Ugh, this is stupid.
Kotick is a tw**, yes. But he runs a business. Why does he run a business? To get money. He's not lying when he says he would like more. He's a greedy arsehole, but he's telling the truth.
If I was him, I'd certainly be thinking the same. I just wouldn't be thinking out loud.

WAIT A MINUTE WAIT A MINUTE WAIT A MINUTE.
All other news reports I've seen hint that this may have been just a little humor.
Let's hope that's all it is.

Yeah, the comment was a joke, apparently. I can't think of any Activision titles I've bought recently or am planning to buy, so eh.
Edit: @sba sb3002
But this is a GAMING EMERGENCY.

Yeh, I assumed when I heard the statement it was just a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour.
Since when were Activision leading the industry in terms of price and whatnot anyway?

I know, just posting that to clarify for anyone who hadn't read the report, since no one else before me did.

... I care not for your boycott. Seriosuly, I want Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I want Diablo 3. I want GH5 and all the rest. Boycotting these guys is ridiculous, especially Blizzard products.
And people will sell games to get new games regardless. The new DLC at launch is always rubbish and the continuous DLC is nice but won't hold the consumer, especially when shiny new game #5 comes out.
You want to really scare Activision? Only buy their games second hand. That'll scare them more than a boycott done by about 200 people.
The quote was also made in joking...

This guy is an idiot. I feel like going out and buying Activision games just to spite him.

Boycotting Activision is impossible.
You mean to tell me you're asking millions of World of Warcraft players to stop playing and cancel their subscriptions.
Good luck with that.

@thisboywillbreak
I can understand that, but I find it hard to believe that any one company could really make all that much difference. Usually in each generation the price point for new software gets set pretty early, and only really changes once the system starts to decline.
I guess I could see if bumping up the price worked for Activision then other companies would figure they might as well do it too, but to be honest I think price point is a lot more important to consumers than a lot of companies realise.
Of course, this is totally all just personal opinion
-EDIT-
And also, I just recently started playing Warcraft. Forget this boycott, ain't no way I'm goin cold turkey now!

Lol boycott the call of duty games, lol that's f*** hilarious. World at war has sold over 14 million copies. Does activision really give a s*** if thousands of gamers boycott? I think not.
August 8, 2009 at 5:29 pm
I'm not going to boycott Activision. However, I will be getting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as cheap as I possibly can. Not going to accept that $60 price point.
August 8, 2009 at 6:15 pm
I plan on getting Modern Warfare 2 and Wolfenstein are the only games that I plan on getting from Activision for the rest of this year.
Only game next year is Singularity.

as painfull as that was to watch, i have to admit everytime i Kotic opens his mouth (and hate me for this if you want) I feel glad for the existense of Piracy. asholes like him totally justify it.

it all comes down to the fact that we have the rich screwing the poor again. i have no issue with CEOs making money, i have no issue with them making LOTS of money, but i do have issue with them making LOTS of money and then telling the consumer to pay even more; all the while the company in question makes cut backs and fire the grunts who work for them. that is wrong and that is BS.
i've said before, the rich don't make cut backs, it's always the little guy under them that are forced to do so.
other than 3 or 4 games (that we all can live without) what exactly does activision make that's really worth buying anyway?
i'm all for boycotting them just for their suck factor alone.
some of the UK's issues are their lametard business models, but we can talk about that later.

Thinking/saying it out loud was the worst thing Kotick could have done.
I've been boycotting Activision for largely a year now after the Ghostbusters debacle.
Maybe they'll turn around like EA did, but it's going to take a while, and most likely when World of Warcraft finally loses steam.
Sad really. As I said in an earlier post, they used to be one of my favorite publishers back in the day.

I'm already pretty much priced out of this generation of gaming as it is.
The amount of games I have actually bought new I can count on one hand.
Nope, raising prices even further is most certainly not the answer here.
Releasing games via online, which costs the developer far less and should most definitely result in far lower costs to the consumer too, is at least one approach that is far better than upping the cost of retail products even further.

Activision needed to be boycotted a long time ago, but it'll never fly as long as they have Guitar Hero and Modern Warfare.
In the meantime, they'll keep pumping out dozens of Guitar Hero clones a year, under-polished Spider-man games, $100+ Tony Hawk games with a one-off peripheral, and loads of other s*** games.

Stealing is stealing...doesn't matter if a game cost $60 or $100.
If you don't like it, don't buy their game...or like this guy is trying, do something to try and stop it.
@bearded OTP
Are you for or against national health care?
On topic again:
We can be upset with Activision's CEO, but really it's like being upset with Denise Kaigler(I'm at the top of this list) for her answers we don't like.
Yelling and screaming about it online won't change anything(that I've seen), but IF gamers could unite even a force of 10,000 gamers, all calling the companies and complaining every day, I think the companies would take notice.
Also, if this guy is upset over a company raising prices on a new game, does this mean we should be upset with companies not lowering prices on older games?
I think Nintendo SHOULD be boycotted because of their crappy and seemingly lazy approach to online gaming. I won't be buying a Nintendo game like WSR or even NSMBWii, due to the lack of online play in these games...but I'm one of the few in this crowd, so I won't have much of an impact.

Keeping your fanbase happy and maintaining your reputation is still as much important as making money. Angering your fans will lead to less sales down the road.

And wow, you are sounding like a retard right about now. Just because they don't focus on PC gaming values doesn't make them "lazy", it makes them a console maker.
How did you ever get to become a mod on a Nintendo site to begin with?

@Kirbylol
I should clarify for you since you didn't read the whole statement or seeming to understand it...Nintendo games that LACK online play should be boycotted, IN MY OPINION.
Consoles since at least the Dreamcast have supported online play...being a console doesn't mean they shouldn't support online play.
If that is the case, don't include WiFi and don't even make games that have online play...heck, restrict online to just downloads off the VC.
"How did you ever get to become a mod on a Nintendo site to begin with?"
I volunteered for it when it was asked...and I help on the forums to keep a tight ship running as Cort has always done.

I've been boycotting Activision since GH:Metallica and after hearing that 5 GH games were coming out this year. The games are boring and easy now and the market is being over saturated.
Anyways boycotting the company over some stupid comment is well... Stupid.*
*I know a lot of you are going to say that my boycotting the company is stupid too.

....uh...does this concern us in the US?
Either way, NO! Games are already expensive! I haven't bought a game in months! I myself haven't had ANY money in months because our family's source income just went zip!
Seriously! They're high enough! If you're going to raise the prices, you BETTER add more content! Because $45-50 for a Wii game sometimes is already pushing it!!!
