“Thinking about the [Donkey Kong Country] series you had Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong but the player never had full control over both of them at once. That was what we wanted to change. We wanted to make it so two players could play at the same time which would have been a first in series. This was vetoed by Miyamoto-san at first. He said it’s hard enough to craft a great single player game and it would be even harder to create a satisfying two-player experience. Ultimately I think it was great that we took on the challenge of two-player game.” - Nintendo’s Kensuke Tanabe

Man, that Miyamoto is always trying to keep down the Donkey Kong Country series! He may say that all that talk of him being against the series is nothing but rumor, but I think there’s some truth to it!
