Japanese software/hardware sales for June 6th to June 12th, 2022 (Switch reaches 25 million units sold)

Wondering how the Switch held up in Japan this week? Switch titles made up 9 of the top 10 best selling software. Nintendo Switch Sports has finally been overtaken, being bumped down to third, with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles and Mario Strikers: Battle League debuting in first and second place respectively. Kirby and the Forgotten Land holds onto forth, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe comes in fifth.

As for hardware, the Switch maintained its top spot with the standard model, selling 33,166 additional units. This is followed by the Switch OLED in second (14,767), with the Switch Lite in forth (10,503), surpassed only by Sony’s PlayStation 5. Adding the total number of units sold since their launch, the Nintendo Switch family of systems has now surpassed 25 million in Japan, and that’s just for one region! To put that into perspective, the Wii U sold only 13.56 million units worldwide in its lifetime.

25 million is quite a milestone. You can see Switch sales are slowly tailing off.

I wouldn't compare it to the Wii U though, that was dead at birth due to a myriad of reasons and Nintendo didn't fully support it.

That's an impressive debut for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles on Switch. 3rd party games don't usually sell that well. I read that it's an anime and manga. Don't know anything else really about it other than it's a port(originally released in October 2021), a very good one, given that the weaker specs of the Switch are often a hindrance and that it's an action game.
