It was kinda special when it was Mega Man 9.
It feels kinda weird to repeat it with Mega Man 10, though. :|

Strictly looking at it from a monetary point of view though, this is a goldmine worth exploiting for Capcom and probably more lucrative than retail games. Still... Sheep Man? Checking out how original the new robot masters are is probably half the fun already.

While I played through MM9 I thought to myself, this is a good thing going here but if they made more in the 8 Bit style it'd ruin it somewhat if you get me, like the novelty of having a "new NES" game in 2008 was something that should have been a one off...but now this has been announced, bugger it, I can't wait!

surely there were absolutely no way to make a gorgeous game on wiiware , or to add a multiplayer twist to a 2d game . And neo retro should be understood as not even as good as old game. Also apparently no one with a wii will take those psp games or megaman collection.

@Hisiru

My main issue is not milking the sequels, it's because they're going backwards to milk the success of the 2nd game.

Did Nintendo used 8bit style when they made New Super Mario, no, they kept it 2D while making it look new at the same time.

If I want to play an 8bit Rockman game, I'll play the originals thank you very much:

Now I just hope it's not as maddeningly hard (I.E. cheap) as 9 was.

And also, I hope they make playing Proto Man more worthwhile, as in not make him take twice the damage and get knocked back twice as far. It also wouldn't hurt this time around if Mega Man also had his charge shot and slide again.

But either way, you know I'll be downloading it.

I do wish it was a disc release with new graphics and the like, though. But hey, I'll definitely take it!!

...I so hope Roll's the third playable character. And she's actually useful unlike in Powered Up. It'll probably be Bass, though.

...And it's disappointing to hear Mega Man's being stripped of charging and sliding again. I mean, Proto Man's great and all, but it'd sad to see Capcom can't think of enough new stuff so as to keep Mega Man's abilities and have Proto Man have new ones.

It's not just graphics, it's the fact that they stripped the game down and removed key elements that we got used to (Rock Buster, Power Slide, etc...) in order to make it more like Rockman 2.

Also, if you love the series, you wouldn't mind playing the older games.

I have nothing against NSMB Wii as a game. It's amazing. I'm just not a fan of the NSMB visual style and yes, prefer the more retro style if you were to compare the two.

Bottom line is, we're talking about a WiiWare game here. Not a big, full, retail release. If the whole retro style really bothers you that much, then just don't download it.

why the hate on the 8-bit? they re used it? ummm. . . . half of the new games use textures and sound clips form older games. Some even just take the first one, add some levels or weapons and call it new. Im not saying its a good excuse but that rant is getting old, you dont like the art style, dont look.

As for why? I completely understand. Play New super mario then try Mario bros. 3 and youll feel the difference. its not just graphics its slight tweaks to the gameplay. Sure, they both are great and follow that classic Mario formula, but they are different.

Now look at megaman, when he went 16 bit not a lot of fans (Well, NEW fans, cause there are a lot of Megaman X people out there, but some dont like the classic mega, go figure) enjoyed the series, when he went 32 bit he dissapeared. LEgends? comon you really want to go there?

Part of the Megaman challenge was the limitations of the system hardware. That challenge is classic Megaman formula, you take that away and its a different game. Also, "Gimping" Megaman by taking away any of his move list isnt that bad. He started out in Mega 1 just running jumping and shooting. No busters, No slides, No crouching, no wall jump. Again, this leads to the classic challenge of a Megaman title. They released a whole bunch of other Megaman games where he can fly, and crouch, and play cards, and upgrade, and hadoken, and race, and so on and so forth.

Im sure someone is going to pull a Mega title at me and say "Loook! this proves you wrong!" thats not the point. Point is, they wanted (set out, goals, ambitions) to create a "Classic" Mega Man title and to really capture that "Classic" feeling, you need 8-bit. You dont like it dont buy it.

Sides, i remember a lot of people moaning and groaning when Megaman 6 came out.

i think the bigger deal of the two is losing the sliding. the megabuster i can do without.

it seems that they're taking into account the issues from the last game like the cheap deaths and all. I didn't have a problem with it, but it's good they're addressing it.

if people either couldn't finish it, or lost interest then that's a problem that needs to be sorted out.

Megaman 1-6 is not Megaman 9 and 10 though. So playing the first 6 has nothing to do with playing 9 and 10.

That's like saying "If I wanted to play New Super Mario Bros. style, I'll just play the DS one, thanks"

or "If I wanted to play Toon Link, I'd play Wind Waker instead of Spirit Tracks".

