Square-Enix is tired of letting Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest do all the sales talking. They want more franchises that can bring home the bacon.
Square-Enix president Yoichi Wada has confirmed that there are 2-3 new key franchises in the works right now, and they could see release at the end of 2010, or early 2011. No word on what these games are, or what platforms they will hit. All we can tell you is that they're brand-new, and Square-Enix hopes to pull in 2 million units sold with each release. Overall, Square-Enix says they want to have 8 mega-franchises, so the 2-3 that are in the works right now are part of that strategy.

Apparently the PC version is a lot better.
Anywho, weren't Square-Enix employees 'threatened' and forced to focus on their big franchises, after The World Ends With You? I'm confused. Regardless, new franchises would be great; good new stuff is always...good

Hmm I doubt we'll see these games in this current generation if they're home console games.

Why the hell would people threaten Square because of The World Ends With You?! I can somewhat understand The Last Remnant, but why TWEWY? Didn't most people love that game? I guess Square fans and Kojima fans are the same then... they only want moar moar moar of what the company/person already makes and is too stubborn to try anything new.

One is probably Nier and they're probably also considering the new Front Mission game even though Front Mission is pretty old. Knowing Square Enix, they're not going to stop with or slow down the production of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest anytime soon.

You know there are a lot of people who want Kojima-san to work on Zone of Enders 3, a new Policenauts or even a new IP? MGS Rising and Peace Walker are going to undoubtedly amazing, but Kojima-san fans do want him to move on.

meh just like every other top developer , that's exactly what this generation is all about. The biggest budget for 360.ps3 game in the hope to get the next call of duty or devil may cry. Once they've got it well see super street fighter .

I hope so. I just don't understand why SE makes so many new IPs for the 360, when they keep failing. And the Wii can't even get a proper sequel to DQ Swords.

Well, the DSi game Dragon Quest Wars is showing promise (and it's fun too). Intelligent Systems made it, so I would imagine more Nintendo in-house/second party stuff for squenix: an Oblivion clone made by Retro, several mascot racing games by the Mario Kart team, and best of all, Super Slime Galaxy by EAD!!
And of course I'd be joking, but it already sounds like blasphemy to you guys.

Well, I LOVED THEWY...
But I can't think of any original Squeenix franchises this gen besides that which have struck a chord with me, I'm pretty OK with more FF and KH for right now, and keep pushing the new ideas out, but...I dunno, Square needs to put some passion into their original stuff, it's what made THEWY so worthwhile.
