"We currently have no plans to cut the price of Wii. Current talk of price cuts is rumour and speculation. This is rumour and speculation as Nintendo have made no announcements on price. Furthermore this is most likely retailer led much in the same way retailers in the UK offer price promotions on our products." - Nintendo rep

Wow, that's a pretty strong denial if you ask me. Of course, I still don't believe the Big N when they say stuff like this. After the DS Lite incident, I'm afraid that I can't trust Nintendo's word anymore! Thanks to Bloodwalker for the heads up!

It's rumor and speculation.
This talk is rumor and speculation.

Further more, this is retailer rumor and speculation.

Of course they would say this. After all they don't want to effect September sales by saying there is a price cut coming.

I don't trust anything that comes out of Nintendo's mouth anymore. I wait until I see proof before I believe rumours or even what Nintendo says.

I hope to God that this is true. A price cut is probably the single worst decision Nintendo can make right now.

That means to expect an official price cut soon.

If the $199 Toys r' Us ad is real, I am 99.9% sure a msrp drop will happen soon. Retailers have some sweet deals time to time but they won't eat $50(minus whatever their cut is) on a popular console.

Echo, What was the Ds lite Incident?

...The DS lite incident was when up until the day it was announced Nintendo denied the existence of a DS original successor. "DS lite"

Which is why I'll never believe Nintendo on anything again.

I wouldn't be surprised if retailers did the drop the price if Nintendo don't - I guess all we can do is wait and see.

Yes there will be a price cut, but in order not to slow down current sales, we're saying no.

They aren't going to announce it earlier than they want to. Just sit back and relax. It'll happen eventually.

They denied the existence of a resdesign of the DS phat right up until the announcement of DS lite right before launch.

Yeah, like they'd admit it... >_>

I e-mailed them 2 days before SMRPG was released on VC asking if the rumors were true, and they said no.

2 days later...

Thank you :)

Also, Nintendo has mentioned from time to time that there won't be a Virtual console on the DSI in the near future, could this be some more of the same tomfoolery?

The quote is from a Nintendo Europe rep, and doesn't mention NA at all. I'm not sure where that headline came from...

I'll eat my hat if the Wii isn't $199 in America by October 1.

@Fatal Frame Fanboy

lol It'll be interesting to see the results of this little wager.

considering I seriously am still leaning towards retailer based price cuts over Nintendo based price cuts.

@King_of_Link

stubborn? really?

also, isn't the DSI still more expensive than the DS, and it's still selling like hotcakes?

if it's that serious just buy a preowned wii. Considering the many posts that were up here months ago about how people got rid of their dust collecting Wiis, i'm sure people can find one at the price that people are clamoring for.

I know, that the price will go down to $/€199 in October, retailers are already preparing the ad campaign. They don't want to hurt September sales, that is all!
