I wonder if he has a teleprompter in front of his face. That interview was too smooth.

Good video. Even when Reggie is calm and smooth, he still strikes fear into your SOUL!

I sure do love Reggie. I just wish he wasn't so harsh on Disaster: Day of Crisis. I played the game (against his terms, I'm sure) and I can say that the game is a quality game. I do agree that it might not have sold well, but it still is a fantastic game.

Disaster is epic.

This guy is a good PR guy, but when it comes to making decisions he sucks.

Regarding Metroid, if they are such a key franchise, why did you not support Prime 3 more, Reggie? Where was our advertisement?

And lol openness to 3rd parties. Fatal Frame 4. Thanks. :3

But no, it was actually refreshing to see him acknowledge that they make non-games.

I guess developers forgot about Zelda (Capcom) and F-Zero GX (Sega).

I'd also point out the two StarFox games but I don't remember if Rare was still part of Nintendo (I think they were) and Assault has mixed opinions.

Reggie's a PR dude, he possesses ninja-like talking skills.

Please don't use Obama as the benchmark for public speaking...

This was one of the best interviews I've ever seen. Tons of information, seemingly no interruptions, great video montages during the interview and great music in the background.

Thumbs up Reggie - and GameSpot :D I really enjoyed this interview!

Reggie is a great talker, I like his rhetorical style!

What Nintendo does is all right, the only thing what us "core" gamers made/makes us angry, are those foolish 3rd party efforts on the Wii. There are still games comming with ugly PS2-grafix and even worse, bad controls.

EA will launch their best Tiger Woods ever for the Wii without 480p in Europe. Sorry EA, I bought this interlace sh&t last year with Tiger Woods 2009, it looks ugly on my projector. Every "normal" Wii game supports 480p.
Every quality Wii game supports 60 fps, albeit it's more or less stunning visuals (SSBB, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Metroid Prime 1-3). Ubisoft said, that Red Steel 2 delivers 60 fps !!

Grand Slam Tennis could have been awesome if the frames were locked at 60 fps, BUT they are locked at 30 fps and during doubles the frames come down - wtf is EA doing with the Wii CPU/GPU?

i'm sorry but prime 3 did as much as it can , and the trilogy re released is a fine way to promote the game again and quite a big bargain for the core consumer. It's a better product than the re release of the now hardcore (but kiddy before) games of pikmin 1.2.
Nintendo did everything they can to obtain third parties support but it's never going to be enough

fyi another code was a third partie project that nintendo decided to publish , like endless ocean , and many more japan titles.

see, this was a message not backed up by software from last years e3. my only comment would be that metroid and another possible cheesy resident evil game, are two games out of 25 or 30, it's nice, but keep 'em coming.

i'd love to see, but know that it'll never happen, a lionhead and zelda team up. that would be awesome.

@the king up north...

yes, what was with that one tooth though? does reggie have a gold front tooth, or was it the light shining on it just right. it was odd, i couldn't stop looking at it.

metroid is flashy, but not as flashy as that one tooth.

i think that tooth should have a name, i name it Spiffy, spiffy the tooth.

Crazy teeth (ZOOOOM) what crazy teeth?

Anyway splendid interview.

Um what does he mean may or may not come into the marketplace...surely NATAL from microsoft for 360 and Sony's PS3 motion controllers are here 2010..guaranDAMNteed?

Kidding...(what do I know anyway)

But seriously...Reggie knows how to talk the talk...and Nintendo's philosophy (which I agree with) is all but sound.

As for Metroid M....Team Ninja x Nintendo = Win?

^^ thats x not even + it has to be good!

"Disaster is epic."

Disaster is crap. It was a b rate game that should have been canceled alongside project Hammer. The only reason people even bring up Disaster anymore is:

-They can't have it
-It gives them another reason to bash Nintendo
-They love to complain, in general

Kirbylol, have you played it? Obviously there are certain games out there where the consensus from impressions is almost all agreeable that the game is "crap"...games like Big Rigs, or Anubis 2. But from what I know Disaster has recieved mixed reviews, so unless you've played it and found it unplayable I don't see how you could have the opinion you do.

