Rockstar obviously doesn't want gamers forgetting about GTA: Chinatown Wars this holiday season, which is why they're sending out more review copies to the press. They've also included a fortune cookie with two special messages. Hit the jump to see what the messages are.
In true Rockstar fashion, the messages are a bit off-color...

Did you know that only Wii and DS games are allowed to have legs?
I'm only kidding. Or am I?
Huston we have a problem! my sarcasm radar is picking up something... =D
I sure hope you ARE kidding.
Sub 10 000 for GTA:CW on PSP is pretty much a tenth of the game's first month on DS.
Twist that whatever way you want -- the legs on that thing would have to be amazing for the PSP version to even remotely compete with the DS one.
The truth, however, is that the data is incomplete. If you want a shot a saying that GTA:CW PSP isn't a complete and utter disaster, point towards the game's online distribution from day one. We don't know how many digital copies it sold, but we know that it held the top spot for downloads for a very long time.
That, at least, has the merit of being plausible.
Did you know that very few non Nintendo games have legs? The game is only sitting at roughly 30,000 sales after 4 weeks, going at a rate of 6,000 a week after a year it'll only be at 340,000 , which is still lower than the American DS sales.
How does it feel knowing that we are getting more proof that it's not the Wii or DS audience or even Nintendo, but the 3rd parties who are the cause of their games failing on the system? They thought 2D GTA would sell as well as 3D GTA, and consumers proved them wrong. Don't feel sad, Nintendo thought for the longest that 3D Mario could sell as well as 2D Mario, and thankfully they saw the light and released NSMB:Wii.
Anyway, this is showing desperation on their part. They once few GTA as this unstoppable juggernaut that is guaranteed to sell millions. Sadly by Game Industry logic we have zero chance of a Wii GTA game. Although, judging from 3rd party quality on the system we're not missing much.
PSP games usually doesn't have legs and the software sales are really bad for the PSP nowadays.
Yeah burgers you just opened yourself up to LITERALLY EVERY SUBSEQUENT PERSON CALLING YOU OUT.
What the heck man.
It's easy to get the feeling if the DS one was the one that bombed and the PSP one sold 650,000 that you would be saying the exact opposite of what you are saying now because you always seem to want to say Nintendo sucks, isn't good, or is doing the wrong thing... no matter what other factors are involved.
Like that 3d dot heroes game in japan selling only 7000 its first week.... then less. then less.... does it gots can haz legs? or did people not want it?
Games that 'have legs' are games like Wii Fit, Mario Kart DS, and NSMB-DS that are in the top 10 repeatedly over a year after they come out. Spin sales of 10,000 for a PSP port of a DS game however you want to make yourself feel whatever way you want, but you can spin it into three years of top ten NPD chart activity.
The thing is: Rockstar will make a profit from the DS version (aka: system for kids that can't sell third party games) but I am not so certain about the PSP version (aka: system for true macho men very hardcores).
Kill me but I am happy that the PSP version is a big bomb. Maybe some people will shut up now.
Hey there! Don't be trashing 3D Dot Heroes already!
I suspect the game is overpriced for what it is, and probably won't appeal to a large audience... but Zelda rip-off or not, it's still a sweet looking game!
"Maybe some people will shut up now."
Maybe, but I don't think that's how the internet works...
I'm not saying anything on the topic of its ripoffedness this time, but all I'm saying is it sold very poorly.
3D dot heroes has nothing to do with anything in this topic.
And yes the PSP version of GTA (what this topic is about, sort of, it was supposed to be about the DS version) did not sell well at all for first week, but I didn't realize it was fair to compare first week sales to first month sales.
No problems, you can compare first week x first week:
-PSP version (12,003)

-DS version (64,611)

Well okay. That's better. =)
You do have to take into consideration that ports are pretty inexpensive though. I would guess the game would not have to sell as much on the PSP to make a profit. Even so, those are pretty low PSP sales. It's probably because PSP owners already have 3D GTAs ... so why would they bother with a 2D one?

This is a 3D game using a different perspective. But you're probably right, psp owners won't buy this game because of the graphics, plus software sales for the psp are decreasing more and more. My problem was those articles using this game to say "oh my god, ds can't sell third party games or hardcore gamers".
I have a psp and a DS, for me, both versions of Chinatown Wars are better than LCS or VCS. It's much more fun to play and you will finish the game really fast because you simple can't stop once you start (if you are a fan of the series)
@joedick
As I said, my problem was those damn articles using this game to say "ds is for kids, can't sell hardcore games and M rated".
Maybe because PSP gamers can get older better GTA games for their handheld for cheaper?
Sorry but while Chinatown Wars is amazing, the GTA Stories games are way better.
Excuse me? But I thought PSP fans were "hardcore" gamers that I appreciate gameplay over graphics.....
@Burgers
"It's probably because PSP owners already have 3D GTAs ... so why would they bother with a 2D one?"
I'm not a 100% sure, but I think there is a "2D Mario" that will likely outsell another "3D Mario".
Anyway, at least this will shut the mouth of those journalists who said that the "DS can't sell hardcore titles", "The GTA series should have stayed in Sony's consoles", blah, blah, blah......
Er, that's different. Mario titles were immensely successful in 2D to start out with. GTA never hit huge success until they put it in 3D. So, not really valid comparison.
Good point..........However, I was expecting your answer
I know this is a bit off-topic, sorry .
And last but not least, the graphics style. It went from having a style of its own to looking like a normal GTA, from above.
Seriously, I love GTA CW to death, and to see it in another console is laughable. It was MEANT to be on the DS.
To be fair every game bomb on psp , gran turismo 20.000 / motorstorm 3.000 units. And to think that third parties put assassin creed II and army on two on psp instead of wii . Can't wait to find their numbers.
interesting way to get people to review your games
yeah, because it's a very ugly game on a far better system. you can't go from vice city stories, to CW without some issues.
if i didn't hate the DS hardware (buttons and screen size) i'd pick up the DS version...but again, the ds phat is more a struggle to play on than it should be. i might have to break down and buy a DSI, but i don't think it'll help much.
actually there are two reason, the second is that it doesn't have touch screen.
i'm sorry, but the psp is a modern marvel. getting GTA in 3d on a handheld. say what you will, but that's awesome.
it's just odd that it sells like crap. maybe if sony hadn't ran it into the ground, then things would be better.
i'll still take 3d GTA over 2D any day.