They aren't the same games.

@Blue_Falcon

This a thousand times.

@internet

You're complaining about no multiplayer when we don't even know if there is any?

And calling Capcom cheap for making an 8bit WiiWare game? When we have other 8bit wiiware games that are praised (Bit.Trip, and upcoming, Cave Story technically), and considering the fact that 7 of the 10 Classic Megaman series games are 8bit, and it's obviously a part of the appeal to fans of Classic Megaman.

Fans ASKED for the Megaman 10, and they LIKED the reusing of 8bit.

And what does the PSP/collection games have to do with anything? I bought the PSP MM Powered Up, and I have no real reason to buy collections when I can play NES emulators (and I'm terrible at MM games, so it'd be a waste anyway).

@chicken fangas

Where were you? Did you play any of the past Megaman games? The whole series is trial and error.

but when are they going to make that holy grail game that ties together the original series and the X series?

Megaman games aren't about stories, but you could tell they had a story planned out since X4.

And could you imagine a darker toned classic megaman game where Zero is the final boss?

You will say that the game is bad just because you don't know how to play it?

If I die every second on Final Fantasy XIII I will call it a bad game, seems to be fair, right?

Maybe you don't have skills to play a classic Megaman, they are supposed to be hard but it doesn't mean that it's a bad game, it's just hard for you (not for me). Some people prefer this level of difficulty.

Hellz freakin' YES.

Mega Man 9 was one of my favorite games of last year, hands down. I feel it polished the 8-Bir formula. More of that? Sign me UP baby. Are we looking at a 2010 release?

Also, to everyone complaining about how hard it was, have a little patience, geez. I can breeze through most of that game. It's some trial and error, yes, and that is part of the hardcore old school gaming theory there. All teh hardcorez ought not be whining if they're all playing Demon Souls, after all.

In fact I take that reference with a bit of humor. The funny thing is that the episode explains that the usage of said word you're referring to has always been used as an insult to many people before its 20th century application to homosexuals.

Please tell me when I said it was bad. I said it wasn't much fun for ME. Imagine that, someone with a different opinion from you.

And when did I say I didn't know how to play it? Stop shoving this crap down my throat as if I said it or at the very least implied it. That Final Fantasy analogy is one of the worst i've ever heard. I said Mega Man 9 was frustrating and not fun for me. I knew how to play, it isn't that hard to grasp my head around jumping, shooting and switching weapons from time to time. But the time you tell me dying over and over again is fun is the day you are a complete imbecile in my book. Last I checked we played video games for entertainment and fun, and when a game isn't fun then there isn't much point in playing it.

Also to prove i'm not the only one who thinks this way I suggest you watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uh9Sob5 ... e=iv#t=19m

Contra is very easy (except for the arcade version), Megaman classic is another level of difficulty, you need to have much more reflex.

And no, I didn't, I already saw a lot of people saying the same things over and over again because they sucks at this game but I already saw a lot of fans saying that Megaman 9 wasn't that hard, and I am one of them. You know what is funny? A guy that never followed the franchise say bad things about the difficulty.

"Where were you? Did you play any of the past Megaman games? The whole series is trial and error."

No. No they're not. Perhaps the basic aspect of the series and the idea of getting the right weapon for the right boss is, but the actual gameplay for the most part ISN'T trial and error except for two games: Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 9. Mega Man 9 was a beautifully presented game, but was downright STUPID about level design and difficulty. It is the hardest game in the series outside of MAYBE Mega Man 1, and that is NOT a good thing when the only reason it's so hard is that you absolutely HAVE to know what to do in order to do something, which is naturally impossible on first runs. Mega Man 9 is like Mega Man 2 with pumped up difficulty and no easy mode... and the only reason it got away with it is people being downright blind with nostalgia.

I just hope that Mega Man 10 corrects this error, and doesn't use its "easy" mode to make the levels even "harder" (read: cheaper) on "normal" mode. Every game past 2 is a better frame of reference for level design.

I will give Mega Man 9 props for having one of the most ingeniously crafted disappearing-block puzzles in the series, though. I just wish the rest of the game was that expertly crafted.

Oh boy, this is really quite sad how you are even trying to argue this.

Watch the video before you respond again. People who played the games when they were 8 years old and able to beat it and Mega Man 9 is nothing but getting your ass kicked throughout the entire game. That's great that you don't think Mega Man 9 is hard. Just get off your god damn high horse and realize that not everyone has the patience to sit through 9 games in the series to get "skills" to pass a level a level without dying. You know what's funny? The fact that you have to try and convince me the game is fun.

