Sounds like is going to be on 3D.. Also, like there are going to be some colouring elements like in The Blob.

I thought the artwork was cool, but this is really something stellar. I'm glad that Disney has taken Mickey and is making something this unique. It reminds me of the first time I heard about Kingdom Hearts, I was so impressed with the uniqueness of it!
Now will Marvel characters work their way into it? Hmmmm.

Man just make a new version of Castle of Illusion. You can't go wrong with a great looking art style 2D game.

with these few details...coupled with the art....this is sounding awesome!

God the name is horrible. Epic Mickey? Seriously?
The gameplay at least gives me hope, though.

"- Oswald the Rabbit runs this forgotten world

Disney did manage to regain Oswald back from Universal in 2006, which was about the time the rumors originally began right? (I have a vague memory of people saying that Warren Spector was working on a new game as far back as 2006.) Looks like a possible "Cain and Able" sort of tale. "Father always liked you more! Die younger brother!"
Phantom Blot did make a small comeback in some Mickey Mouse Works/House of Mouse cartoons about 10 years back, but I guess this game will show just how villainous he can get.
I noticed part of the retro style in the cover art for game Informer. He's got the retro red shorts, but the buttons seem to be on the back of the shorts rather than the front. I wonder if his face will look something like this if they're going really retro:

I don't think we'll ever see Iron Man meeting Mickey Mouse, even in something like this in which all sorts of Disney properties merge.
With that said, I'd totally be up to seeing Marvel characters in Kingdom Hearts or Epic Mickey.

1. I am super hyped
2. This is better than Kingdom Hearts because the characters and story actually make sense.
3. EPIC Mickey is just a Code Name, get over it
4. No one complains about concept art when it is Zelda, but many are quick to throw this aside. This is just as good if not better.
5. I can't wait…

Since I always wanted the forgotten Disney stuff to return, this is like sex to me. Horace Horsecollar came back already but STILL, seeing him will be great.
BUT PHANTOM BLOT. AND OSWALD. I STILL CAN'T GET OVER THAT.

Epic Mickey may still have a year of dev time left but I doubt Marvel characters will be added. The game obviously started development before the Marvel buyout. Kingdom hearts III, now that I can see having a world based on Marvel characters (and Sora, Donald, and Goofy getting their own themed costumes).
Getting back on topic, anyone else hoping Monstro with the Steamboat Willie wheels on his sides and Epcot on his back is still in the game? Same goes for zombie robot Goofy. Cinderella's Castle is on the cover art, as is The Haunted Mansion (and some pointed out that the third place is Small World). Animal Kingdom and MGM Studios will probably be in there too, and I'm hoping there's a level where you see evil versions of the current Disney Channel line up and kick the crap out of them (I'm joking on that last part, but honestly I bet Walt's rolling over in his grave/cryogenics chamber [lol] with all the crap that's on his channel right now).

The Monstoro thing was quite possibly the coolest concept art I've ever seen. If that isn't in the game then that would be a HUGE disappointment.
BTW: MGM Studios (actually it's Disney Hollywood Studios now since the contract ran out) is represented in the game: look at Monstoro again and you'll see the water tower and the Tower of Terror on his back.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Epcot's HORIZONS, the orignal Figment "Journey Into Imagination" ride, Tommorowland's Xtra-Terror-estrial; so many good rides/attractions that are gone now that could work in this. Heck, give us Captain EO!

Ah, I forgot the name was changed (I went to Disney World in 2002 when it was still MGM Studios and haven't kept completely up-to-date on everything [we've still got the room cards too, the ones celebrating Walt's 100th birthday]).
Animal Kingdom's gotta be in there somewhere. The Tree of Life withering as a result of Phantom Blot attacking Mickey's world would be something I'd expect to see. Heck, Pride Rock from The Lion King would do fine since it's pretty iconic.
@Venkman
Putting in Captian EO would make for a nice MJ tribute.

It'll probably work out like a better version of Okami Wii's brush controls.
@Chosenoneknuckles
Gonna have to wait for the London event on October 28th for the trailer is what I'm betting.

