"Every responsible member of the video games industry needs to step up and play as active a role as we can to keep this education process front of mind. It’s ELSPA’s job to corral the industry around this agenda and ensure we’re all doing everything we can reasonably do.” - Regional director of Xbox in the UK Neil Thompson

Mr. Thompson is definitely right. Everyone involved with the game industry needs to do their part in spreading the world on video games. We need to show people what is really going on here, instead of letting them latch onto old stereotypes that were never true in the first place.

Maybe not Microsoft's console (because it's a multimedia device) but the Wii is. I don't mean that offensively because you play with consoles.

"Mr. Thompson is definitely right."

I never thought I'd see THAT on a gaming website.

IDK. In a way videogames are a toy because you do play with them but there not because they ply completly different from other toys.

Video games, as well as all entertainment, fall into one of the definitions of "toy".

I think "aren't just toys" would be more accurate. In other words, they are toys, but they can teach you stuff.

Last time I checked, video games ARE toys. Heck, you play GAMES on them. At the very least, you should. Stop pretending video games are something they are not.

Games are toys, but that doesn't mean that some of these toys are meant for kids. Hell, I've seen some non-video game toys that aren't for kids at all :P

I don't know if games are toys, but I think they should be. Really, I liked the industry so much more when it was aimed more towards kids and less towards the mature crowd.

But that's why I'm a Nintendo gamer; it's the console with a more kiddie games. And I like that.

@Klonoa

What made the NES-N64 funner though was the 3rd party developers more towards kids. Like Banjo-Kazooie.

You guys need to watch some MovieBob.

Videogames are TOYS.

You can't even use the multimedia defense either, some toys integrate the usage of a computer or MP3 player these days.

Let's put it this way, a football is a toy and yet people are paid millions to play with it in front of millions of people.

Parents are still going ignore it and say it is a toy. I mean parents are giving their babies and toddlers the Wii.

Most games are pretty much simulated sports. Sports aren't toys themselves, but the tools used to play them definitely are.

Now, when it comes to some games... It becomes more vague. I'm not sure, for instance, if there is a goal or a competition in something like ICO... So is it a toy?

I don't care.
