Ministry of Broadcast coming to Switch

A religious experience

Ministry of Broadcast is a 2D pixel-crafted cinematic platformer that follows the plight of an unnamed ginger-headed protagonist. Set in a country divided seemingly overnight by the construction of The Wall, an absurd totalitarian government known as the Regime has taken root. Separated from his family by this barricade, our protagonist must compete on, and win, The Wall Show—a mysterious reality TV show aired only in the free lands on the other side of the barrier. Participating in a government-organised contest to escape a deceptively-charming dystopia is already cause for unease, but, much to his chagrin, our ill-fortuned protagonist has also lost his only pair of boots.

Inspired by games such as Prince of Persia (1989) and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, Ministry of Broadcast revives the spirit of classic cinematic platformers where players need nimble run-and-jump reflexes as well as a healthy aversion to falling from precarious heights.

To reach freedom and family, you must lead the protagonist through each of the Arenas while under the ever-watchful mechanical eye of the Regime. The variety of hazardous, dilapidated environments hold an array of obstacles for you to manage—leg-shattering drops (scared of heights?), flaming barrels of garbage (extra-smelly, extra-flamey), inconveniently-placed spike pits (of course), hanging steel beams (so much rust)—but none of this is to speak of the fates of those you meet along the way.

Game Features:
Cinematic platformer: Run, jump, crash, and climb your way through each Arena as the narrative unfolds around you. Much of the story is unveiled via smoothly integrated animation sequences, within the environment, or from NPCs muttering bits of dialogue as you dive and dodge around them.
Environmental HUD: Rather than having a screen cluttered with overlaid indicators, HP bars, and minimaps, any information the player will need is incorporated into the environment. Hints and clues are meshed into the game’s art, subtle and specific, players will need a keen eye if they want to survive each Arena without breaking their legs.
Puzzle-solving: Use your wits, and at times a dash of ruthlessness, to advance through the Arenas. You’ll have to interact with the environment itself to solve most of the puzzles: use the protagonist’s momentum to move platforms, flip the occasional lever, and sometimes you might have to sacrifice an NPC or two to cross a particularly spiky pit.
Story and Personality: Featuring lots of impish humor, Grade A sarcasm, and comic mischief, all balanced perfectly with the dark, heavy themes presented in this dystopian world.

Awards and Nominations:
“Best Gameplay” and “Best Art” at the 2018 Game Access Conference in Brno
“Best Story”, “Most Original”, and “Best Desktop” at the 2018 Game Connection Conference in Paris
“Finalist” at the 2018 IndieCade and 2018 IndieCade Europe

Developer Spotlight:

MoB, the team behind Ministry of Broadcast, consider themselves masters of dark depravity and debonair humor. Located in the Czech Republic, this tight-knit group collaborates on the narrative, level design, and game mechanics. Individually, Sanja and Dušan Čežek spearhead the art design while Petr Škorňok and Petr Melicherík handle development.

New details on Dead by Daylight's 'Demise of the Faithful' DLC

Come all ye faithful

Dead by Daylight is making its way to Switch sometime in 2019. While we wait for that, let's get a better look at some of the content that'll be included in the game. Check out info on the Demise of the Faithful DLC below.

The new Killer of the Chapter is the Plague. Sold to a Babylonian temple as a child, she sought the means to repel the darkness she carried inside. She found solace in sacred rituals, where she felt safe and empowered. Faithful but proud, she began to rise in status and believed she was untouchable. But when a plague began to defile her body, she confronted her gods, realizing too late that they had no impact on her fate.

The new Survivor is Jane Romero. Jane was striving to become a powerful icon, a voice that would inspire and support those in need. She fought against powerful executives to send out her message about owning up your insecurities. Her goal was to release people from the painful experiences that plagued their chances at a successful future. Adding to her success was the growing pressure from the media to fit the mold, and a difficult past that weighted on her shoulders. One evening, she was driving home after a particularly stressful live show, and feeling drained, she closed her eyes for a moment that had lasting consequences.

The Demise of the Faithful Chapter includes:

1 New Killer + Perks and Power — The Plague
1 New Survivor + Perks—Jane Romero
1 New Map—The Temple of Purgation
1 Exclusive Item—Jane’s Floral Shirt only available as part of the DLC

Castle Crashers Remastered coming to Switch

Third party crashers

Castle Crashers Remastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4!

