As everyone predicted, it is the Wii version of Manhunt 2 that is really kicking up some concern in the political arena. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum seems to be a little upset with Manhunt 2 heading to the Wii. The PSP and PS2 versions of the game are being completely ignored due to the Wii’s true-to-life slashing and strangling motions. It appears that Mr. McCollum would have no idea about the game if it were not for…you guessed it, Jack Thompson. Mr. Thompson sent a letter to Mr. McCollum that contained the following…

Florida retailers are scheduled to sell a very violent video game called Manhunt 2 which will be available, remarkably, for “play” on the kids-friendly Nintendo Wii gaming platform. The Wii device does not utilize traditional push button game controllers but instead utilizes hand-held motion capture devices… It is a training device.

This must be a sign of me getting closer to being an old man. This stuff makes me so angry it’s ridiculous. I think protecting the children from a game like this is very honorable, but these people are missing the point. Games like this have ratings to keep children away. If parents would play an active roll in their childrens’ lives and follow these guidelines, there would be no problem. I expect things will get a lot worse as we approach the release date. I just hope Nintendo is ready for the s%$t storm.