If Disney would have made the Beastly Kingdom when they opened the park they could have had a whole bunch of interesting creatures. Maybe the Yeti from Expedition Everest will be in there? Or the dinosaurs from Dinoland U.S.A.? Personally I think your idea of the Tree of Life withering is brilliant!

I'll definitely be checking that out once I get home. I'm REALLY looking forward to that movie.
Random thought: Since Disney now has TWO Alice in Wonderland movies under their belt (the 1950s animated movie and the upcoming Tim Burton live action film) I wonder if Kingdom Hearts III will feature an interesting hybrid world consisting of the animated characters and the live action characters coexisting. Wonderland's always been a been a very "interesting" place.
Hmm... I wonder if Alice from the days of the old Alice comidies might be in there. She's not animated (it was a series of movie featuring a live action girl with animated characters), but it'd be an interesting part of history to represent in the game since she predates even Oswald.
...well maybe we can just count her out. I think this is going to stick mostly to the theme parks and the animated universe.
EDIT: Thanks. Hopefully Warren Spector or the artists got the same idea. I won't be disappointed if it's not in there, but it would be very interesting to see an iconic piece of theme park imagery like that.

Am I the only one who always assumed that it would be more of a "typical" Warren Spector game but with a Disney setting rather than a typical comic license platformer kind of thing?
I mean when I read about the whole paintbrush, thinner and whatnot tools, I kind of imagine it like Deus Ex but instead of using different augmentations you use different tools and such.
Sure can't freaking wait until we get hard facts and videos and screenshots of this beast.

Wii releases in 2010 are pretty epic. (no pun intended)
-Epic Mickey
-Metroid Other M
-Red Steel 2
-No More Heroes 2
-Super Mario Galaxy 2
-Zelda WIi (probably)
-Sin & Punishment 2
-Monster Hunter 3 (US release)
-Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles
-Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles
and probably some more games that I can't remember. But Mario, Metroid and Zelda on the SAME year?? Just epic.

There's that paint thinner that Eurogamer was talking about. And it looks like Seven Dwarfs will be one of the forgotten cartoons
@kankki
Don't jump to conclusions with Zelda in 2010. I'm EXPECTING 2011, but if Nintendo were to have a truly amazing 2010 they would do this:
*March: Metroid: Other M
*August: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Sunshine was released this month so it's not completely strange)
*November: Legend of Zelda
But again, I'm expecting Metroid to be released in March and Galaxy 2 to come out in November despite Miyamoto saying that development is almost finished.

Darkside Chronicles is a 2010 release for Japan, everywhere else will be getting it in November this year.
@Bentendo
Odd they would be considered "forgotten" since they were from the first feature length movie Walt worked on, and they frequently made appearances in House of Mouse. Plus they did just re-release the movie on blu-ray (I also hear Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is supposed to have a Snow White world). Hmm... maybe there's something a bit deeper with them.
@Chosenoneknuckles
"Ohhh, just 6 days after my 23rd. Mint." I don't live in England so what do you mean by "Mint"? (that's probably the first time I've heard it that way).

I just read an article about the deal on Wikipedia. Apparently Disney traded Al Michaels, a sportscaster, for Oswald. Strange...
@Eternal Rain
According to Wiktionary it's slang for "very good". I'm guessing he meant that it was "mint" that his birthday was six days after the announcement? Not too sure! Urban Dictionary also says it's only used in Northern England.

Well it was Walt's first cartoon creation before Mickey. The new CEO bob Iger probably wanted to get Oswald back as a gift for the Disney family (Diane Marie Disney did state that having Oswald around again is goign to be "lots of fun"). Hmm... makes me wonder if Warren Spector somehow was involved in getting him back just so he could put him in this game. XD

It's not commonly used where I'm from (the American southeast) so thanks for clearing that up.

Ah, I read it wrong.

I'm from Kansas and I've never heard it either.
ANYWAY! Back on topic! I'm not surprised they purchased Oswald back simply because of the potential amount of money they can make on merchandise. Since Oswald is the first Disney character, there are a lot of fans who would be willing to buy anything with the character on it. I kind of view Oswald like the Game & Watch franchise (it's not the first Nintendo property, I know, but it's an early one when it comes to video game franchises): Nintendo won't make a lot of money off of it but it's always nice to revisit it once and awhile.

