Vicarious Visions always seems to impress.
Too bad I'm over the whole Band games now at this point.

I still haven't bought a console version of Guitar Hero yet (lol GHOT being my first GH game)...
July 31, 2009 at 5:31 pm
Interesting features... whether they will work / be worth getting excited about is another matter, but it's nice to see Vicarious Visions keeping the Wii version in-line with the other consoles.
July 31, 2009 at 5:34 pm
sounds nice, ill probably grab this... but rockband beatles is first on the list.
July 31, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Hopefully Nintendo follow's Guitar Hero's example and drops those damn friend codes.
Wishful thinking, I know.

I wasn't too excited for this game, but some of these new features have caught my interest.

"IGN: Now… I don't want to get this one wrong, but there's something going on with Friend Codes this time around, right? Or should I say "not" going on with friend codes?
Karthik: Yes. No in-game Friend Codes!
For GH5, we've implemented support for your global Wii Friend Codes. If you've got friends in your Wii address book, they'll automatically be added to your friends list in game, so you can easily connect up with them in online multiplayer games. It's much easier to maintain a single list of friends on your Wii that you only have to enter once and use that address book directly in-game for invites, etc."
Hmm... Interesting.

Excuse me? Vicarious Visions have a rep for screwing with the Wii versions of GH games. Where did they impress you? Besides if all they do is port Budcat's PS2 graphics over then I'd imagine they'd have the free time to do this.
Anyway I'm done with GH.
@Jet Pilot
This. They may have screwed us with RB1 but they totally made-up for it.

the only thing was the sound issue on gh3 which they remedied...otherwise they pack the wii versions with as much content or more than the other versions, there is no "rep for screwing with the wii versions of GH" at all.

I'm talking about Vicarious Visions and their impressive tech at work with Nintendo consoles in general. VV managed to screw up the audio in GH3 and you go calling their whole GH Wii games heresy.

Isn't it the same as The Conduit?
The problem comes, that this wasn't a standard when Wii launched, so the whole Wii code seems unimportant.
I don't have a single Wii friend.

Too bad I stopped liking music games ever since Guitar Hero 3. Oh well, best of luck to them.
July 31, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Vicarious Visions is starting to get a reputation of pioneering what's possible with a Wii game. First with Guitar Hero World Tour and now with this. This might be the first music band game I get.
July 31, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Dman, that's cool.
VV should make more Wii games. They rock. One of the best Wii devs out there.

see I told you guys that twitter account was real...and I also said in the comment section of that post that IGN would have the reveal on this. Called it!

What I actually like the most is the DS connectivity. The portable-console connection should be big feature right now, especially since they don't need the bothersome cables of GBA-GCN, and the touchscreen could be more useful and precise than a pointer in some instances. Is a shame that the feature was basically dropped by the industry after the critic (it was not the right time to throw the feature I suppose) in the past generation, I hope more companies see this oppportunity.
July 31, 2009 at 9:20 pm
i'm sick of haering that this game has the worst setlist yet. I think its amazing! White Stripes and Eagles of Death Metal FTW!!
July 31, 2009 at 10:17 pm
Wow. That is a laundry list of great features for the Wii version. I'd have to say this game will be more feature-rich on the Wii than the HD consoles (as it should be...considering the Wii sells the most copies of Guitar Hero).
VV/Activision is really stepping it up. I still hate Activision, though.

So you're saying that GHWT was a masterpiece? I had no clue PS2 ports was a pioneering factor. Same with only connecting 2 Wiis in a game that can have up to 8 players. And having DLC that has a 200 block limit! I'm happy they addressed the last two but they just keep screwing-up with these issues.

I'm in the club of being burnt out on music games, and I've barely played any except Guitar Hero III and World Tour.
Though I still am interested in The Beatles: Rock Band. Looks awesome!

I believe you have Harmonix and VV as Harmonix has given Wii nothing but crappy re-hashes or featureless ports while VV has pushed the bar everytime.

