Dragon Quest IX has a pretty unique feature. If you leave your character at Rikki’s Inn, there's an option to passively invite other online players. This allows you to find multiplayer partners without actively hunting them out...they come to you!

- your DS can be closed and this function will still be active
- once characters show up at the inn, you can learn more about them before venturing on a journey
- a stat list shows you the other player’s play time, multiplayer playtime, number of quests completed, monster list percentage, item list percentage, and more
- you can personalize your information with a greeting for other players to see
- visitors bring treasure maps with them
- the treasure map has the name of the original owner on it, but if you pass on the treasure map without completing it, your name will be added to the map
