August 10, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: DS, Wii, Nintendo in general, DSi

“The Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, and the core PS3 SKU has not seen a price cut since October 2007. We think that the negative software trend is less attributable to a weak software line-up, and can only conclude that until consumers are sufficiently interested in buying consoles, it will be difficult for publishers alone to drive sales higher each month. ...We do not think that either Nintendo’s or Sony’s console hardware forecast figures are achievable without a price cut, and we expect one by October for the PS3 with either a price cut or a different bundle for the Wii within the same time frame. We also think the Nintendo DS will be cut to $99 from $129 with the DSi cut to $149 or lower from $169. We anticipate the PSP will be cut to $129 from $169, and the PSP Go launch price of $249 to get reduced to $199 by some time in 2010.” - Webush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter

Man, Pachter is calling for price cuts all around! How in the world does he expect these companies to make money if they're going to keep cutting prices?! I really don't think we'll see a drop for the DSi already. I mean, the system is at 7 million sold in its first year. It think that's pretty damn good for a slight upgrade from the DS Lite!

Pachter is everywhere and yet he is so continuously wrong and makes some of the most bizarre "predictions" I've ever seen.

I wish I could get paid as much as he is to be completely wrong all of the time.

Does he actually believe the crap he's spitting out?

Must be the software publishers who are cutting Pachter's cheques.

Still, he mentioned the option which is actually likely to happen. Iwata has made it very clear that he doesn't like price cuts, but new SKUs — bundles, colours, maybe even a redesign — are a great way for Nintendo to maintain revenues and meet hardware goals.

Don't be surprised to find Nintendo shipping Wii Fit or Wii Sports Resort bundles this holiday season.

Wii will need a holiday price cut to meet their goal for sure (or a new bundle), but I'm not sure if nintendo would rather make more money off of less units sold or less money off more units sold. It all really depends on how many units fly out the door at the new price point versus how many would have at the original price. The ps3 will undoubtedly see a cut this fall/holiday and the DS Lite will see a cut to $99 between now and next March or April. I doubt we'll see the DSi getting a price cut, but who knows.

I am going to bet on a new Wii Bundle for $250 that included New Super Mario Bros.

Is like I said.. something most've gone wrong in his head and he keeps repeating the same thing over and over..

Man: "Hey Patcher what did you have for lunch?"
Patcher: "We will see a Wii price cut this year..."

Well, Target already cut the price of the DS Lite from $129 down to $99. I'm not sure if other stores will follow suit.

They make plenty of money considering small companies like mine only make $3-10 profit off new systems.

IMO, it's pretty clear that Nintendo's way of meeting their goal is putting new games out...

I bet NSMBWii will be a system-seller. And I wouldn't be surprised if there was NO new bundle at all.

They'll leave the deals to the stores. I called it first. :P

Pachter's predictions are like the lottery.

There's really no chance you'll win, but you buy a ticket everyday anyway even when all your friends say you're wasting your money. Then one day you finally win the lottery and you're rolling in money and telling all your friends that you were right all along and rubbing it in their faces.

Of course the only difference is that if a Pachter won't get a million dollars. ;D

Just from the way he keeps repeating over and over again that price cuts are coming, it doesn't seem like he's making an actual prediction. It seems like his job is actually to try to influence the market so his "prediction" comes true.

Anybody can make these inaccurate predictions so he can't seriously be paid to actually analyze the market and make an accurate estimation of what will happen based on market trends and business models or whatever. If he was, he would have probably been out of a job by now.

I predict that none of them will get a Price Cut.

Logic does not apply to Sony or Nintendo. They'll keep their stuff the same price as it is until people stop buying them altogether.
