"Yes, I have thought of doing something new, and it makes me very excited to think of new elements for the game. This is just an idea but ... as you know, Pokémon is a role-playing game. But, personally, I really like the action type of games, so we just talk about that sometimes. We probably want to add some kind action element to the game." - game director Junichi Masuda
That sounds like a good idea to me! I'd definitely be a bit more interested in the series if it added in some action elements. The thing is, I know that Pokemaniacs would cry foul if something like that happened, and I don't think I can blame them.

It would be for the better.

I want something different. Doing the same thing 3 times over 4 series gets boring fast.

Definitely agree.
Or at least make a Wii main series of Pokemon games that revolves more around action aspects. Picture this...the RPGs stay on the handhelds, but a new series (not a spin-off series) is created on the Wii. These games will operate quite a bit like the DS games, but with a lot of differences. For one, the world is completely 3D and you roam and explore as you would any 3D adventure game (or Pokemon RPG for that matter). When you encounter another trainer or wild Pokemon you use the Wii's pointer to select a Pokemon from your team of 6 (there will be 6 icons in the hub some where) and flick the Wii remote to throw out your Pokemon. Now here is where some more action comes in. Now you aren't controlling the trainer anymore. You are controlling your Pokemon that you've sent out. Different WM+ motions and IR functionality would dish out your different attacks as you freely roam the battle field and dodge attacks from your opponent with the nunchuk's analog stick. The Wii Remote buttons are reserved for trainer actions, however, such as items, swapping pokemon, etc...
This could even be an MMO of sorts where you and friends can travel on your journey together. They could add in new storylines/quests/objectives. Maybe I don't want to be a Pokemon Master. Maybe I want to be a breeder, or gym leader, or exotic dancer. A completely open quest with options would be awesome.
Anyway...I've ranted too long, but I think they could really get people excited about Pokemon again if they would just evolve the series. With the connectivity of consoles these days, Pokemon doesn't need to be strictly portable anymore. Its time to make the series fresh again and go back to the drawing board.

Amen to that.
As excited for the GS remakes as I am, they can't relay on remakes and slight advances each PKN game generation anymore.
