I haven't seen the commercial on TV yet, but I've got to say I like what I see. Nintendo needs to start pushing this game to the masses more, and this ad seems like a big step in the right direction.
That was an awesome commercial. I love how they transition from looking at the game through the TV to looking at real life from inside the game. Very creative.
My guess is because basketball is the most popular of the 12 sports here in America. But yeah, it's not one of the strongest games in the bunch. Still pretty fun though.
Nintendo of America has seriously stepped their marketing skills up this generation. Just look at their commercials for the "casual" line-up so far. Wii Fit, Wii Music, and now Wii Sports Resort have had stellar commercials that really captured the general feeling of being really fun and super accessible.
Bad commercial IMO. More ticked off Wii owners when they get the game home and then realize, "WHAT! We need TWO WM+?!". I think the commercial should clarify that instead of just showing two people flailing wildly...
I'm sooo glad they're advertising THIS game like they did with Excitebots!
Ever wonder what the back of an Archery target looks like? BAM there it is.
Sorry I had to...
I'm liking this commercial....but the game is going to sell by the truck-loads regardless of the marketing. While I was buying my copy at EB games on Sunday they sold about 3 other copies while I was in there. I haven't seen that happen since Brawl or Call of Duty.
Good answer, but i did known that. It was more a Qustion for Nintendo wich will never be answered. For once that good game (not perfect) could come here. i would have bought those.
Excitebots ase good as it is, it look too much like excite truck to me. They did a childish looking take on excitetruck. By the way, i play excitetruck often
Well, they did say why those games aren't coming to the US but to some their reasons are BS.. me, I just don't care enough about those games to be upset about it.
It may look childish...but it plays GREAT! I really think this is one of the games that shows how creative developers can be...in general and with using the Wii remote in games.
That's a silly question. Always the traditional gamers say 'Nintendo always gives 'casual' games more advertising' then when you are evaluating if a game is casual you say 'it can't be: Nintendo didn't advertise it as much!'
Just evaluate based on the facts instead of preconceived notions.
I don't think is that silly.. plus I think you read too much into it.
I just notice that indeed Nintendo gives casual titles more advertisement, if not exclusively to the ones that are published and developed by them.
8 bit and I were discussing wether Excitebots was a core game or a casual one and both agreed that while it was a core franchise it felt more like a casual experience. The only difference is that Excitebots wasn't developed by Nintendo.. hence my question.

Agreed. Maybe because Nintendo didn't develop it with one of their A teams, the game wasn't given AAA advertising.
We can only guess as much... But the Excite-franchise isn't as big and important as many other Nintendo franchises.
Excitetrucks probably got pushed just for being a launch title...
Definitely subjective. But in Excitebots: Trick Racing, the way you win a race is by having the most points, not necessarily finishing in first place during the race.
In Excitebots you are encouraged to constantly be doing tricks while racing and you are awarded points accordingly.
My wife has played Mario Kart without any problems, Excitebots not so much.

Um... what?
And why would they go and highlight basketball?
WSR is quickly becoming my favorite summer game! \;D/

Camera is all over the place.
Could have been executed better.
Swordplay in particular looks like random 2 player waggle. I kind of chuckled at that, because they are probably misrepresenting it.
VERY NICE considering Nintendo's marketing team severely underwhelms in the commercial department (and just about everything else).
Nice throwback to Wii Fit.
But of course the girl had to win against the guy. Standard protocol. -_- Stupid men.
*takes a second to think, then stops halfway through*
I've got it! Even Nintendo's in on the conspiracy to take the Wii down now. Biased bastards.
Oh and they could be spending some bucks advertising their core games instead of building artificial beaches on the middle of New York.
That would be the logical thing to do. They're obviously abandoning the hardcore crowd.
Wow. I haven't seen you in a long time. Where have you been at!?
To stay on topic, I actually liked the commercial a lot. Pretty creative if you ask me.

In Europe..

Kind of like Excitebots is here in the US, but not over there.

Just got the game yesterday... really cool! It's even more tiring than Wii Sports, though.
@MrBubbles
So now Excitebots is core? XD
Isn't it? I mean, games that carry the "excite" name have been on Nintendo platforms since the NES.
Mr. Bubbles was probably making another "Nintendo abandons the core" comment. As I see it, both games can be seen as "casual" (vs. "hardcore"), so...
Yeah, I meant in the sense that is a core franchise..
But agreeing with Mr.Bubbles in a way.. if Excitebots was intended to be aimed at the casual market, why didn't it recived as much advertising?
I would say Excitebots is more core than casual...Mario Kart would be more casual IMO.

@coffeewithchess
Well, it's subjective. But both games are racers with trick racing... so IMO they are in the same league.
Just the art style isn't enough for one to be "casual" and the other "core". Again, IMO.
