May 30, 2009 by RawmeatCowboy Filed Under: Wii, Nintendo in general

Posted at the official Brawl website...

As of June 30th, 2009, the current service that accepts user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data will no longer be available. Please note, however, that we will continue to distribute such data after that date.

Thanks to JJ for the heads up!

@GIAFGC: I agree that this sucks even though I don't like the game because of the bad controls.

What?! It's only been out a little more than a year. Why are they taking it down?

Thought this would be top story material...

When you get your screenshot, replay and stage fo the day someone has to hand-pick those to avoid penis stages (and other unsuitable material) being sent out.

I wonder what will happen post June 30th. Will it go into an infinate loop of existing content?

Read the story?
"Please note, however, that we will continue to distribute such data after that date."
That suggests they're going to loop the data or they've found like 2 years worth of content. Either way I doubt anyone will be able to tell the difference.

More proof that Nintendo is too stupid to support a community themselves. :\

W/e I stopped playing Brawl once the online started sucking too much for its own good anyways.

Nintendo must have several years of decent-enough stages, replays and screenshots already though - if everyone were to send in data every day for a year, that would be roughly 3,650,000,000 pieces of data. Sending out one of each type a day, that would amount to over one billion days of content... They don't need any more!

That didn't last very long. They should have just not had that in the game and made the online multiplayer actually work

@Munny

Cut out that and the other needless features so I could actually have a game that even works at all. :\

Or maybe they know more than pretentious, whiny gamers?

Kidding, right? Brawl has almost fully customizable controls with 4 controller options. How can it have bad controls?

A little disappointing, but I'm sure Nintendo already has tons of user-created content to pull from for years (maybe even centuries :P).

Not that there really was that high of a chance of a stage, snapshot, or video of mine being selected to be sent out to users all over the world, now I know that there will eventually be no chance. Hehe...

Maybe they will announce a Brawl Director's Cut version or something at E3 and support that one instead. I would buy it if they included Mewtwo, a few more stages, more stage editor options but most importantly... good online gameplay w/ Wii Speak.

That has to be a joke.

Not @ Anyone
I'm assuming they have more than enough submitted that they could distribute content for years. They just probably don't need anymore. They are still distributing it, so I don't see a big deal.

Well...most the stuff people lash out about around here is never a big deal.

I can get behind the "enough to last" idea.

Though a special edition of Brawl wouldn't bother me terribly, particularly if they brought back more Melee and 64 stages, and gave us a Mario without FLUDD.

Not a good decision, but Brawl is hardly affected much by it considering they already have so much content to send already.

Fact remains, the game is freakin amazing and I didn't even send anything in...
