It's great to see Shigeru feeling confident after the GCN era. :)

Miyamoto-san is right. Wii games AREN'T shallow. It's to bad that this will just seem like an excuse for more Nintendo hate to the blind and ignorant "hardcore gamers" who'll just bash him and bring up Wii Music as their justification. And of course...Miyamoto-san FTW!

If I had as many money printers as Nintendo has, I'd be pretty happy too, lol.

But seriously, it's good to see the Shigster looking up after those rough GC years, which GC totally didn't deserve in the first place.

Sorry Miyamoto, but a goooooood majority of Wii games are VERY shallow. There's the occasional one that can challenge (because the game itself is challenging, not because the controls or the game are broken) and have a cool amount of depth. But the Wii's strong titles are VERY outnumbered by the piles of garbage

This E3 has proven more than anything that people hate on Nintendo just because it's "the cool thing to do". They say Nintendo's presentation was dissapointing because they showed Mario and Metroid sequels. Then they praise the other presentations where they showed sequels to last year's games and motion sensing peripherals. Wii sucks because I mean, who wants to stand up and move around to control a game? That's too much work. Then Microsoft announces Natal which needs you to be even more active and suddenly motion controls are awesome. WTF???

Apparently Miyamoto has never played Wii Music, etc. Nor has he played about 95% of third party games for Wii.

I don't see why anyone would remark about how nice it is to see he's happy again. It's not like Miyamoto was getting up on stage and moping around at E3s and press events before the Wii hit, if he was sad, it was an introverted thing no one knew about.

Also, of course Nintendo is a company, and their primary goal is to reap profit and be successful, but it still holds true even now that more than any other developer, they care deeply about their craft. They perfectly embody the classic anecdote of doing what you love, they're just a bunch of lucky guys. Miyamoto isn't just happy because of their greater success, the happiness is onset by the fact that this precedent of better gaming, which is what Nintendo stands for, is finally being more widely accepted.

Although sometimes that's not so clear to "hardcore" gamers.

Most third party wii games are, and I think that Nintendo doesn't see that. They are having serious problems to gather third party support, and I wish they were more aggressive.

They were disappointed because everything was predictable and watching them present the casual stuff was really painful.

Yup...b/c EVERYONE already knew about that leaked info. about a Team Ninja and Nintendo partnership. Oh, and don't forget those couple of Golden Sun DS screens we got from that one mag about a month ago. And who wouldn't have guessed Nintendo's next peripheral would have been something that measures your heart rate?

Miyamoto never cared about the money. He's one of the people still in the industry that truly loves what he does for a living; how else could you explain him staying as late as 2am in the morning repeatedly.

The GameCube era was one of the worst moments for Nintendo, both financially and quality goes. I can't think of one truly awesome game that came from that era, including Mario and Zelda.

The GC era was also the time Nintendo released tons of new IPs. Too bad they didn't really translate into cash.

Also consider the fact that the japanese are known to be workaholics, which may explain why he stays up at 2am. Regardless, the fact that Wii music exists despite outrage tells something about him and what his vision is for the medium.

I dont think one can blame Nintendo for the rather bad third party support. Remember they compete against Microsoft and Sony, two megacorporations with billions to spend on gathering support. Both companies have used the tactics of economic bullying to get the position they now have in the console market, and the main strategy is to pay other companies to support their platforms. Compared to those companies nintendo are a dwarf, and they have no possibility to compete with them when it comes to paying for support and exclusive titles from third parties.

Gamecube provided a slew of great games. The only franchise that didn't hit its highest note on GC was the main Mario series. Galaxy was much better than Sunshine.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If they make something innovative everybody complains because it's too weird or it's not what they thought it would be. They make something traditional and everybody complains because they expect Nintendo to be innovative all the time. (Just like when Wind Waker and Twilight Princess released.)

Miyamoto mentioned that he wanted to announce it next year. Whether or not he meant E3 2010 isn't known, but don't count on a trailer or even official announcement this year. And DEFINITELY don't count on a 2010 release, under any circumstances whatsoever.

Actually, I don't think WiiMusic is bad. It's more than meets the eye. I thought it was bad at first, but after watching some tutorials at the Nintendo Channel, it was fun to mix and match the different style of musics. And I agree with you. If you look at the comments at Kotaku, there are alot negatives comments about Miyamoto. I believe these are all "kids" who has not been to the 8-bit and 16-bit era and see how Miyamoto makes Zelda and Mario a classic that stood the test of time.

The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin series, Super Mario Sunshine. I actually liked the console Pokemon titles.

From other companies came Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 4, Killer7, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes...

I don't know what you're talking about. I thought the Gamecube era was awesome.

For the Wii, excluding TP (since it's a Wii game), I've liked Mario Galaxy, Brawl, Punch-Out!!, Prime 3 and Wario Land so far from Nintendo's games. Thankfully, 2009 and 2010 are showing some awesome games coming up, though.

MoldyClay pretty much nailed it, but I'd add on F-Zero GX for sure.

The Gamecube era was awesome for those of us who liked to GAME and didn't care if our favorite company was winning or not. It basically had the best versions of just about every franchise -- the only exception I can think of is Mario Galaxy, and perhaps Mario Strikers

Well actually I only fell at home reading Kotaku comments because of the abscence of fanboys and trolls. Sure, there are a few but compared to other sites, the quantity is quite low. And, yeah, there are several jerks who post negatively about Miyamoto-san but there are just as many here.@[fre id=17636]MoldyClay

You didn't like Fire Emblem or MKWii? MKWii may not be as good as MKDS or 64 but I had the most fun playing it because my sister also enjoyed it with me and no amount of blue shell/red shell/Bullet Bill combos can take away from that.

I also agree that MoldyClay surmises my thoughts well. While I've always been a big proponent of the Wii, the fact is it hasn't had a defining break-out hit like the GCN did. And I'm not talking popularity, just those rare gems that actually rank in the "incredibly wonderful" category of video games, like tWW. The closest Wii has come I believe is SMG.

Just as stated though, 2009 and 2010 could possibly be the years that solve this problem.

I can think of more games for Wii in only 3 years, than GC had in its 5 years. Gamecube was cool until about end of 2004. After that, it was pretty dry.
