August 20, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: Wii

This is a really sucky situation, and it will most likely end up costing Wii owners their chance at Modern Warfare 2. Activision has said that if sales for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Wii are high enough, then they'll consider doing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Wii. In other words, if you aren't included in the millions upon millions of people that have already played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on 360 or PS3, you'll have to buy the Wii version if you want any hope at the sequel showing up. I'm guessing we'd get that one right when Modern Warfare 3 was hitting...

Third party fail.

"Buy this outdated lazy port and if enough people do we'll give you another outdated lazy one later."

No thanks. At least companies like Capcom have dropped the stupid 'test' mentality.

Uh no. I played MW to death on Xbox360/PS3 so don't plan on getting it. And would rather get MW2 at launch on Xbox360 then wait another just cause the controls will be better.

This sounds alot like the promise Capcom had about Umbrella Chronicles sales and we saw the results.

And people here continue to defend 3rd parties, and act like Nintendo is the devil...

This is further proof that 3rd parties treat us like second class citizens, and why things will never get better at this rate. I'm sorry Activision, but the last developer who said this ended up backing out of their deal (Capcom with a real Resident Evil game if we bought UC. They went, and green lighted a sequel instead of a real RE game).

I'll enjoy pirating MW2 on my new gaming PC as my way to say screw you!

No, because they have proof of Call of Duty selling on the Wii. WaW sold over a million copies, and it was a pretty mediocre and stripped down port. This is just them justifying their laziness or lack of care when working on the Wii.

Same people in here bithching more about good news. Sorry RMC but i have to disagree with you. Not everyone on this site(it is gonintendo ya know) owns a 360 or ps3. I dont. I could, but i dont. I said this would happen yesterday and got called ridiculous for it. You know who you are. But anyways, im excited as hell. Who cares that its coming out later? I have other third party games that i can support until it comes out. 2009 and 2010 are in no way going to be a drought. Modern Warfare on wii with all the modes and more makes me a very happy wii owner. Yes its 2 years old but one of the highest rated FPS' that we finnaly get to play. We should be thanking Treyarch for giving us something that everybody said we wouldnt get. Treyarch cares for the wii crowd instead of just leaving us out.

Oh F that, Activision. You're not bullying me into buying a game or you'll pull support. Don't give us the sequel. We don't care OR want it. We didn't even want a port of the first game.

Make a quality, from the ground up, triple A Wii title and I'll buy it, but don't try to make me buy a turd with the false promise that we could get another shoddy port if we do! I want some real f*cling games!

I'm so sick of the Wii (which has the largest install base) getting treated like it's an after thought. Make good games and nuture the Wii audience and it has the potential to out buy the other 2 console's audiences. Keep putting out crap and you won't ever have the chance.

Perhaps they should've used bigger team than 30 people? My friends are not even going to fart at this games direction, and I'm not playing (video)games with anonyme cheaters!

I'm very happy that this is happening though. I love shooting with wiimote, and Conduits underpowered weapons in online mode left me thirsty for more. 10 players would have been enough for nice team matches(and I would have had at least ten FPS-kind of friends who have Wii).

No online chatting and no features cut from HD-ready consoles? Whats that then? I think I'm useing Skype, if I manage to lure people touching this. Perhaps I could try to approach my expanded audience-kind of Wii friends. Come on Activision, push it a little! This might be your last chance on a Wii. These games really would be fun on the Wii! I (might) even prefer Wiimote over mouse and I'm never again going to downgrade into gamepads anymore. Please somebody make a undisputed Wii-FPS-masterpeace! Its a territory where Wiimote makes difference even without motion+! And make grenades work like how they work in Conduit!

This is such a bullsh*t way to spur sales. I hate when companies do this, especially on the Wii. If any game sells well, of course they are going to make a sequel and milk it for all it's worth (sequel is the key word). It's just bullsh*t when they dangle the chance of another game in front of our faces when it won't cause them to make a game if we buy it. It will just make them think about the possibility of making another game. If we don't buy it, it will definitely stop them from making a game though, that's for sure.

I'm done playing their game. Any multiplatform game that comes out I just get for my 360 now. The Wii can only get a good port at most. They will never get a great port because they will never have a fraction of the same amount of money thrown into the project, which means they will never get the same amount of effort. The Wii gets no respect and it deserves better than that.

It's mind boggling when you think that the Wii install base is practically the size of the PS3 and 360 combined, it costs less to develop a game, it costs less for consumers to buy a game, and with all those favorable ingredients together publishers are still far more scared to make a game that may bomb on the Wii than a huge budget game that bombs on two consoles.

