Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still killing it on the sales charts, remaining in the top 10 around the world years after its release. Now with a whole slew of DLC on the way, there’s no doubt the game will continue to see major success at retail and digitally.

Of course, there are some fans who want to know when the next true installment is coming. While Reggie doesn’t have any inside tips on what’s going on, he certainly has a better idea of how Nintendo operates than the average fan. The Kinda Funny Games crew talked to Reggie for some insight on Mario Kart 9, to which he shared the following.

“When you think about a Mario Kart 9…their mentality is they want to do a great, novel experience on every platform. Mario Kart 8 really was a Wii U game that was added to for the Switch, so conceptually they’re probably working on a Mario Kart 9. They won’t release a Mario Kart 9 until they figure out what’s gonna be new, different, compelling…what’s going to move the franchise forward, because that’s what they want to do with every iteration.

Obviously they WOULD be. I'm excited to see it when it's time, but the DLC courses for 8 will do nicely in the meantime.
