To my knowledge, Super Mario Collection is what Super Mario All-Stars was called in Japan. Maybe it'll finally hit the VC, or perhaps something else is in store.

Yikes: put 'This is my theory' first next time yo! lol Got me excited. Doubt what you are saying is true: it would be flushing revenue down the drain - Nintendo don't do that.
Though I honestly doubt they'd do anything to remake or re-release it since it would cut into sales of SMB 1-3, Lost Levels, and World on the Virtual Console. Nintendo would lose a lot of money on an All-Stars remake or re-release.
Yes, how dare Nintendo for trying to make money off their Virtual Console service!
And how dare we question Nintendo if they are going to make money by ripping off consumers! Our Nintendo overlords will not be pleased...oh shoot, I've said too much! AAUUkjlgf--
A DS "remake" would be a serious cash-in and wouldn't hinder many VC sales. Besides, it would be full price and people that would otherwise only buy one or two games would buy all (paying more). I think it is a win situation for Nintendo, and one that they would be really inclined to do.
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros. - The Lost Levels
Hope this arrives on VC.
If they made a disc based 'new' version of All-Stars, it would make more money than the VC sales AND be so different that nostalgia hungry folk would still buy the VC editions.
@Burgers
How dare you dare that we dare! I just don't see how the original VC versions can completely equal the remade All-Stars versions for people... they are different: one is enhanced and the other is pure original. Not the same experience, at least not for me. Having access to all of them makes sense. Anybody who feels that AllStars is 'the same' as the originals probably didn't grow up with them, or maybe just doesn't value the difference the same way I do, I guess. No harm there.
But please Burgers, remember, Nintendo is making money off putting things people want up for sale. It's how they measure success as a company, not by how happy they make people. They -use- making people happy to make money. It's not Santa Claus, its not a magic 'happiness tree,' its a company that sells fun to us people who crave it. If you think it is 'evil' for them to release the original games on VC and then two years later to release the enhanced later versions of them in one package (which they might not even be doing who knows what this trademarking means) then you have your standards for corporate niceness set too high, and will be emotionally hurt time and time again by things that aren't bad at all.
@Garfitor
Salivates at the thought....
Actually the version I have also has Super Mario World included which is even better.
Was I challengin Nitendo as a business? No. But that doens't mean I have to blindly agree and support every decision they make.
Why didn't they just release SMAll-Star since the begining? I may be talking ahead of myself here, but if they do decide the release it now, it at least has to be as much as it would take to buy all Mario games in it.. otherwise is like plain robbing the people who have bought every title it has.
Get off your high horse and make some decisions of your own, not because Nintendo says so, fanboy.
That version of Super Mario World also has Luigi sprites used (incomplete) in it. I could swear Luigi also had his "features" but the internet doesn't mention it.
Woah: don't have to call him a fanboy. I agree he can come off as harsh sometimes, but its largely because he correctly understands that Nintendo are running a business.
The thing is: releasing Super Mario AllStars from the beginning would have a) cut into their top sellers on VC and been STUPID. Just plain stupid. b) really be unfair to the legions of people who were excited to play the ORIGINALS of games they grew up with loving or had only played through updated ports.
If you don't see any difference between the originals and the updated ports, I respectfully don't understand your position.
---
And Burgers, and Nero, and people who think that folks like Kirbylol or I are mindlessly defending Nintendo: please understand it is not just our love of Nintendo, but our appreciation of them as a company and not as a magical happiness tree, that leads us to take a different stand than many others.
I just also think it's -really- unfair to say they are 'milking' fans for putting out the originals of these games and then =-potentially-= putting out AllStars YEARS later. Sure, if they had put up allstars first and none of the others, then AllStars would have been the number one VC game for three years straight, but they would lose LOTS of money.
SMB-$5
SMB2- $5
SMB3- $5
SMB - Lost Levels - $6
SMW - $8
----------
$29 for all original versions of these games.
SMB-AS - $8
----------
The argument that Nintendo can 'afford' to take losses by a) putting out games that won't sell b) throwing away parts of their revenue c) doing other things fans want that won't make them money or would lose them huge amounts of money just shows that you don't really get why Nintendo have the highest employee to profit ratio in the world.
THAT is one more aspect of Nintendo's genius: being one of the most successful companies in the world with the least amount of employees. That makes them a lot of money. If they would have lost a little money here, a little money there, a little money on this, a little on that, they would not be in a position to develop new ideas or be one of the powerhouse companies in the world.
They -never- 'milk' their customers the way GH5/Band Hero/3 DS GH's in a year type strategies do. They try to give people things they want in exchange for money, and unlike most companies openly admit their mistakes. Some things that displease me personally, like not getting some games, etc., displease me personally but I can't honestly think 'Nintendo should lose money so that I get what I want,' i think 'sucks that doing what I want is a bad move, because I -really- wanted that.' It sounds like I am defending the sucky thing when really I just have to admit that 'the thing I want would be a bad move.'
I don't think I was that harsh, considering many, MANY! of his past posts.
And maybe I am missing something, but the only different thing I notice of All-Stars is having re-done sprites.. Not that much of an incentive or warrants a purchase now really.
Refresh my memory.
I didn't think you were harsh just reacting to the wrong thing. It isn't his blind love of Nintendo, its his understanding of the reasons. To act like Nintendo are a big faceless, customer-screwing over company for this is wrong.
He just takes the position he does out of understanding why it is happening. Calling Nintendo 'overlords' as Burgers has done is being, not -deliberately- silly, but shows a marked unwillingness to perceive the situation on a rational level.
And yes, you are right as far as I remember the ability to save your game and redone graphics is the main difference, if not the only difference in AllStars so acting like you need to rebuy it if you already have the originals is silly. Acting like Nintendo "need" to price this at $29 to be 'fair' is being unfair.
Look at it this way: people who already have the older ones won't need to buy this if they aren't completionist nerds and people who buy this who also buy the older ones are completionist nerds who would have gotten it all anyway.
So basically yes, we do remember the game as it is.. so I re-state that is not incentive enough to get it now.
The thing is that if I was given the option of either getting each game separately or getting them all-in-one, I would've gotten All-Stars.. for the right price, of course. But to release it now and for much less than what it costs to get all games in it is really taking advantage of some or many customers.
I know Nintendo is just being a business, but there also other ways in which I can support them that don't come off as taking advantage of me.
I can understand your reasoning it just seems odd to expect Nintendo to shoot themselves in the foot like that. It's asking too much, in my opinion, to think they would have put up AllStars the third week the VC was out and not any of the other games.
To be honest I wasn't expecting them to release it at all... by my way of thinking of course.
I know, I don't think its going to be for VC honestly. I think this might be a DS project like someone suggested or even something else crazier! I agree with you there... the easiest answer to the riddle of this trademarking is that it will be on VC but I suspect something less expected and more interesting will be the result.
We shall see, my brother, we shall see!
I won't buy it if it's for the VC, because I enjoy the original versions of SMB1 and 3 more (honestly, I think the mechanics in 3 might be slightly different than the original, and playing 1 without the original sprites is awkward imo).
