As of a few weeks ago, the E3 2022 digital event was still going to happen. Fast-forward to today, and it seems the event is no more.

Numerous members of the press are saying that they’ve received emails from the ESA stating that all E3 2022 digital plans have been scrapped. No reason ways given for the cancellation.

While E3 2022 might not be happening, that doesn’t mean Nintendo won’t have their own lineup of coverage around E3 time. We’ll keep tabs on the situation and bring you details on any special events Nintendo announces.

Thanks to Andreslop24 for the heads up!

UPDATE: The ESA has released a statement to IGN confirming this news. You can read their statement below.

“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.”

So… is E3 done for? Like, permanently?

This sucks, now that it's been officially announced. Even if it was digital only, cancelling and messing companies around isn't good, whatever about the fans. It takes a lot of preparation and it's expensive to book a booth. Who's to say they won't do the same thing next year? There's been so much volatility the past couple of years with COVID, which isn't over and now there's Ukraine, which could escalate further.

As long as Nintendo gives us that meaty direct in June, we'll be alright.
