September 14, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: Wii, Nintendo in general

Believe it or not, Nintendo actually updated the Nintendo Channel today! Awhile back, Japan got an updated Nintendo Channel that brought in a new design, as well as new features and better-quality streaming. Now, without any warning, the Big N has dropped that same update onto North American Wii owners. If you didn't get a message telling you that there's a new download, you can just go grab it yourself! Thanks to all that sent this in.

I think most of us knew it was coming. It was just a matter of when. Region exclusive channels I can see. Region exclusive updates to worldwide channels... Probably not.

Didn't Reggie/NoA say, when asked, that there were no plans to bring this update over? Maybe I remember wrong.

Can someone make a YouTube video? I wanna know what to expect when it hits Europe... is video streaming/choosing etc better?

@Al3xand3r

The streaming is a ton better. And the choosing is great too. It's honestly better in just about every conceivable way. I was really happy to play with it this morning. :)

I have just fallen back in love with my Wii again. -MAJOR nintendo-gasm here!!! I love the new UI its very clean, very Apple like. The new Wii Menu banner is awesome too. The way it now displays new information adds to that feel of always being connected. Even better I love the new "Nintendo Week" show. I hope to see many more episodes of that. If Nintendo can really do more stuff like that, maybe even have a Nintendo Power review show, I will say that the Nintendo Channel can turn out to be way better than that garbage they call G4TV! Nintendo, you once again, continue to amaze me! THIS is why I will ALWAYS be a Nintendo fan!

@LightyKD

BTW, why have they spent so much time on a channel that I know tons, including myself, almost never use, while we still have a horrible online/friends infrastructure?

The Nintendo Channel overhaul is much better than the last version of it. I especially love the new weekly show, which could have a lot of potential in getting the word out to people about new games.

Yes! Now Europe could use some love as well, Nintendo. Please?