You seem to have forgot Rock Band 2... The best music game out there for Wii.
The thing is that VV might be trying harder, but their end result still isn't good enough due to the lacking ability of Neversoft, and the decline in quality of the Guitar Hero series.
And to all that have never played GH2 - Go play it. It's the best in the series, most likely due to the fact that Harmonix made it.

You mean the company who screwed up with the original RB but since then has made-up for it with RB2. That game that doesn't have a 200 block limit on DLC and pumps tons out, has instruments that we don't need to buy multiple Wiimotes to play full band, ect.
While GH3 was better than RB, RB2 was better than GHWT and all the later GHs. Incase nobody has noticed Neversoft has used
It annoys me that you people keep saying that VV pushes the Wii and then when I point out the flawed logic you just ignore that and say VV pushes the Wii.

What are you on about? The wii version of the game actually has MORE features than the other versions, it's a great game.
@Sam
Oh yes, the wonderful RB2, a game so good that GH5 will be out before it's released in Europe. I really hate the RB franchise.

I've got Guitar Hero: WT and Rock Band 2, using the GH instruments for RB2. I've already got GH5 on reserve (I get 2 free downloadable songs), and I was really excited when I found out it has A Perfect Circle, one of my favorite bands. It's awesome that they somehow managed to do away with friend codes. I wonder if they were able to do that using Nintendo's WFC or whether Activision now has their own online service like EA?

Because VV is still bringing new stuff to the Wii. We don't know when RB will be back on Wii (there is Beatles RB, but it sounds crappy besides being a Beatles game and having multiples vocals) and if it'll have the improvements GH5 is bringing, like no fcs, direct data stream, better graphics, DS connectivity and stuff. RB is a better game by design (better songs, better camera work, more accessible gameplay) - except for the DLC, which is better nonetheless -, but the one that truly innovate on Wii is VV. They brought SD-loadable DLC first, they made a complete port for Wii for the first time in the console's history (even with extra content), they made an exclusive mode for the Wii, and each version gets loads of new features and improvements even over the main versions.
VV deserves much more praise than Harmonix, if only for treating Wii owners as equals, and even making the Wii version more complete due to selling better. Late outsourced version with same features and tech copied from another company doesn't impress me.

@dunnace
I feel sorry for you. You're really missing out.
And to everyone else, this argument is going nowhere. I'm not gonna convince you that RB is better than GH, and vice versa. So have fun with your 12 songs a month, I'll be playing Rock Band.

Does Mii Free Style honestly make it have more features than the other versions that have Line 6, all DLC, DLC PACKS, and Create A Gig? And don't blame Harmonix. Blame EA.
@dandancc
But you're missing the point. Harmonix got it right with RB2. It didn't have the issues that GHWT had. And it only beat RB to the DLC because the game came out a month or two early. And if you're gonna mention the DLC do you want me to mention the fact RB is giving the Wii owners ALL the DLC they gave the last consoles instead of just giving them some of the new DLC like GH. Not only that but with DLC I've never seen RB put Wii owners in a situation they couldn't get the songs, whereas GH had it for a while where we couldn't get any of the Hendrix songs and never got Metallica's full album. Looking at innovation what look's better. The gap between RB and RB2 on Wii or the gap between GH3 and GHWT? In the end RB wins that one and it seems they'll even win against a GH3 to GH5 gap. Don't use that Mii Freestyle for some improvements. And it's funny you mention that last paragraph as a sort of burn toward RB1 but isn't that what GHWT was just that you were so enraged by RB1 you held a grudge? Or maybe you never saw the PS2 version of GHWT which was near identical.
@Sam
This. RB let's you choose from a vast amount of songs. They don't just give you 3 songs a week which usually are just random European band tracks.

It's funny. By the time it took them to get things right the game is stale.
August 3, 2009 at 7:01 am
@Artistic_Anarchy
Yeah. It'll probably have the TBRB engine where there's three vocalists. Hopefully they'll patch the old RB1/2/DLC songs with this feature. Linkin Park songs would be way better.

Great to see more developers ONLY using the Wii Number, instead of using more friend codes.
That's my only opinion on this newstory.

Too bad Guitar Hero's kinda stale.
Let's see what features they can add to the actual gameplay.