Sorry but Disaster was a very fun game. One of the very few games that i actually played through twice which is almost unheard of for me nowadays,i must have played over 20 hours of it and if they ever made a sequel(which they won't) it would've been a day 1 buy for me.I've heard hardly any negative comments for Disaster from the people who actually went out and bought it.

Well some games are hated by everyone but loved by some people. I personally loved Mischeif Makers (N64), Opoona (well it wasn't that great but I still enjoyed it. Overall though, it's not one of the greatest RPGs ever, even as a cult classic) and Casltevania Judgment (the music was the best part. If you like VGM, download or buy the OST...NAO!!1). I'm sure there are some games that I'm forgeting but you get the point, right?

@Mave

You played it against his terms. That's like going against Godzilla with a watergun as your sole weapon. Then again, Reggie's probably invincible.

No it's not a sure thing Natal will be out when MS says it is or even ever, at least not with all the features they said it would.

MS do that all the time with their software on PC's, but gamers aren't as forgiving as people waiting for the next version of Windows.

Why do I get the feeling you never played it?

Also, the game received mixed reviews. Mixed. It wasn't universally panned by critics. Is it the greatest game ever made? No, not even close. Is it worthy enough for a US release? When Wii Music is, yes, I'd say Disaster is worthy enough to make it to the US. If marketed well it could have been a success for Nintendo.

It has enough of a core feel to be considered a core game, it has enough "waggle" to bring in the Wii Sports crowd. It was a fun game.

Reg wouldn't be half as bad if he lost his whole "badass" attitude. He's not intimidating, he's not funny, he doesnt take anyones name, and i dont think that anyone honestly fears him. Ever since he became President of NOA he has sucked more so. Reggie is the douchenator

Reggie is a freaking idiot, no amount of..painfully..slow..talking can change that.

Metroid Prime 1 sold over 3 million, and yet the way he talks it's as if the franchise is underperforming. Perhaps if you bothered to advertise the third one much like you do with your casual fodder, you may get better results.

Metroid: Other M is traditional? Oh yes, the anime cutscenes, Samus talking, OTT action, lack of exploration (from what we have seen) and wierd shifting camera angles displays that perfectly...

He bashes the other companies for showing technology without application (games), and rightfully so. The only problem is Iwata did exactly the same thing with the even more rubbish looking sensor. Pay attention man.

Nintendo needs to toss a beloved franchise like Metroid to Team Ninja (lovers of all things breast physics, makers of 81 rated Ninja Gaiden 2) to prove they care? Funny, I don't remember any other console maker doing the same, and third parties flock to them. The biggest problem here is that not only are developers arrogant, but Nintendo is doing as little as possible to show they care (no localizing games, no core advertising, poor E3 shows and more). That is all the fault of this lump doing the interview.

@Dr_Peace

They can feel Metroid Underperformed. I think they see it, and traditional gamers see it in the same light as Mario and Zelda. Nintendo did have the preview channel, which was something new to them. Sure television ads work way better, but it's expensive and hard to sell a game like Metroid.

Yoshio Sakamoto is hard at work with his team collaborating with Team Ninja in this game. Sure, Team Ninja's influence is inevitable, but with Sakamoto on board, this game is guaranteed to feel Metroid, at least in the way Fusion felt like Metroid.

The only games not published by NOA are Disaster (I have it, it's a fun style of blockbuster game, but a great game. It's fun, but nothing special. Fatal Frame IV (buggy mess of a game) Captain Rainbow, and Wii Chess.

Reggie really revitalised Nintendo in America, the product won't sell on itself, and Nintendo has pushed it's 2 systems breaking record after record. He is a really talented marketing person. Maybe some games aren't as advertised as you like because the new buyers won't really be big enough to justify the costs. You don't know how Nintendo's marketing works. You may be displeased with it, but your post seems silly and uneducated.
Also Itagaki is the breast lover fan, without him, I'm sure Team Ninja won't go overboard with them.

It was a good interview.
