Finally beat New Super Mario Bros. Wii 100% of the way. All coins found, and tons of fun had along the way. Damnit, now I'm sad that it's over! Hurry up with Galaxy 2, alright Miyamoto?! I'm off to bed to dream of more Mario fun, so I'll see you guys in a few, short hours.

Earlier today, I was thinking about G4, and just how little video game programming they show. XPlay is still around, and Attack of the Show has a game focus now and again, but altogether there's a real lull in video game content. I guess they're too busy showing Cops and Cheaters to be bothered with putting together original video game-related content.

Back in the day, all sorts of networks had video game shows. One of the ones that really sticks out in my mind is Nick Arcade. It was ridiculous...cheesy...idiotic...and just plain fun to watch. It mixed in fake video games with real-world games, and then in the final round you actually got to be in a video game. That part of the show as the best, simply because the act of running around inside a game just meant looking at a TV while you were running in front of a green screen.

While I was thinking about Nick Arcade, I realized that there are probably a lot of you that didn't get to check the show out. It was only on Nickelodeon, and cable wasn't as prevalent back in those days. With that said, I thought I'd offer up an episode of the show to see what you guys think!

In Canada, we still have Electric Playground (which is now a daily show) and Reviews on the Run.

I did not know there was a show called Nick Arcade. When you first said it I thought you meant the online gaming service at Nickelodeon.com

I loved Nick Arcade! I was trying to think of the name of it the other day. Go figure it would be something related to Nickelodeon... Great show even if it was cheesy. lol

I loved that show as a kid. I loved seeing anything game related on TV at that time (though admitted it wasn't for a few long years that I even found out that cartoons based on games like Mario, Zelda, and others even existed). Man I always wanted to be on it.

I'll watch this later for a nostalgia rush. (speaking of other things relating to classic Nickelodeon, I should try and see if anyone online has uploaded episodes of The Angry Beavers, because Nick's being stubborn with releasing that show on DVD.)

Great show. All the old Nick game shows were great along with Friday night SNICK shows. Good times.

Some other goodies:
- Double Dare
- What Would You Do?
- Wild and Crazy Kids
- GUTS
- Legends of the Hidden Temple
- Get the Picture

Sigh...I'm 8 again...my gosh that was 20 years ago...I'm old. Good times, folks...goood times. Salute Your Shorts, Welcome Freshmen, Family Double Dare, and so so many more.... If Nick released one giant box set of all of these, I'd buy it up (or at least save until I could) in a heartbeat!

Loved that show.

One thing I hated was how they never had any Nintendo games in the video challenges. I imagine it's mainly cause Nintendo didn't sign off on it or Sega was a big sponsor or something. They had Sonic the Hedgehog all the time, but never any Mario.

I remember watching this show every morning at 4am on Nick GAS (where they put all of Nickelodeon's old game shows) but now they ended broadcast earlier this year. Thank god for the Internet & YouTube!

And the title was kinda misleading...

Now to go climb the Aggro Crag, then completely f*** up the ShriiIIiiine of the Silver Monkey.

But yeah, G4 sucks. Their first year, year and a half were pretty good though. The best show they ever aired was called Portal. Ostensibly, it was a show about MMO news, but since there wasn't always new stuff to report every week, they developed it into a serial story which incorporated the news elements into it. It was pretty awesome.

And for another little bit of videogame tie-in, a quick look up reveals that Danny Cooksey did some voice work for MadWorld.

This show was awesome even though everybody always sucked at the last part. I always bring this show up when people talk about the good old Nick shows and nobody ever knows what I'm talking about. They still play it on the Nick GaS channel I think.
