Story Feedback
I usually agree with Giant Bomb's scores because in my honest opinion they give high scores to Wii titles that deserve them, games like Boom Blox Bash Party, Brawl, Punch Out, you know, games unique to the Wii, experiences you're not going to find on the other systems. Those are the kinds of games that make me proud to own a Wii alongside my other systems - it's hard for me to stand behind a game like The Conduit, because it's not really a special experience and doesn't really do much to define itself outside of 'hey, we're an FPS on the Wii that isn't terrible!'.
I do like HVS. They've got a lot of soul, and I'll be looking forward to their next few projects.
"so why bash only this one?"
uh, cos this is the one being reviewed?
I couldn't be happier. I am really loving the game. HVS delivered it.
I still haven't finished single player yet though. I am on mission 8 in the lab. I was in awe at the level 7 (Homeland) in the destroyed city. It was just totally awesome. I spent my time just looking at the environment. They must of had every single tech effect going on that level and it was just pure eye candy. But, most of my time with game so far has been with multiplayer. Having so much fun. I just wish you could send invites into a private server to online friends. More specifically, if they are online, you should be able to talk to them by clicking their name to interface with Wii Speak and/or send text messages - maybe even a little IM client.
@gamerpete64
I am at that level and having a difficult time too. The AI is pretty damn good on that level and I am default difficulty.
Oh, and Nintendo's online servers need some serious hardware and software upgrades.
If you've been doing a decent job of picking up the data disks and scanning the hidden messages, you should be able to do what I did and use the unlimited ammo cheat for the last two levels. It's really handy for when you find the secret weapon caches. Beefed up deatomizer with unlimited ammo ftw.
My strategy, shoot the one coming near you then destroy the two yellow blocking things near the conduit. Run toward the table to the left of the stairs and on your way blast the third. Pick up the laser thing and use it. Rush up the stairs to the side that has the fourth yellow thing, destroy it. Then just guard that area for a abit and destroy the two disc guard things. And when you open the elevator keep your distance first. Kill the guards still in the room and then bomb the elevator and rush in.
Graphically speaking, it may lack a good art style like Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, but when it comes to the tech, the game is one of the best looking on the Wii. Voice acting is pretty good too, though I can't help but feel that Mark Shepard sometimes sounds like he's forcing that "tough guy" voice of his. I thought the story was better than what some people make it out to be, but of course it is left unfinished. Obviously a sequel will happen. My current E3 prediction for 2010 is The Conduit 2 is announced for a summer 2011 release, with a longer single player mode, and a more fleshed out multiplayer (for all we know, Conduit 2 is probably already in the planning stages). I predict The Conduit series will actually be the Wii's answer to Resistance rather than Halo (just a feeling I have, not sure why).
Anyway, haven't done multiplayer yet. I WILL get to it sometime this week though (currently I'm playing through Nuts and Bolts on the 360; thank you Rare for releasing that "larger text" patch because the original small text really pissed me off because I was hoping developers would have learned from Dead Rising that small text can cause some problems, and even more so in a text heavy game like Banjo-Kazooie).
And yes I'm enjoying the game very much as well. It's such a shame it's being reviewed by sh*theads who never play Wii and constantly compair it to COD, Halo, and Killzone 2, and their Wii-hating follwers eat up said horrible reviews.
So sad...
I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything, but something tells me you view most of 'em as horrible because they don't offer universal praise regarding the game.
Most of the reviews I've read compare the game to other big FPS titles (as if there's anything wrong with that) for maybe one or two sentences... and then proceed to give the rest of the review from a 'Wii game' standpoint.
Then again, I read the reviews. Can't say you didn't, but... did you?
Not saying you should or shouldn't enjoy the game, I don't want to be misinterpreted. I just don't understand all the review bashing around here - some of the things I hear, some of the 'reasons' as to why folks say certain reviews suck... they're pretty contrived. Then again, so are some of the reviews themselves, but not to the level that some of y'all are claiming.
there are a few of you here, but most people just call it "average" or "just plain crap"
HELLO? HEY, IS HALO THERE? YEA?
THEN WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
if anybody hates the conduit and likes halo, he needs to get stabbed, halo was only good because of its controls.
so if conduit is only good because of its controls, why does IT suck?
i should also note that halo had a much more predictable story than the conduit, unless im the only person who doesnt watch the scifi channel, because i didnt ever think the game would end like that. on top of that, at least the freaking drudge weapons looked like weapons, not the children's toys on halo, seriously, i refused to use covanant weapons, solely based on the fact that they belong in the babys r us. the enemies werent that varied either...hrmmm, the game was easy too, and about the only thing it had that the conduit doesnt is vehicles.
