This is definitely Chris Pratt's fault somehow...

Getting excited for the Super Mario movie from Illumination? Well, we’ve got some bad news. You’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see it.

Announced via the official Nintendo of America Twitter account, the Super Mario movie has been pushed back to Spring 2023. The film will launch April 7th, 2023 in North America, and April 28th, 2023 in Japan. This message was delivered by Miyamoto himself, and you can read it in full below.

This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.

This one hurts. It's starting to get to the point where I don't want to know the launch window unless they are really really sure it will hit a certain date.

I just don't have any faith that this movie will be good.

I imagine we all saw this coming. It was supposed to launch this holiday and yet we still haven't seen a single thing about it besides the voice cast and animation studio, and well... neither of those sound promising.

This exactly.
Sony and Nintendo too afraid of Sonic 2 for Animated movie of the Year

It took a couple years but Sega finally won the console war.

You know what they say. A delayed movie is eventually good, but a bad movie is bad forever.

Looking at the movie lineup for that weekend, it wasn't a surprise. Something was going to be moved.
