Oh, IGN. That rewind theatre was just lazy.

"As you can see, no star cursor on screen, looks like you only get it when you're on Yoshi"

In other parts of the trailer, guys, the star cursor is clearly visible with no Yoshi. C'mon.

And I think they're wrong about the clone Mario purple coin challenge. I think it's a bunch of Marios that follow your steps a few seconds behind and you just have to be able to collect all the purple coins without running into yourself. You can see one 'land' at the end of the scene at the bottom left, perhaps that's where Mario originally landed to start the challenge.

Can someone explain to me how Sony's wand thing is better than WM+ ? I thought they are both 1:1

@Burgers

Yeah I don't understand why they said that(about the cursor.)

Care to watch it again becasue there right about that or at least tell me at what time you see one? And the purple coin challenge is pure suspicion. All though there idea sounds more challenging and fun then your idea. But it can be anything really.

@gamerpete64

It's not.

if I can see a sword game on the Wii where I can tickle someone under the chin with my weapon, then they're on equal ground. But even Wii Sports Resort's sword controls don't look THAT fluid.

Sony's controller can track you in 3D space, where as WM+ can only track relative motions. WM+ also loses calibration after a bit, has a bit of lag, and can't track the motion quite as finitely as Sony's wand, from what we've seen so far.

It's definitely superior to WM+ in my eyes, but it's also not out yet, has no real games being shown for it, and will definitely cost more money and require more setup.

The Sony guy couldn't hit a tennis ball... And that was a controlled demo, it's the 1:1 discussion again. We are not professional swordsmen(women), the action has to be somehow scripted to avoid crazy waggling to win.
A controlled demo of M+ could surely do all that too. Or there could be a mode in a game where you are free to fight with M+, and it'd work great, but against human opponents. Otherwise, the intelligent swordsman-like AI would easily win if you expect the action to be cinematic.

@alph

the fact that the guy in Sony's demo didn't hit the tennis ball is a fault with programming, not with tech. programming faults are not an issue when you're looking at a tech demo.

The element that gives the PS3 wands the edge is the added camera to a more finite reference point to the source of the motion, as well as the globe on the top of the wand which is constantly sending location data. That said, WM+ can get 99% of that level of 1:1 accuracy, just always keeping it relative to a constant source point. Meaning no option to move yourself around to potentially change the on-screen perspective. Again, the camera difference mainly.

Chris Roper needs to understand that 1:1 IS possible through WM+, developers need to simply program for it. Then they started talking about "with every game you're just buying a new peripheral" wtf? every game? for the purposes of this grudge match, NO. It will be one peripheral that will function with any WM+ supported game, and it will be $10 with one of those games. period

@dinofan01

There are several shots where you can see the little blue star cursor but you just have to look real hard. Whenever it is visible it is usually at the very bottom edge of the screen. It seems as though the player was keeping it off screen as much as possible for the trailer.

I hate it when sony ppl argue that they will have 2 wands and Wii only has 1 Wii Remote. Any developer can easily implement 2 Wiimotes into gameplay. Plus having 2 wands means having 0 analog stick.

And both MS and PS3 peeps seem to always be comparing there motion stuff to Wii sans MotionPlus.

Lag?

Are you serious?

I've been playing the disc golf game in Tiger Woods 2010 everyday, have tried to wave my hand as fast as I can and still haven't notice any kind of lag whatsoever.

BUT YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, ITS GOT ONE ONE!

jesus, how is this a grudge match if nobody is punching the stupid out of the sony fanboy?

also, whats with the assumtion that when you buy sony's ripoff wand, that you get two of them? YOU GET ONE, they are all like "oh, but sony is better because you get two remotes, not a remote an a nunchuck" jackasses, all of them.

wm+ is 1:1, stfu, wm+ is coming out in a bundle with a bunch of games, wiimote is standard, there is a camera by like, ubisoft or something coming for the wii, that does the same thing sony is saying the eyetoy does with the rubber play toy

must i also point out that in the sword demo (which everyone was apparently amazed by) either the player has an extremely deformed and spastic wrist, or the signal was skipping?

while i know sony are shameless cowards who would rather ripoff things than do something of their own, i really wish they would have at least waited, to reveal, because seeing fanboys drool over a broken tech demo makes me sick.

