Filed Under: Nintendo in general
We'll post this up, just for the sake of being thorough. We've already showed you the short version of this statement, and linked you to the full audio interview. Below is Miyamoto's full answer to a question about HD, and whether Nintendo is heading in that direction.
“…I’m afraid we cannot confirm what we are doing today. But the fact of the matter is that technology is evolving all the time and in Japan, for example…All the analog broadcast will be stopped and shifted into the digital broadcasting. So many things are taking place and we are working in terms of the changes of the technologies all the time.”

Alot of people aren't, I'm HD ready, have been for 2 years, now it just seems like a buzz word, I think nintendo has it right overall, the big jump, forced jump mind you will be in Digital over analog, not really HD. I'm sure they'll make the jump next consoles, and there's no real reason to simply go 720p over 1080i, but I think Nintendo will focus on not losing market simply because the console is in HD, ie, all the problems SD users have with HD systems.
Anecdotal evidence isn't normally the best way to prove a point. :X
We had an HD Wii ready since early 2008, but were waiting for everyone to buy the regular Wii and once the sales finally slow down, we'll release it so that we can start this cycle all over again.
Seriously, you didn't see this coming? Come on, we've been doing this with the GameBoy, GBA and NDS, it was bound to happen with out consoles.
I think that was a bad joke with bad stereotypes, wasn't it?
@Artistic_Anarchy:
I have yet to have a problem with the storage or SD cards but then again, I just delete games to download new ones (and yeah, I have MANY WiiWare games), I don't see it as a big deal, I would obviously like to have more capacity, but I don't see it as something primordial, but well, to each it's own.
Oh, I hope so. I mean, Nintendo has already proven that they know hard drives exist when they made those game stations for children's hospitals and such. I've only just begun accepting my SD card slot as something useful now that Activision has made it less of a pain to use (in GHWT). If Nintendo did the same and allowed for direct loading, there would be a lot less complaints. To load a 180 block song from my SD takes 10 seconds but copying a 300 block game from SD to internal memory takes upwards of 3 minutes. 300 blocks to the SD takes over 7 minutes. All with a 60x 2gb card.
@pikma:
Yes
In the internetz, you never know what is sarcasm and what's not (this isn't).
"We might see, maybe, could be, who knows, we are working on something, games are coming have faith"
If that was true then how come the Wii is winning in terms of sales?

But by the time they do then you'll be on the next big thing after HD, no one will give it a second glance.
So what would the point of a HD Nintendo be again?
on one hand, the brought the world affordable touch screen, which is now becoming standard on everything, yet on the other hand, they have crappy small screens that suck to the tune of 1992.
Wifi is becoming standard on everything, yet they refuse to offer DVD as a standard, which is in EVERYTHING. Sure, some would suggest we don't need it, but my point is there.
Portable batter life is some of the best around on Nintendo systems, yet we have a wii with 512 memory like it's 1995 all over again.
No harddrive, and a lust for out of date SD cards, no real online multiplayer/in game dlc in way of new maps, items or weapons, yet pretty good motion control.
It's very odd really, how they can be so far a head in some areas and really far behind in others.
We'll also see the current "graphics whores," both developer and consumer alike, talk about how the new system is only "PS3 level" and that's why this new Nintendo console deserve only "mini-games" and poorly ported PS3/360 games (and not even the good ones).
Yep.
The only reason they will do HD is when they HAVE to do it.
And do you know whats best about these:
" yet they refuse to offer DVD as a standard"
"a lust for out of date SD cards"
both SDHC-card compatibility and Dvd-playback have been already done by homebrew on Wii. :p
