The Switch is over 5 years old now, but you wouldn’t know it in terms of sales. The system is still killing it around the world, and that certainly includes the United States.

According to NPD’s Mat Piscatella, the Switch sold the most units of hardware during Q1 2022 in the U.S., while Xbox Series led hardware in total consumer spending. It’s not surprising to see the Xbox Series top Switch in terms of consumer spend, as only the Xbox Series S is $300, while the Xbox Series X is $500. Switch, in all versions, ranges from $200 to $350.

Overall, U.S. spending on video game hardware, content and accessories reached $13.9B in the quarter, a decline of 8% when compared to Q1 2021.

It would be interesting to see how the numbers would look if all things were equal, and Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft could produce hardware without all the current production restrictions.