For those of you who are not familiar with Castle Crashers Remastered (CCR), here’s a quick rundown of what this version of the game has:

A multiplayer mini-game called “Back Off Barbarian” that’s frantic and weird.
Texture sizes of the game are five times the texture size of the original game
CCR runs at 60 frames per second. The original ran at 30 frames per second which feels kind of like a slideshow if you go back to it after trying this new one.
All previously released downloadable content like characters, weapons, and animal orbs are available in-game
Various performance updates and improvements to gameplay and online multiplayer

CCR on the Nintendo Switch has HD Rumble, Switch Online, and 4 player local Joy-Con support. Bring those little knights with you in handheld mode or put them up on the big screen while docked! On your PS4, we’ve utilized the latest in lighting technology to lighten up your lightbars with your character affinity color!

Both of these fine versions have been made possible thanks to the team at PlayEveryWare. It’s like magic seeing the game run on these new systems. We’re all very excited to get them into your hands!

Looks like the rumors were true, and Castle Crashers is indeed heading to Switch. Wondering why the team is remastering the original game isntead of making a sequel? The Behemoth answers that question and more in their official blog.

Thanks to Andreslop24 for the heads up!

BadLand Publishing releases a statement on the Axiom Verge situation

The other side of the story

Last week, all hell broke lose pertaining to the Axiom Verge's long-delayed retail launch on Wii U. The picture that was painted was not a pretty one for BadLand Games/Publishing, the company responsible for getting the game out there. Things only got worse when news quickly followed that Thomas Happ, developer of Axiom Verge, never received donations that BadLand had promised to send his way.

Today we get an official statement from BadLand Publishing on the matter. You can read their entire response below, and make of it what you will.

Madrid, March 19th, 2019: As a result of the latest unchecked, non-contrasted news published and related to the sale of the Axiom Verge videogame, BadLand Publishing has been immersed in a succession of news stories that, without being related to the company, are damaging its image. It is for this reason that Luis Quintans and, by allusions, BadLand Publishing want to clarify that:

Neither Badland Games nor Luis Quintans have NEVER made any kind of profit from the sale of the game Axiom Verge.

Due to the commercial situation of the company Badland Games, motivated by the impossibility of financing due to the restrictive attitude of the financial market, last October 2018, goes into bankruptcy due to lack of liquidity.

As there were not enough assets to meet the claims against the bankrupt estate, the company's registration sheet was concluded, extinguished and closed. This entailed the absorption by the creditors of any possible profit or income derived from the sales or products belonging to or generated by Badland Games.

Both Badland Games and Luis Quintans have recognized at all times the existing debt with Limited Run Games and Tom Happ Games. They have repeatedly contacted them, attempting to resolve the debt, taking the initiative to reach out-of-court payment agreements to which either no response has ever been received or which were never accepted. The only answer is the filing of a lawsuit in the United States in which no execution took place in Spain.

It is suspected that all this is part of a defamation campaign that seeks to promote third parties to the detriment of our interests, something that is evident if we take into account the suspicious closeness with the launch of the title.

Badland Publishing also has a different administrator and shareholder structure from Badland Games. Luis Quintans is just another employee at Badland Publishing.

Finally, we would like to thank the patience shown by all media who have maintained a neutral and purely informative position on the matter.

Synthesize Familiar Recipes With Incredible New Results In Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland

What's cookin?

Burlingame, Calif. – March 19, 2019 – KOEI TECMO America today revealed additional details on the core synthesis gameplay system, as well as a must-have Limited Edition version for their upcoming release; Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland.

Following the adventures of the young Lulua Frixell, Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland has players set out to uncover the mysteries of an ancient codex and the land of Arland itself. Along Lulua’s journey she will discover beautiful lands – some new and some unexplored – while others have been affected by the tides of time since Rorona, Totori, and Meruru once traveled across Arland. Throughout these diverse environments, players will find a bounty of raw materials. As they fully explore each area they will not only unlock new places to navigate, but they will have a higher chance of finding rarer resources to help Lulua in her quest to learn the ultimate truth about the mysterious kingdom of Arland.

These rare materials are used as part of the game’s Synthesis system, a fundamental part of the Atelier series which allows alchemists to create new items. In Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland players will decrypt the codex to unlock a variety of new and exciting recipes which will in turn, help them throughout their adventure. The synthesis system in this latest entry combines the Arland trilogy’s quality and trait systems; allowing for items to take on entirely new characteristics, along with the Mysterious trilogy’s elements and boost items, giving items powerful abilities that would not be previously possible. These fresh-yet-familiar systems synthesize together with the new Awaken Effect mechanic to offer a bounty of possibilities to aspiring alchemists.

When at the cauldron, players can use a raw material with the Awakened Effect ability in the mix to give the resulting item a secondary element. Combine a Fire Damage Awakened Effect material with a Thunder Bomb and the resulting item will be a bomb which releases both thunder and fire for a devastating blow. As players learn all of the synthesis system’s intricacies, they will be able to create a variety of unique and useful items to use throughout the lands of Arland and in battle.
