There was hope that they would decide to make Jhoto a better region, instead of shoehorning in the previous region again. G/S felt like 2 half regions (kanto being a gimped version of its former self), instead of one whole one.
I must have played a different game from everyone else then. I was way more than satisfied with the scale of Gold/Silver/Crystal. It was one of the best parts.
It was expected, although I hope they actually add onto Kanto. There were so many places that were closed off and the cave areas were dumbed down severely. I remember playing through the game, not knowing that I could never access certain blocked off areas.
I never seen anyone displeased with the fact the game had 2 regions. Johto was a whole region, but I agree that the kanto journey was mostly uneventfull, but it was still good.
The magnet train takes people from Goldenrod city (johto) to Saffron city (kanto). unless they changed it any bit, that pratically tells us that we're going to kanto.
I think people (including me) were worried, because it was such a massive part of the game, yet not a soul from GameFreak mentioned it. And I didn't know about that berserk gene. Darnitall, why'd I have to run out of savespace?! Also, what is a berserk gene? (I don't feel like usin' google.)
Nice to see a confirmation, though I was pretty sure it'd be in anyway.
Now all I hope is they beef it up a lot. It felt very half-assed in the original. Many of the routes and towns were half the size of the original, and some of the better places (i.e. Safari Zone, Cerulean Cave...) were blocked off.
And on as similar, (much) more unlikely note, maybe include playable versions of Hoenn and Sinnoh?... I can dream.
Agreed, Johto was freaking huge and the other innovations (real-time clock and more) gave it so much more depth. I was already content with what the game had to offer and Kanto was just the icing on the cake.
I never thought of the Kanto region as being dumbed down (which it was), more an extra that gave you new foes, Pokemon and the awesome ability to see how the world had changed in 3 years.
Oh my God, Dr. Peace! Thank you for that song! It never occurred to me that the music from the old G/S/C games were going to be remade for these new games!!!
I'M SO EXCITED!!!
Also, Kanto was a fun, exciting treat after beating G/S/C. I had no idea I'd be revisiting Kanto! :]
In game clues. FireRed/LeafGreen make references to Hoenn and something regarding that, while Diamond/Pearl has a TV report about Red Gyarados, which they mistake for the lake(s) in Sinnoh, but it was the Lake of Rage. Not to mention it being heavily influenced by the games (hell, GS got Crystal and DP got Platinum. Those names belong in the opposite sets) and Jasmine from Olivine City gym.
It's never flat out said, but it's hinted at in FR/LG (about RSE) and in D/P (about GSC).
I can't remember what else there wad. The FRLG ones are after you get access to Sevii Islands or something.
EDIT: I would try finding if anything outside the games officially announced it, but right now I would be unable to provide a link anyway. Both of our computers are dead and I have to use the Wii for right now. D:
Then you let nostalgia blind you, as do most people it seems. Kanto was an empty, soulless place to revisit; this could have been forgiven, if not for the fact Jhoto was an inferior region compared to Kanto.
Gold and Silver were not the perfect game most of you pretend it to be.
Kanto was an extra. Battle places are all any other game got in addition. And Sevii Islands.
Gold/Silver had a whole region, then an abridged Kanto and had 16 gyms, Elite Four and Red.
It had far more features, new ways to do things, introduced so much that the series continues to use, including types/items/moves and so on.
Gold/Silver did EVERYTHING Red/Blue did and did it better, whether you are nostalgic or not.
If you're going to peg GS with nostalgia, then you'd be stupid to think pretty much half of the games everyone thinks is amazing by Nintendo are liked for anything other than nostalgia as well.
I think Pokemon has become too asian themed for my liking. Just like asian foods in the west have become westernised, I think they need to westernise pokemon a bit (like it used to be back in blue and red days).

@bellboy
somewhat, since all of the previews talked about only things in the johto region, thats probably to be expected though.

@bellboy
Agreed. that was probably the biggest reason why I liked the GSC series more than any other to date.
@MushroomVigilante
was the cave to mewtwo blocked? I cant remember. I would expect that to be open since mewtwo is rumored to be obtainable.
It was blocked off, but there was a Berserk Gene left in the waters in front of the cave. I'm hoping it will return.
Also, what is a berserk gene? (I don't feel like usin' google.)
On a completely unrelated note, man World of Goo is addicting. o_o

Sinnoh is 100% no.
Diamond/Pearl takes place DURING Gold/Silver. Likewise, Ruby/Sapphire is during Red/Blue.
@Kirbylol
Lies. I doubt anyone wanted to get rid of Kanto. Everyone wants old regions to return for some reason (they wanted Johto or Hoenn in DP).
And Johto was no half region. I don't know what you're talking about.
A seiyuu, singer, idol, ... with lots of TV appearances.

Gold/Silver remake + Mewtwo + Kanto = Me on a leash. Damn.
@Mortimitus
The Berserk Gene was a hold item that raised attack power but left the Pokemon confused (with much rage!). It was a bit useless.

This song pretty much says it all.

Wait, where did you hear that Diamond/Pearl takes place during Gold/Silver or that Ruby/Saphire takes place during Red/Blue? Link please?