@COlimar788

Finally, someone talking some sense around here.

". Just get off your god damn high horse and realize that not everyone has the patience to sit through 9 games in the series to get "skills" to pass a level a level without dying."

If you are not used with a certain hard series OF COURSE it won't be easy.

"The fact that you have to try and convince me the game is fun."
I never did that, I am just saying that you aren't used with the series and you think that it should be easy for you. They are focusing on hardcore fans that already know the series and how the things works.

@Hisiru

Yeah but there's a difference between challenging fun and damn near impossible. In which case Mega Man 9 is the latter. I shouldn't have to play every single Mario game that came before NSMBWii just to have a CHANCE of beating it.

And yet according to people who have played the series it's still a pain in the ass to play so that statement can get thrown out the window. They are supposedly focusing on "hard-core fans" and yet according to COlimar788 the level design is incredibly idiotic.

I don't know about COlimar788's life, I know about my life and how much I played this series.

But look, I think you are right from your perspective, they need to put the easy and normal mode, this is really a problem (and I hate when I can't select a difficulty), Capcom made a big mistake here, but for hardcore fans I think this game is brillant.

Now you see where i'm coming from. If Capcom includes a difficulty level in 10 then i'll give it a shot. But if they don't then i'm not putting down another $10.

Sheep mMn, an electricity based boss. And already knowledge of a lava based level. How many times are they gonna reuse the same themes over and over again?

Tsk, tsk, Capcom, for the blatant rehashing.

I didn't say you had to enjoy the other games. I'm terrible at them. I've beaten like 2 games. If that.

I was just making the point that it's always been that way.

@COlimar788

To be fair, I just based it on my experiences with the series, which is evidenced by the fact that for some reason, I am just terrible at MM games.

I'm not much of a Megaman fan, really, but I like the characters, and the music. And I like some other aspects.

I liked MM9. I also didn't beat Wily's Castle. I simply can't. I can't beat Fake Man's stage either.

I got the game because I like Protoman, Galaxy Man, Splash Woman, the music, and the idea of having a NEW 8bit game (not necessarily of Megaman, but in general).

I'll probably buy Megaman 10 too. Because I'm sure certain bosses, music and so on will draw me in again.

first off, nice capcom for making my day today. second...its just frustrating how people gotta bash the game because they cant play it right.
@chicken fangas
Oh really? The "skills" to play Megaman since the NES era? That's funny. I can play through Contra perfectly fine and then when I reach Crapcom's devil child Mega Man I don't have the "skills" to play. Besides, i've talked to people who played previous Mega Man games and they don't like the game too much either.

contra is HARDER than mega man hands down. one thing as an 8 year old playing a nintendo game, you hate getting killed in one hit. in megaman, he has 28 hit points. and theres no timer (mario) and there is energy pellets around. who did you talk to? the "we hate megaman club?"
I did watch that video link you sent and they compared it to the FAN GAME IMPOSSIBLE MARIO. are you kidding me? thats like comparing hello kitty to I wanna be the guy! i think those two guys hadnt a clue of what they were talking about. mm9 isnt as hard as you say it is. it requires patience which you dont have. never pick up side scrollers. they arent you.also...that thing where capcom is "just targeting hardcore fans"? they aren't. they put in difficulty sections so new players can experience a watered down version of what we have endured for years so they can get hooked on it.

-------------------------------------END
and please..to the graphics people...my god..they don't make the game. game play and replayability is what makes the game. please just save us all the time to have to read.

i believe as a gamer, the harder the game is, the better. if your going to complain about how hard it is, instead punch a pillow, pick up that controller and play it until you can play it with your eyes closed....or go play harvest moon. yes megaman 9 was a pain i died in tornadomans stage a few times with the rolling platforms but it got used to it and i ended up beating the game the first day i bought it.

on to more important business... enter stage X and zero? will the be referenced...probably not. inafune was already asked it when mm9 was coming out. he basically decides when the series ends or how it ties in. or when he just gets tired of it and just gives us what one of you dubbed "the holy grail" game.

@All you ranting haters: Stop whining and fighting. It's a new megaman game, so just clam up and let the good times roll.

@All others: Right on, brothers. This'll rock.

@Myself: Stop mediating and go finish MM9.

Would have been cool to have a 16-bit style, but ah well. Still good news.
