Well look at that...it looks like that 'Okamiden' trademark was for Okami on the DS! We aren't sure if it's a remake or a sequel, but I'm sure more details will come in very soon. Thanks to all that sent this in!

Hey Japanese developers, the Wii is also a great cheap alternative to the expensive HD consoles. Why don't you give the system a chance!

You know....I said I wasn't excited at the thought of more Okami (cause I didn't find the first all that compelling) but.......I'm excited about this.

I guess I just love handheld gaming.

It's the opposite for me. I was excited about an Okami sequel, but now I'm a bit less so. I was hoping for the Wii. I guess I'm glad it's hitting a Nintendo platform, at least.

The Wii would've suited its artistic... ness... a lot better, in my opinion.

Oooh another must buy for me! Now this gives me a reason to buy a DSi. I want a fresh clean screen to see how beautiful this game is.

@contra

The screen on the right looks very familiar to the puzzle area where you learn the Bloom technique but that's all.

You have to consider the Japanese market.

Capcom probably looked at the Wii and the DS and deliberated which system would make the most sales.

Or perhaps a sequel was on a budget and a DS game would've come out better then a console game.

The original didn't really do that well, though th Wii version did do a bit better.

Either way, we're getting a new Okami game, I can't wait!

@Hami83

But the Wii version hasn't hit Japan yet, but I guess they choose the DS to be on the safe side.

And I think the stylus would be easier to handle. They have the look of the game down to me, so DS is a good way to go.

Well well, i'm ashamed to say Ive never play Okami before, although by the look of this one sceen the DS game looks great, and as soon as I hear the date of this game, a month or so before this game releases, I'll be buying me some Okaaaami! :D

hey guys, I was thinking... What would happen if this was DSi only/DSiWare? Thoughts?

Yeah the DS is a good console to use. It's popular among almost everyone in gaming and it's cheaper than developing on the home consoles. Oh and the stylus will do wonders for the game.

I'd bet this game probably wouldn't have existed if it wasn't a portable game.

This way Capcom can make fans happy with a sequel without worrying too much with making a risk by developing a game that hasn't been successful for them financially.

@Freddy Fro

I'd be worried about the length of the game. It would though be a great killer app for the DSi.

My thoughts exactly, I'm not entirely sure the MB limit for DSiWare, but you know how Nintendo said for special circumstances, they could posibly let the Devs a bit more space for WiiWare? Well if that's any indication for DSiWare, maybe Capcom could ask Ninty to do that for Okamidem! If there was ever a definition for "special circumstances" for making the limit larger, a sequal to Okami is it!! ;D

If they won't let Telltale games increase the size of their massive game so it doesn't suffer from framerate problems, then I doubt Nintendo will let Capcom put a full DS game on DSiWare.

To be fair, compairing a 5 part game series that's not critically aclaimed, to a sequal to a game that was contender for GOTY a few years back isn't the best comparison in the world ;D

Also, it of course wouldn't be the exact same size as a full-on DS game, but if nintendo would allow it, larger than the size of the largest DSiWare game avalible on the market, which I don't think anything is really pushing the limit as of now as far as I know. ;D

Fro~

Ps: Just want to clear up that I'm totally not bashing The Monkey Island games, I'm just saying the comparison isn't a very fair one ;D

Oh thank God yes! I told a friend, that it could be for DS, and even I didn't believe it too much, but lo and behold, it was! YES!

Awesome. Beyond awesome!

Come on, people, this makes sense. Look at the sales of the Wii compared to the DS; it's a huge difference, especially in Japan. Not only new sales, but the amount of people that own a DS worldwide is much, much larger than the amount of Wii owners (which in many cases are just casual gamers playing Wii Sports and Wii Fit and won't even look at Okami twice). This makes perfect sense; cheaper to develop, a system with a humongous and expanding market share, and controls that make perfect sense for the brush; it's a downright no-brainer.

You Wii fans want EVERYTHING; every game, every franchise, every sequel, all for the Wii. Well, I'm glad you're not getting Okamiden, because it would've sold poorly more than likely, and I bet this DS title won't be such a low seller. Day one purchase for me, and if anyone out there decides not to buy this because it's on a handheld or because it's not on Wii, well, I feel sorry for you; your loss.

The original hardly uses motion controls (as far as I can remember). WM+ will be totally lost on this game, it just doesn't need it.

Wow, you people can't feel how a great idea would be Okami on DS! While I feel that Okami is great on Wii, and it is, I think it will also be great on DS!

I mean, after being released on two home consoles, PS2 and Wii, it's time for the franchise to move a bit on handheld! And well, whoever said Okami doesn't fit on DS?! DS is also for painting. :P I'm really hoping it will do great, so that there will be even more~!

Also, WOW. Franchises that didn't have WOW sales, make great sequels. Take Another Code: R, A Journey in Lost Memories, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, and now Okamiden!

Um, no it wouldn't. It wouldn't be as responsive as you think. The touchpad on the DS would be the best solution for the brush techniques. Even on the regular Wii Remote, the brush techniques were hard to do even while pressing the Z button, so I don't see how Wii motion plus would miraculously make it better.

Considering we actually created the legend [by going back into the past] in the original, I doubt it tbh.

That definitely looks like Susano and Kushi's love child.