"if you aren't included in the millions upon millions of people that have already played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on 360 or PS3, you'll have to buy the Wii version if you want any hope at the sequel showing up."

Those people who have already played it on 360/PS3 don't even care about how it sells on the Wii since they'll be playing MW2 on the 360/PS3. So of course they won't be buying it.

Besides, we are talking about 2 different audiences here, so I think we should be glad MW is coming to the Wii. Pretty much if you have a Wii and another current gen cosole, you'll probably go with the latter to play MW2 on.

The Wii audience will not be blackmailed just so as we can eventually, perhaps maybe be treated like regular customers should. Activision already have 2 very successful COD games on the system so f**k you.

Hmm. Well, most games need to be bought before the sequel comes out, so I don't understand the complaining about that. I understand that they are releasing a port of an older game that has a sequel coming out, but you didn't get the first game yet. You should be happy you get to enjoy it. Is it that you only care about the newest entries in a franchise? Also, looking at how gimped FPS games on Wii are compared to every FPS game on everything else, I find it hard to believe anyone really wants MW2 on Wii anyway. No matter how similar they try to get it, it is NOT going to be the same. Isn't the Conduit enough for you people? It has good graphics and controls for a Wii game.

What are you talking about?

COD4 has already been on the shelves for years, everyone who wanted to play it has played it, who is going to buy this?

The Wii audience already made 2 COD games a success so there shouldn't be any more tests to endure. Don't pretend that COD suddenly has some deep story because there really is no reason they can't skip the first MW and go directly to the sequel that other platforms are getting.

We would be happy...if it didn't look like complete crap at the moment. It looks like something on the PS2, the (core) online experience has taken a hit for no reason and it still remains an old game. The fact that only 30 odd people are working on a COD game should tell you they don't care.

I enjoyed The Conduit plenty, but is more than one FPS with real effort too much to ask for? No, it is in fact completely expected.

Once the PS3 Slim comes out with a $299 price tag and the Xbox 360 Elite drops to $299, they will practically be the same console. You just have to decide between better online or a Blu-ray player and of course 1st party games. When that happens, the section of the industry that wants the Wii to fail will have another reason to not develop games for it. The big companies will shift development further from the Wii predicting the rise of the PS3 and the Xbox and the death of the Wii. The Wii will still be tapped for money because they still need to finance the big budget games somehow but just through more ports, more licensed games, and more cheap to make "casual" games. When Natal and the Sony wands are released, the people who want the Wii to fail will declare the Wii dead. Sony and Microsoft will make sure the industry believes it's true. The bias against the Wii will not go away, especially since many developers despise the Wii.

As far as the Wii goes, I don't know what it's fate will be. It's going to take a long time for the PS3 and the 360 to catch up even if the Wii sales slowed to a crawl, which they probably won't because the Wii demographic is such a large range of ages compared to the others. Who knows how the Vitality Sensor will do or what else Nintendo has up their sleeve? Companies want a piece of the pie so some publishers will keep trying while others will move on.

This generation is far from over though. I don't see any company trying to release a new console any time soon although the first would be Nintendo but no sooner than 2012.

But they already made a lot of money on the sequel to Modern Warfare, World at War. There's no reason to continue defending their asinine choice, they are lying to us Wii owners to try to sell us this game, knowing full well it's an extremely bad port (the screens and info proves this) and it wouldn't sell by itself.

Quite frankly, if they are going to treat us like this, to hell with the sequel, it's not like they would try harder anyway. And don't kid yourself, why put effort into Modern Warfare 2 for the Wii if the first one sold so well despite being a turd? Buying this game will only send the message that you enjoy being used as a cheap prostitute.

So first, we hear about Modern Warfare coming out for Wii. Everyone gets super hyped, saying that it'll beat out The Conduit and be an amazing game that is not going to be a half-assed port. I say that it is going to be a half-assed port.

This week comes along, and we get our first screens. Ugly. Horrible. Horrific. Far Cry: Vengeance all over again. Score one for me.

The game is only a few months from releasing, and since those screens weren't retracted yet it most likely means they're an accurate depiction of the game so far into development. I'm sorry, but everything about the game screams laziness and cheapness. What incentive do they have to try harder on the next game, if they see success with this half-ass port?

I apologize if I seamed a bit harsh, but constantly being mistreated like this by 3rd parties will cause you to have a pessimistic viewpoint on 3rd party software, especially when they give you every reason to. Hey Activision- if you want money why don't you, what's the word- treat your customers better and actually just make a game that isn't second rate on the Wii?

Ya know what- why don't you just make a Modern Warfare from the ground up for the Wii and make it a spin-off? I'd be fine with that. Better to get a good original game than a 2 year old port everyone and their mom has already played.

