Check out this bit of censorship that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption received while being squeezed into the Metroid Prime Trilogy. I think this is just a bit silly...

Aside from the fact this video was about 40 seconds too long, the censorship is REALLY moronic and proves Nintendo doesn't see Prime as being a mature series. I mean really, the word DAMN is that horrible Nintendo?

If he said GOD DAMN and they changed it to just DAMN then I could understand why that would offend some people and agree with them. But just the word 'damn' is far from being offensive these days especially in a franchise that is supposed to be meant for core / older games.

Truly idiot 'soccer mom' style censorship.

Oh wow.

And Nintendo wants to be taken seriously. So much so that they remove the word DAMN from this.

This is the next gen variation of when they removed "one HELL of a guy!" and changed it to "one HECK of a guy!" in the DK Rap in Melee. It was okay for N64/E rated, but when it becomes a T game, s***. None of that.

What the hell, Nintendo? Seriously?

lol Son of a female dog! Damn is the tamest curse word. Censoring it is just dumb. If Nintendo wants to break the kiddie stigma, they've got to let their franchises mature a bit. Saying "damn" in that moment was for effect, not to offend anyone and it was the only instance of a curse word in the whole game.

So I'm curious, who said Nintendo had any part in the removal? It could have been Retro Studios you know...Maybe they felt it didn't fit? It went against their original vision? Maybe Nintendo to be "taken more seriously" pushed Retro in to adding it in the first place!

Also, beyond the (extremely) slight engine upgrades to MP3 in the Trilogy, if a single word being changed is that frustrating to you, then play the original version you most likely have.

Why is cursing considered "mature"? If anything it's kinda immature, dontcha think? I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with having it in there, but to actually be upset that it's gone is kinda crazy. Removing cursing from a game has never hurt the experience, but ADDING it in for no reason definitely has a negative effect (on me at least). Look at crappy games like the new BIONIC COMMANDO. It just seems so "teenager". Rated M does NOT mean MATURE.

Stopping you for a moment, Damn is pretty tame of a curse word and seems befitting for the situation. It's not that it makes it mature which is why your argument is flawed, but more so why remove it?

After a long rapid-fire session, the gun no longer smokes.

The water no longer ripples when it its shot or jumped in (but still splashes).

No heat effect somewhere.

No ice effect on the gun.

These are the ones that I've read, and I would be more specific, but this is the first time I've played these games so.. yeah...

And it's just in the first Prime, the other 2 are fine.

And yes, texture quality is better.

Water no longer is interactive (no ripples when shot or moved through), many of Samus's gun effects were removed, such as the heat ripples after over-use, the ice-beam freezing when charged, electrical sparks no longer shoot from the Wave Beam and more.

@ArakniD

Well, I still have Metroid Prime 1, which I'm actually replaying on the GameCube, for both the added effects, and as it turns out, I prefer the GCN controls for that game (it was designed with them in mind, and I love the GCN controller). I never played 2, and sold Corruption a while back. I was hoping Trilogy would be the perfect package, but alas, it isn't. (I really do miss those title screens--they set the mood perfectly).

@Eternal Rain

It's not just the single word--it's everything: Missing effects, changed scan logs, loss of title screens, no GCN controller support for the originals.

To people who have never played the originals, these aren't that big of a deal. But to me, they are, and I want to play the games as originally intended.

@ArakniD

Kinda makes me wonder why Nintendo and other devs doesn't use the dual layered disc more often. I know Brawl used it mainly because of the music taking up so much space, but why didn't Next Level use it when they said Punch-Out!! almost didn't fit, or why didn't Retro use it when some small effects had to be dropped in favor of upping textures? That's one thing about Nintendo I DO question, why they're being tightwads to even their own devs on the dual layered dics.

@AndreGX

The lack of Gamecube controller support is a given. MP1 and 2 are New Play Control titles now, what do you expect? NPC Pikmin didn't have Cube controller support.

Eh, even though I still own the originals I'm getting this in the future anyway. Not gonna "wait for a price drop" because if MP3 ALONE is still $50 (same for TP, which really makes me go "WTF?" because that was a launch title) then this game is not dropping price anytime soon unless Nintendo FINALLY brings back Players Choice.

August 30, 2009 at 7:15 pm
@Eternal Rain

Correct me if I'm wrong, but MPT IS on a dual layered disc. They didn't drop effects in favor of textures... the gun effects were dropped because Metroid Prime 1 programmed them poorly and they didn't want to go through all the trouble of fixing them. I don't know about the water.

August 30, 2009 at 7:18 pm
@Eternal Rain

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this Trilogy is on a Dual-Layer DVD.
Otherwise, I dont think all 3 games would have fit.

But the reason those gun effects were left off of Prime 1 is because Prime 1's engine coded those effects to render on screen (similar to the fog/raindrops on the visor).

At least thats what I understand.
Prime 2 on the other hand coded those things to be rendered onto the 3D model of the gun (as they should have been in Prime 1 as most would agree).

They would have had to re-make Prime 1 using Prime 2/3's engine in order to make all the effects come to fruition I think, which is a complete waste of time and resources.

I really dont care, I'm enjoying the hell out of this pack and I am VERY grateful for it.

@AndreGX

I love Wii controls too much to even want to use the GCN controller.
I hate Dual-Analog with a passion and thats what kept me from the prime games to begin with.
Just my opinion of course.

That's kind of weird, as Trilogy also controls with a single analog-stick, plus IR for aiming.

Anyway, my point was that the game was designed with the GCN controller in mind, and imo, it feels better using it. It has a few advantages too--the analog lock-on doesn't work as well on Wii (due to lack of analog buttons) and I don't like the on-screen menu for switching visors and beams, which pulls me out of the game slightly (and is slower than a button press).

To people saying we're stupid for being mad: Nobody said they wouldn't play or buy it because of this. We just think the decision is stupid because there is no valid reason to have removed it unless they want to pretend Metroid is kid friendly. Enjoy your lies, Nintendo.

Pointless censorship is pointless no matter how you look at it.

And lol to whoever is acting like cursing is immature.

Some people honestly are just retarded it seems and just say OH MAN, CURSING IS IMMATURE.

No. Swearing excessively for no reason is immature. Saying one word in a reaction to something or in disbelief because of the magnitude of something terrible happening is not immature.

If someone yells the F word because they just had something heavy fall on their foot, it's not immature. And to portray that in film or a game is no less mature.

If anything, saying "Oh poopy!" in this situation is the immature response. Choke on that.