@Killasnipersz

dont mind auto, i havent seen any other posts by him, but im sure he is a sony fanboy too, look at how he just plain makes s*** up about the wiimote

"ohhhh lookie he-yuh we are shoney, we make-a new controller, we are shoooo crever!"

the sonymote can track you in a 3d space like the eyetoy ie a dot in a 2d picture, it's useless... i dare say that weight transfer detection is far more useful

the sonymote is VASTLY INFERIOR to wiimotionplus, it can't track every slight variation of the wrist , because it doesn't have any gyroscope or ultrasound receptor(confirmed), only basic accelerometer. It can't do anything like the skydiving demo or the very first soft made for motion plus

the sonymote DOESN T EVEN HAVE THE 2006WIIMOTE POINTER FUNCTIONALITY.
Watch the demo again and pay attention. They had to lift the sonymote parallell to the screen. The wiimote can do this also but more importantly it could be tilted to obtain the same result.

just see it for yourself RIGHT NOW!
wii--settings--sensor--light sensibility
try to bring the two dots in the middle of the screen
two way to do that:
1--TILTING the wiimote
2-- LIFTING the wiimote

with a fixed camera like in natal or sonymote [put the wiimote on the tv and take the sensor ] there is only one way to get the same result
l-i-f-t

natal can't track every variation of the wrist, at best only a dot for the hand

nintendo have the best motion solution for PRECISE and HARDCORE GAME,and it's already out for free with the first game

or you can simply watch wiisports resort and realise that the other two didn't show anything close to that

First of all stupid arguments for defending motion control technology on all sides.

Thats said.
Natal & Sony's Eye are the same darn thing with cosmetic differences.

And they both simply cant hold a candle to the functionality you get with the wiimote with or without WMP.

Many games dont need WMP to be engaging. Galaxy didnt need it, Metroid didnt need it, Zelda didnt need it. I "know" how much fun it was to play Excitetruck without WMP and without a steering wheel. And those are all different types of games.

And now we have the Conduit coming out.
And by the time those other two solutions come out, Wii will have a years worth of WMP games out already.

Sorry, I just dont see the advantage the other two new offerings are offering. And at this point, adding a camera to the Wii is like overkill.

yeah agree with alot of people here, yes M+ can do 1:1, however it may need to be manually re calibrated in some instances over an extended period of time. And it doesnt have lag either, as attested by tiger. Sony people seem to be trumpeting the sony motion controller for no lag because of the augmented reality feed from the ps3 eyetoy. Of course the 3d model is going to map exactly to the hand because the graphics and the eyetoy feed are both coming directly from the ps3, they inherently will have the same exact "lag". If you compared and outside feed of both M+ and the SonyMote, they would probably be the exact same.

And the sony double wand argument is pretty lame as well. As someone mentioned above, you can do the exact same thing with 2 m+. Their argument cant be valid until we know how the units will be sold, do you get 1 or 2? How much? and will any games use 2 wands for 1 person? They will most likely need an analog solution as well.

Also apparently the tabble tennis game of WSR triangulates you controller manually, so that your actual physical position is used to control the position of your miis movement.

And the pros of the m+, it is cheap, and in some cases free(WSR) It can be used from any location in the room, and doesnt have to be in sight of anything. The signal cant be blocked, as opposed to visual interference from the other 2 solutions, and possibly lighting conditions.

I will say that I am optimistic that they are attempting motion controls for the other consoles, I would love to play an awesome fps on a powerful machine with direct pointing, and great online. Which the wii is lacking.