Damn.
D:

I feel bad for the Wii - only crowd.

They get a port - - one that will probably be nowhere near as good as the PS3/360 version - - an entire two years later.

If you want CoD4, why wouldn't you get a 360/PS3 where the GOOD version of this game is?

@Shaanyboi

True..

First it was bithching about not getting CoD4 Wii when it launched..
Then the game finally hits the Wii and it's more b**** because it is two years later (like it would be best not to get the game at all)..
And finally a details list shows that the Wii version might have even more content than the HD ones and it's more b**** because of graphics

This is hilarious.. yeah, don't buy it if you feel hurt, we'll se if Treyarch will have it in them to make MW2 for Wii after this one flops.

I don't buy anything Craptivision anymore, sorry. Their ignorant douche mentality put me off, this being just one more example of how out of touch they are. Why don't you call it Retro Warfare, it'd be more fitting seeing as this is a port of a few years old game we're talking about that looks it's coming out on the Dreamcast (besides the smoke and fog effects, maybe)..

I've already decided that if I buy MW for the Wii, it will be used so activision does get my money.

As for MWII, it will come to the Wii no matter what.

Buy a war game in order to have the opportunity to buy another war game that is basically the same thing...

I'll pass on either. Good day, Activision, I say good day.

I laugh at you all.

Honestly think about why you're pissed.

Obviously if MW did bad on Wii they wouldn't make MW2...

What they're doing makes sense...

@Neader

Making a sequel to a game that sells well makes sense. Companies do it all the time.

Teasing a sequel before the game even comes out as a ploy to sell more copies is just pathetic and doesn't show much confidence in the game they're selling.

If you think they are just saying this to educate people on the reasons a sequel gets made, you are a fool.

BTW, F*** you Activision. I'll add you to the list of assh*le developers that I'll pirate with no guilt.

It makes no sense. WaW sold over a million, and now they're making out that THiS is a test to see if there's an audience. We already know there is!!

lol, yeah, the statement is silly, but I love how everybody is calling MWWii a crappy port, for a game that will likely look no worse than W@W, have all features intact, plus maybe new content. Only 6 less players and no voice chat. Yep, that's sooo watered down (though no Wii Speak sucks)!!

They are cutting stuff too, including the number of players online. The images alone shows just how poorly done this port is, and just further evidence that they might as well not even try.

Ok.. If having one less player on your team is a deal breaker for you, I fully understand. But don't come with the graphics argument like in the Wii graphics trully matter.

What happened to: "the Wii is about user interaction and gameplay, not graphics"??

You even said yourself:"WaW sold over a million copies, and it was a pretty mediocre and stripped down port."

So.. this is a port with allegedly even more content than WaW and you expect it to look better?

All this is is people b**** about graphics... on the Wii... and especially when talking about ports. You want better looking games or the original versions? get an HD console.

I love how there's even some masochistic twits here (HURT ME MORE ACTIVISION, YOU ARE PERFECT IN YOUR GENIUS, I AM BUT A LOWLY CUSTOMER WHO KNOWS NOTHING~ OH YES~) happily defending this bullshit. Guess there's always a few.

This whole "You guys wanted Modern Warfare you're getting it god you're so wishy washy".

If you really can't see how getting it TWO YEARS LATER, on the SAME DAY THE SEQUEL IS RELEASED, when even the DS got a damn port two years ago (and is getting a new game alongside the sequel), and it looks like serious s*** despite them having two years, you're being nothing but dense. Or being obtuse just because you have a Shambling Corporate Presence fetish and must defend their honor at all costs.

Activision can go f*** themselves, not that they aren't doing that already.

"All this is is people b**** about graphics... on the Wii... and especially when talking about ports. You want better looking games or the original versions? get an HD console. "

We could have both you know? Wii has plenty of horsepower, certainly better than this, but 30 people on a team? A lousy, cheap port of a Treyarch(I don't mind it, but it had a pretty bad reputation)game, while WW was last season and MW was cool and in, sold a million. I guess it already prowed Wii want FPS. It makes people mad that they still, after 3 years, hurry these bad quality test games on a small teams.

I wasn't talking about sales. I was talking about story. It makes more sense to come out with 'Story part 1' before 'Story part 2' on a specific platform, don't you think?

Theoretically, yes. But not many people play Call of Duty for the story. They play it for the action. So I think most people would prefer if the new one was gonna be released.

Guys we should start a boycott saying "If you want us to buy a game, at least make it decent not just some half-ass crap"
Plus if you do buy it how do not know if MW2 is not just going to be another lazy port???
