A portion of a Nintendo Power interview with Miyamoto...

NP: And, of course, I have to ask: have you given any thought to putting a new Kid Icarus game on Wii or DS?

Miyamoto: Wait, please. I'm really surprised how popular that is. But you are the first person to ask at this E3!

Well, telling us to wait is the easiest way to keep us quiet. That way, if/when a new Kid Icarus is announced, we can say that Miyamoto was right! Thanks to Joel for the heads up!

This last line confused me more than anything else, really. Methinks something got scrambled in translation.

The Duck Has Spoken.

Well, this is cryptic enough to keep the hopes up while still having it be a surprise when they do unveil it.

Good job, Miyamoto-san.

Nintendo has a lot on their plate right now. They have the most popular console and handheld out right now, they've ushered in a whole new casual/family gaming boom and they're expected to still meet the demands of the diehard Nintendo fans. With all that we know is coming, I can relax knowing that this game can/will come when the time is right.

OMFG

Idk but a 'wait' is the last response I would expect, I was expecting more of a 'I can confirm or not if there is a game in development' or something, I AM HYPED.

sry kid icarus fan =D

Wait, please. Wait until we have obtained the full Kid Icarus Wii source code from the recently closed studio, Factor 5.

@Scarpine

yea I have a feeling thats what he means by 'wait' if the whole factor 5 thing is true, they probably have to restart development or pick up from where factor 5 left off

Not to be nit-picky, but I would hate if they use a realistic looking pit, young or old, kinda prefer the anime look he has in Brawl.

And I'm not even a big fan of anime, just a semi fan

honestly, Kid Icarus is the last piece of the puzzle for me and the Wii.

if they come out with a Kid Icarus game and it's GOOD - I think the Wii will have cemented itself as my favorite console of all time.

... just sayin'.

"Wait" certainly sounds better than "I can't confirm anything" (or the such). But it would've been nicer for more.

I'm pretty sure we can interpret the situation to be something along the lines of, this is a thing Miyamoto really shouldn't have said because he more or less confirmed it but he's Miyamoto and can say whatever he wants so he did it anyway.

I remember when he talked about fencing in Mario & Sonic before it was announced, and he said something like "I don't know if I should be talking about this, so sorry, SEGA!" and kept going anyway. No one can stop the man.

Even if he didn't confirm it, he at least confirmed that he knows about the public demand for it, so Nintendo itself must know, meaning they are likely to start developing one if they hadn't already.

If it had been under development, Miyamoto would have no reason to hide it. My opinion is that Kid Icarus hasnot started being developed yet, or is at very first stages.

Sakurai said that it's gonna be a very special, unique game. While Kid Icarus sounds like it's going to be really fine (although I don't like the first) it certainly is not as unique as to be called unique by its developer.

A new adventure or platforming game is certainly something for me. Still, he is surprised how popular that is (hope he loved the original though), but he is already aware of the popularity of the Mother franchise in western countries.

I feel that they need to make a new Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Balloon Fight and a new classic Star Fox. Maybe a normal ExciteBike instead of this ExciteCrap we keep getting.

Not because I want all of them (though I know I'd want the first 3), but because I feel like they really need to make the Wii become the next NES. And what better way than to have it be a mirror? We got a new Punch Out!!, 3 traditional Mario titles, a side-scrolling Metroid coming... all the nostalgia nods are really awesome for longtime fans, and they will eat that crap up, because it's awesome.

I may be alone in this, but I actually mainly buy Animal Crossing games for the Nintendo-based items and stuff. D:

Damage control...Miyamoto style. He said the same thing about Pikmin and we haven't seen squat of that.

Nintendo is richer than ever, surely that should make them more efficient?

Guess not.

Miyamoto did say the development team was very small, due to NSMBW, Galaxy 2, S&P 2, EO2, and many other games taking up recorces. I would expect it to be officially unveiled nxt E3, when Nintendo has more people avaliable to work on the game.

@blablabla

That game has been up in the air for a long time. It keeps appearing on Japanese Release Charts, but never releases when it's supposed to. It's extremely unlikely it will release this year, like the Release Charts said. Personally, I think Nintendo keeps forgetting about the game and its small developement team, which is why process is coming along slowly.

As for the article itself, this increases my hope that Kid Icarus Wii exists, or will exist eventually. I think the earliest we would see Kid Icarus on Wii, and Pikmin 3 and Kirby Wii for that matter is at their October Conference. I have a strong feeling that at least one of those three will show up.

ExciteBots is amazing. Oh well, some people don't like the craziness, I guess. You should just ask for F-Zero since that'll actually happen.

Sora's game is supposed to be a new IP and something unique.

Do people really want a new Kid Icarus? I played the original on VC and compared to Metroid, or even Zelda II, it's nothing. It's probably because of his Brawl appearence. I bet if the Ice Climbers had received a lot of attention with their inclusion in Melee, then everybody would clamor for a new Ice Climbers title. I just want a new F-ZERO with, maybe, Captain Falcon beat-'em-up sections. That would be epic beyond words.

@MoldyClay

No you're not the only one. City Folk was my first AC game and the only time I turn it on is to see if I'm able to get any Nintendo related items.

Maybe this'll motivate me to beat the game, or at the very least, beat World 1!

I totally agree with wanting the Wii to be the next NES.

Not from the popularity standpoint (I could care less), but if they bring experiences like what I found with my NES, I'm more than happy with that.

I also agree with Kid Icarus being one of the "last" pieces of the puzzle.

@Blue_Falcon

Dude, Kid Icarus is fun and stands on it's own as a cult classic. It's unforgivingly hard, but it introduces some great elements, and many Nintendo fans have like the character and elements long before Brawl.

If that was the case, we'd hear people clamoring for Wii R.O.B. if character inclusion in that game is all it takes.

wait means what exactly? is he saying that one is on the way...at some point?

watch them turn it into a cartoon that is easy for everyone to play...i don't even want to hear that. i don't care if that's what they do, i just don't want to hear about it. i'll feel like a 12 year old when i put my fingers in my ears and sing loudly, "LA-LA-LA-LA-LA!!!" don't make me do that nintendo....

I am convinced we're never seeing a console Kirby again. Gamecube didn't provide, and the Kirby Wii title has gone to development hell. It's not coming out. It's Stage Debut.

Though I agree that it would be necessary for a full experience. Though I feel now that it should be done in hand-drawn 2D instead of 3D.

@Lyude77

I love crazy stuff. I love Tingle, Katamari Damacy, strange crap like that. I just feel like ExciteBots is not what we're looking for. Excite isn't the franchise we want. ExciteBike is. I feel that name holds more value to gamers than just EXCITESOMETHING.

@Dr_Peace

I really wish/hope that isn't the case, but the chances are amazing that it is. D:

@PsychoDuck

I have a feeling the entire thing was lost in translation, mostly the "wait, please".

I just really have zero faith in a Kid Icarus revival, nor do I want to see it over something like a proper new Star Fox, Donkey Kong, or even F-Zero entry.
