Bandai Namco has shared a new trailer for Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series, and it’s the kind of content we usually see made by fans and the gaming press, rather than a dev/pub themselves.

In the latest trailer, Bandai Namco directly compares Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series to the original releases of Klonoa and Klonoa 2. You’re not going to get a better side-by-side comparison of these games than a video coming straight from Bandai Namco themselves! See just how different this re-release looks compared to the originals above.

KLONOA Phantasy Reverie Series is coming to Switch on July 8th, 2022, and it includes remasters of both Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil.

The original looks better

I mean, they say “original” but they should have used the PS1 version rather than the Wii Remake for a comparison - because rather bizarrely, the Wii version actually looks far more detailed than this HD remake.

HD is lovely - but colours have a very blocky/basic approach - the model was also better on the Wii remake as well.

Even the stylised comic book effect for the second PS2 game is more attractive.

I actually thought all they were doing here was remastering the Wii version and PS2 game into HD, now I know that’s not the case I actually find myself wanting this much less.

All that matter is how it plays.

IMO I never liked the harsh shadows the 5th generation of game consoles. I know people like that moody and "serious" vibe, but I don't know, it just looks to have more visual clarity in the smaller details.
