" as the old art.

I'm a big anime fan too (heck, I write for an anime publication!), but I can't say that I like Maxim's new designs at all. Too much "beltan zippers" for me.

It's just... generic, and lacking in personality. Kinda like Tetsuya Nomura's artwork! :)

@Eternal Rain
Tetsuya Nomura didn't handle FFX or FFXII.

Read the credits before you assert this stuff.
