As you’ve no doubt heard, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has had some incredible opening weekend success. The game pulled in over $72 million at the domestic box office for its opening, making it the most successful video game movie debut yet. Now we just get to sit back and see how high the movie will climb!

In honor of the movie’s success, Ben Schwartz, voice actor for Sonic, took to Twitter to trumpet the achievement. Turns out there’s some other accolades the movie pulled in that we didn’t even know about!

The biggest video game movie opening and the biggest domestic opening for a Paramount movie since 2014 are well worth celebrating, but the most impressive stat has to be Sonic the Hedgehog 2 making for the biggest opening in Jim Carrey’s career. Carrey has been a box office draw for decades now and has an incredible history in cinema, but seeing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 set a new record for the actor is pretty mind-boggling!

Well, now Jim Carrey can't retire. He will just have to keep playing Robotnik for the next 20 sequels and spinoffs Paramount decides to shovel out.

Well, now we know there's an avenue for Paramount to wave a big enough check in front of him to slow-walk his retirement.

Haha! He's stuck now!