I gotta say, while this game has not been on my radar, AT ALL, I am liking the direction, and I really am liking what sounds like an Okami type mechanic with the paintbrush and whatnot. I do like classic Disney stuff (not the newer s**t, say, past Lion King), so I'll wait and see how this turns out.
Hopefully, they manage to give it good graphic and a really unique art style. Also, hopefully it really IS as "epic" s they're saying, because Wii could really use another exclusive, non-Mario action-adventure type game.

I don't like Pixar's movies. In trying to appeal to everyone, they just end up annoying me. Their art style isn't my favorite either, but it isn't a huge deal. I mostly take issue with the stories and formulas in Pixar movies. Ohh, here comes the obligatory sad part! Up could have been so much better...
But yeah, I do love animation. 2D animation can totally rock.

"Oswald the Rabbit runs this forgotten world"
Wow, what a cool and interesting twist. I was a little intrigued when I first hear about this but now I'm excited with the direction this is going.
I really applaud Disney for going this route because as safe as they play it with their properties, this seems pretty ballsy. It looks to have some pretty dark themes. It's like a twisted idea straight out of some fan fiction but a fresh take with respect for the legacy of the characters.
The more I think about the possibilities for this game the more excited I get.

@Eternal Rain
I did in fact, like Monster Inc., and Finding Nemo, and most especially Wall-E. Great animated films. But on the whole, I prefer traditional hand drawn 2D animation to this endless vomit stream of (mostly talking animal) 3D films. The animation industry basically did the exact same thing the video game industry did, at almost the exact same time. They saw the 3D was the "next big thing", and so they pretty much abandoned REAL 2D animation. By "real", I mean people actually draw each cell and frame by hand, putting their own personality and their own soul into the work. It comes across. Some 3D films are great, but most of them also come across as being fairly lifeless.
Kind of like a lot of modern 3D "high def" games. Sure, they may look pretty, have lots of flashy bells and whistles. But they also don't have the substance and the SPIRIT that most GOOD traditional animated films do. Look at Miyazaki's films to see what I'm talking about. Or hell, WALT DISNEY'S own classic 2D animation. The stuff those men have produced is amazing, and it has so much more life and heart and character to it than 99% of 3D animation.
Just like video games, 3D movies doesn't mean better movies. And even moreso than games, when it comes to animation, in this man's opinion, 3D does NOT add a single extra or "better" element to what you're watching. Quite the opposite in fact. The best animated works ever made are traditionally hand drawn stuff, hands down, whether it's classic Disney, Miyazaki films, Don Bluth films, you name it.
I did actually LOVE Treasure Planet, it was great, and while it did use CG, it was still a traditionally animated movie. But no, I really don't like anything Disney has made themselves, animation wise, after Lion King. Aladdin and Lion King were still top notch. But Disney has gotten so far away from what they WERE after the deaths of Walt and then Roy Disney, that it's actually pretty sickening. Now they're a corporate conglomerate, and the Disney Channel doesn't even SHOW classic Disney stuff anymore, it's all teen sit-com bulls**t. They've gone the way of MTV.
But THIS game, however, does sound interesting to me. I love old school Mickey and Co. cartoons. I grew up watching them, back when Disney Channel still had good programming. The old Disney properties are great stuff, but I hated the Kingdom Hearts games. So if this game winds up being the real deal, and is a GOOD game, I just might have to buy it. For Walt's sake, lol.
I actually agree a lot with Devil_Rising.
Most film critics would too.
Lion King and all that was the "Disney Renaissance" and whatnot.
Question: Did you like Toy Story? Maybe it's because I was born in '91, but I have a fondness for TS.
That movie was liquid awesome. Still is, actually.
But, Wall-E, Monsters Inc., TS, etc. That's not "real" Disney. That's Pixar.
I'm glad to see Old Disney revisited.
I do enjoy the KH series but after the first game, Disney pretty much stopped mattering.
